I don't know how to do this

There should be a share icon near the top right corner of the character's profile, and then when you click on it, there should be a switch that has "private" or "public" options.

@Masterkey is correct. For the record though, all characters (and all other pages, too) are private by default, and only visible to you. They are only ever public if you take the above action and explicitly mark them public.
