Hm… I haven't read the Illiad or the Odyssey recently, but I believe that Odysseus is both a hero and someone who is not. He has committed both bad and good deeds.

He slept with plenty of women, but wanted to get back home to his wife and child.

True that. That was his most stupid move. But to be fair, he was blinded by rage because of the death of his friends.
