Stepping towards her he smiled a bit,
"Friendly"
He says looking down at her hand, then shaking it. He didn't quite care much….he hated the fact that he was even here……
"So," she said, turning to sit down and then motioning for him to do the same. "What are your skills? Don't worry, I won't ask for your weaknesses. That would be a bit too early, wouldn't it? What did you do in your former life, jobs and such? Hobbies maybe?"
"I'm an orphan….got kicked out because no one wanted to somend momey on me. I lived in a basement trying to survive…..skills? I'm not afraid to kill anyone in my path of surviving."
He saya to her with a cold scoression.
"Ok, we can work with that. My skills… I'm very good at swimming, I'm good with a fishing rod if that helps, uhh… I'm determined? I'll work on my knife skills and such of course. Bow and arrow would be useful. And since we are sharing our life stories, I lived with my mom as I have no clue who my dad is in a town near the water." There was one thing she didn't add, singing. Her whole life she had always sung when she was alone, and she was quite the vocalist now. She didn't think it would help her in a survival situation, so she kept her singing to herself.
She thought a bit more about what she wanted to know about Seong-Jin until she hit a big question. "What is your plan for weapons? How do you fight?"
Since we have wings, a disadvantage for the others, a now and arrows will be good. Daggers, I'm good with long swords, and…..I'm pretty good with my bare hands."
He says laying down on the bed, shutting his eyes, only to open one, giving her a sideglance.
"Maybe you can teach me more about how to handle weapons and blades. I've never really dealt with them as I had no use for them, but I do know the basics of fighting without weapons and self-defense. Mom made sure of that."
She sighed and wrapped her wings around her arms.
"Maybe….when are we even supposed to go get our weapons?"
He asks, his left-wing falling to the side of the bed, looking as if it was broken, which it wasn't.
"I don't know. I think we are supposed to train with all of them, but then the weapons we actually get in the arena are up to luck and skill. Hopefully, luck is on our side."
Zuri was tempted to let him in completely, but he was being defensive it seemed and who knows what actually might happen in the arena. She needed to be guarded to some extent with everyone. Doesn't mean she wouldn't try to pry.
"Are your wings in good shape? We will want them as up to shape as possible before… you know what."
Standing up, only able to spread them halfway out due to the space they had, they were about 3-4 times his arm span when they were fully spread, beautiful and almost purely white, full of feathers.
"You tell me"
He says crossing his arms. He honestly didn't care if he was showing off, he didn't care about anything at the moment.
Zuri only let herself stare for a millisecond before reprimanding herself for showing such foolishness.
"Good, good. Mine are a bit smaller, but I feel like that helps with agility and swimming. Bigger wings would mean you can probably glide for longer and create bigger winds."
She also spread her wings out, and they were smaller but almost equally as beautiful. She takes good care of her wings, preening them and such. For added effect, she gave a little flap and then settled them on her back again.
"Have you ever gone swimming?" She asked. She knew Air elements weren't exactly supposed to love the water, but she loved the feeling of spreading her wings out and gliding just above the sands. It also gave her extra speed when she flapped them as she would when flying in the sky.
"Yes….but I don't enjoy it at all"
He says flapping his wings a bit, making the dust from the room rise, then pressing them against his back.
The only time he went "swimming" was when he was escaping death. So he didn't particularly enjoy it.
"That's too bad, I love it so much. I've gotten very good at holding my breath underwater. I guess that's another one of my skills."
She lay down and closed her eyes. She knew she wasn't going to get much conversation, so she gave up on him.
"Interesting…..im good at making traps too…."
He says hoping that's useful.
"Did you have any friends before this?"
He says looking at her, noticing she laid down
"Traps are useful, so another skill I should also learn." She opened one eye to look at Seong-Jin and then closed it again. "I mean, yeah. They were the only people I was close to besides my mother of course. Man, I love that woman. We would go to the lake every day, but I was the only one to swim. The other girls would bask in the sun or play in the sand. Not that I didn't love some good sun after a swim."
She almost reprimanded herself for letting that information go, but it felt good to go through her head of all the memories she had with her friends. She could almost feel the sun on her arms and face as it tanned her slowly. It couldn't hurt to let him know about her friends that he will most likely never meet.
Kind of interested while she talked, he listened intently as she rambled off, even letting a smile curve up his lips. He missed having friends….or anyone for that matter. He found himself a little jealous, but he was happy for her.
"That's nice….."
He says sitting on his bed, his arms resting on his knees as he listened to her.
Zuri opened one eye again to gauge his reaction and saw the smile creeping up his face. She wasn't sure whether that was bad or good, but life was a game of judging people's reactions.
"You don't smile much, do you?"
She flipped on her stomach and propped her head up with her hands, feet in the air.
"What about you? You must know someone you are close to. Someone… you find yourself wanting to talk to. Someone… you trust."
His smile fading as she said that.
"No i don't smile allot. I don't have anything to smile about. Everyone's left me, thrown me out like a piece of garbage. I have absolutely no one."
He says totally serious, looking down at the ground, his white eyelashes covering up his vision as his eyes closes halfway. He didn't have much energy today.
"Well have you searched? No one is going to find you if you don't try to be found." She said. She knew the sting of rejection, and then she found some medicine for it. If he knew what was best for him he wouldn't let it get infected. Her momentary warmth from the thought of her family vanished and she retreated into the icy fortress inside her. She was about to go inside when something stopped her at the threshold.
Looking up at her with his piercing blue eyes,
"Know what you're talking about before you spout advice to people, you know nothing about. Got it?"
He snapped at her. She had no idea about who he was and what he's been through. Does she think he hasn't tried? Does she think he just gave up on finding anyone?
"Now don't be stupid"
He says in a calmer, still rude though.
"I'm being stupid?" Zuri says. Her hands push herself to a sitting position and her eyes fly wide open, chilling and cold. The barrier is broken and she goes deep into the fortress.
"I know what it's like to be abandoned! I know what it's like to be rejected! Where did you think my father went? He left because he wanted nothing to do with my mother or me. After that did you think I just slid in with society as nothing happened? Do you think my mother did the same? No!"
She sighs and lets herself fall back again. She was too tired for a full argument. Plus, she didn't know everything about his past life. She was just trying to help, even though she knew she wasn't a very helpful person. She put in her wings in front of her face and started running her fingers through the soft feathers.
Standing up, over her bed now,
"I don't know about your life or your past….but that's why I didn't try to give you advice. Yes, it's idiotic to give someone advice without knowing the context."
He says, his blue eyes glaring daggers at her. He's never one to argue, nor did he like it. Especially with her….her loud annoying voice gave him a headache.
"Hmph."
She was so done with this. She stood up, continued to cover-up her face with her wings, and walked out. She stepped out into a hallway and didn't know where to go, so she found the closest room and walked in. It was a small, empty room, that looked like it might have been used as a large closet or small storage area. She stepped in and did what she enjoyed most. She sang. Her voice was clear and strong, but she tried to sing a bit quietly in case someone heard her. She sang until she forgot what she was doing in that room. She sang until she ran out of songs. Then she sang some more. Her voice became hoarse so she hummed, and then silence. She basked in the silence and sat there, picturing her dreams and daydreamed of silly things.
He followed her, watching her as she slipped into a room.
Sitting there on the floor about five feet away from the door, against the wall. Her voice was amazing….. As it got quieter and quieter he got to tired to stay awake. Standing up and slinking back to their room, he laid down on the bed, but not falling asleep. Not until she came back.
Zuri was sure he must have been asleep by then, and it was kind of uncomfortable in the storage room. She decided a blanket was better than just her wings, so she snuck back to the room. She maneuvered the door so it wouldn't squeak, and slipped in. There was a blanket on the chair she was sitting on so she quickly sat down and didn't bother to look for Seong-Jin. She wrapped herself in the blanket and tried to get comfortable in the chair, curling up into a ball of warmth.
(Are they in the same room?)
