Depends. If we're talking about singing/playing, House of Gold was the first song I learned on ukulele. The Forest's chords are really fun. The Judge is fun to sing, because "set me freeEEEee". Tear in my Heart has fun chords and the "hey, hey, hey!" Is funny to sing. Doubt, Screen, Migraine, and Polarize mean a lot to me. Idk. It's hard to choose!!

Same!

@Masterkey

Yeah, every time a song of theirs comes on I'm like "Oh it's my favorite one!" and then the next one starts playing and I go "wait a second… this one's my favorite." And on goes the cycle.

@ThatBackgroundSlytherin

I think instead of favorites we should list them by the ones that mean the most to us, that's kinda what I did. (I love the feeling of rapping an entire verse correctly. So satisfying.) :)

@Masterkey

I love that song, because it seems like he's all depressed and staying in his dark room with his shades down just wanting to disappear, and then his friend busts in like "NOT TODAY IMMA OPEN UP THESE WINDOWS STOP FEELING SORRY FOR YOURSELF AND LOOK OUTSIDE FOR ONCE." At least that's how I see it. Sometimes I need that kind of friend XD

Hey… we should tell each other what we think the meanings of each of our favorite TOP songs are!

@ThatBackgroundSlytherin

OH!!! I FORGOT ABOUT HOLDING ONTO YOU!!! I LOOOOOOOOOOOOVVVVEEEE THAT ONE!!!
Okay, so I think it's pretty obvious maybe what Fake You Out is about. He's talking about hiding his anxiety and depression from everyone, hence the name, because when he tells people they say they understand but they really don't. He also talked about kids who kill themselves because they feel they have no control over their lives. I guess that's the part that really hits home with me.
How bout you guys? (sorry that was long.)

@Masterkey

Yeah I agree with that interpretation of Fake You Out. An that wasn't long, THIS is long:

Tyler and Josh have said they are Christians (so am I), and I see it in a lot of their songs, like March to the Sea and Taxi Cab. Mach to the Sea seems like a song about going through life, following the crowd, feeling like there's no meaning to anything and knowing you're just gonna march in the same old line to the beach and off the peer and into the sea when you die. It's a life of order and no freedom or choice. Then God calls from inside your head and says "follow me instead," not the silly crowd that puts value in worthless things. He can make your life actually mean something, he can rescue you from just walking off into the sea, and he lets you march another day.

Then with taxi cab, the symbolism is EVERYWHERE, I'd be typing for too long. XD

Oh Ms Believer reminds me of God walking with one of his children, a girl who is a "believer" but has trouble trusting in him. But he walks with her no matter if she thinks he's always there or not, no matter if she asks for his help. But he wants her to call out to him. I feel like it's God singing to her, and he just wants to tell her that he loves her but she isn't listening.

Friend, Please is just so good because it follows the theme of Not Today. A friend who feels for you and understands your suffering, but knows that you CAN survive and it's NOT over, no matter WHAT you think. And it's so heartfelt and beautiful because the singer doesn't want the person to take their life away from them.

Then Air Catcher is such an interesting tune and so fun to sing, plus I used to think it had a super dark meaning but I don't anymore. I honestly think it's as simple as him saying he doesn't want to fall in love but he can't help it. XD He's scared to open up to someone he loves since he doesn't want to get hurt, but she stole his breath and he's falling and he's not sure if he wants his breath back anyway. Like "FINE I ADMIT YOU'D BEAT THE MOON IN A PRETTY CONTEST BUT BUT I'M NOT GONNA FALL IN LOVE WITH FALLING IN LOVE PSHHHH nevermind I failed I'm in love."

So there's my two cents.

@WriteOutofTime

for me Doubt is about the anxiety and uncertainty surrounding his religion. he's talking about how meaningless parts of Christianity seem to be, and how he's starting to doubt it. "someone holy insisted" is like the part that resonates most with me. i'd explain but I don't feel like getting all angst-y today. 2016 me yelled that lyric at the top of my lungs though lol

@Masterkey

But at the same time, he tells God he's no good without him, that he's doubting God but he still needs him and doesn't want him to forget about him. It's a song that's brutally honest, and it doesn't have to have a happy ending. I see that in a lot of Psalms, too. Like Psalm 88:

1 Lord, you are the God who saves me;
day and night I cry out to you.
2 May my prayer come before you;
turn your ear to my cry.

3 I am overwhelmed with troubles
and my life draws near to death.
4 I am counted among those who go down to the pit;
I am like one without strength.
5 I am set apart with the dead,
like the slain who lie in the grave,
whom you remember no more,
who are cut off from your care.

6 You have put me in the lowest pit,
in the darkest depths.
7 Your wrath lies heavily on me;
you have overwhelmed me with all your waves.[d]
8 You have taken from me my closest friends
and have made me repulsive to them.
I am confined and cannot escape;
9 my eyes are dim with grief.

I call to you, Lord, every day;
I spread out my hands to you.
10 Do you show your wonders to the dead?
Do their spirits rise up and praise you?
11 Is your love declared in the grave,
your faithfulness in Destruction[e]?
12 Are your wonders known in the place of darkness,
or your righteous deeds in the land of oblivion?

13 But I cry to you for help, Lord;
in the morning my prayer comes before you.
14 Why, Lord, do you reject me
and hide your face from me?

15 From my youth I have suffered and been close to death;
I have borne your terrors and am in despair.
16 Your wrath has swept over me;
your terrors have destroyed me.
17 All day long they surround me like a flood;
they have completely engulfed me.
18 You have taken from me friend and neighbor—
darkness is my closest friend.

This does NOT end happy. I think God wants us to cry out to him with all of our feelings, blaming him, everything we feel.

Beautiful. Thank you for that. (It's also really fun to do the "Don't forget abouwowowowot me part.)
