"No, it's fine, My family aside from my sister, unfortunately, died because of one of the swarm attacks…" James said, his voice becoming quieter and quieter before becoming silent.
He clenched his fists as he spoke once more.
"That's why I joined, to obliterate those insects and crush those who try to stop me in doing so." He silently let out a few tears before clearing his throat and smiling.
"Well that was a long time ago, it's best to think of the present and future and since life is finite, enjoy it be it by yourself or, with others."
I never had a chance nor time to relax, maybe now I do…
(What do you think the genres of the roleplay story? I think it slight went of the path I was hoping it to be but it still has some elements to it.)
”I’m sorry for your loss.” Liz managed to say after a long moment. She had known people who had been killed or lost someone thanks to those parasites but she considered herself one of the lucky ones since her family was still intact. ”I wanted to help protect people when I signed up but you're right about thinking ahead and enjoying the now.”
(I think the genres still fit. What path were you planing originally?)
"Either way, Lets worry about what has happened right now." James said in a low tone as he stopped and grabbed something from the water.
What is this?
The object had some kind of strange runes, similar to arabic ones but then it changes to hieroglyphs. It seemed to be made out of unknown metal as well and was covered in a beautiful design.
"Can you read what this says?" He said but immediately became embarrassed after realising the stupidity of the question.
He proceeded to give the object to Liz.
(Sorry, been seriously busy with editing a thesis a friend asked me to do and trying to get into the "school mood.")
”Yes sir, Commander.” Liz smirked, half tempted to salute in a joking attempt to cheer James back up when he handed her the object.
”It’s beautiful but no I can't read this.” She noted. ”It could be native to this planet. I think we should have linguistics look at it.”
(Totally understand with school starting. What a pain for everyone.)
"I suppose, yes…"
James, pocketed that object in his pockets before looking around once again. Just then, a bright light appeared, blinding everything and everyone in its surroundings.
The only thing he heard, was the sound of a laugh before he once again, fell unconscious.
"Commander Crawford, are you alright?" A voice sounded in his ears as he groaned.
The light came through his eyes and, all he could see was multiple beds and all of them filled up. He then looked beside him and saw Liz.
"Liz?" He called out to the other bed.
”Who spiked my coffee?” Liz moaned, rubbing her forehead to alleviate a headache. ”James? How did we get back? I remember a flash… And I think someone laughed…” she slowly sat up and looked around the room. ”What happened to everyone?”
Blake, walked in.
"Aside from about five or so men and women, all of them have been injured by what the other natives call, The Darkness Empire."
He then stopped, letting the information settle in.
"We have a huge advantage but the casualties were apparently caused by magic. That is what Doctor Sharon, and the Azure Rose call them.
Ok, one thing for certain; this Darkness Empire is hostile. Liz looked at the Captain in confusion. ”Forgive me, sir, but my ears must still be ringing. Magic? And if I may ask who or what is the Azure Rose?” she asked trying to be respectful.
Blake sighed, a solemn look in his eyes.
"We found out that fiction and fantasy creatures aren't the only thing that we on earth had believed to be false. Magic, is also real."
Blake raised his hand and sure enough, a powerful wind swept the area as a ball, appearing to be the same size as a basketball, formed upon Blake's hand.
"Multiple people have awakened powers like these but only a few were unconscious for more than a few minutes. The Azure Rose say that the longer the person is unconscious, the more powerful the ability." Blake let the mana in his hand dissipate as he continued to talk.
"Going to your other question, the Azure Rose are a- well was a kingdom that unfortunately was destroyed. Their Elves by the way…
Anyway, we met them on scouting missions as they were being chased by the empire. We destroyed the enemy troops quite quickly and rescued them and from then, we have started a hopefully kind relationship. "
James, slightly smirked after seeing his face but didn't say anything.
Truly like a disney story, looks like their princess goes to your liking…
Liz stared, slack-jawed at the Captain's demonstration. If anyone breaks into a song right now, I’m just gonna knock myself back out. she took a deep breath as she tried to reorganize her thoughts. So we’re allies with a race of space Elves who are in a losing war and our Captain is an Airbender. … Wow, I'm a dork. She chuckled before one of his comments stuck in her head. ”How long where we unconscious? It only felt like a few minutes but for us to get attacked and form a new alliance…” she trailed off more in fear than the possibility of being considered ”magically powerful”.
"It has been, about i'd say, three weeks." Blake responded calmly.
"So, you have a high chance to have a legendary power. " He then stopped noticing James look then, coughing embarrassingly, started to quickly leave.
James chuckled at Blake's antics before proceeding to get out. Much at the dismay and resistance of the nurses around him.
”Three… ” Liz could barely wrap her head around this. I've been in a coma for a whole month!?!? It didn't feel like it was more than a few minutes. I feel fine now at least but I think I'd take dealing with a dragon over all of this new insanity. she sighed, not knowing what else to do. When she noticed James stand up, she followed him.
God, this hurts!
James groaned in pain as he unsteadily pushed his way through the barrage of nurses and doctors, his mind slipping away as he started to become overcome with killing intent.
Soon, he froze, his pupils turning pure black with a hint of glowing blue. His hands unclenched themselves as a black aura started to cover them.
"Help!" His last bit of sanity called to him, as he beggingly called for help, soon enough though, his face contoured in pain and tears left his eyes.
"Sorry I-" James growled as if he was a feral creature.
”James!!” Liz nearly panicked when she saw the black… Power cover his hands. ”James, calm down. What’s wrong?” She asked with a trembling voice. Her head started to hurt as a strong wind formed around her and raced through the room.
"Stay away!" James growled as he cocooned himself in a bundle of threads. Yet, those threads seemed to be a crack in space.
For hours then, only the sounds of growls and groans of pain came, almost as if he was dying.
Liz jumped back at the sound as he disappeared. ”Is there anyone here who can explain what is happening?” she nearly screamed, the wind around amplifying her voice. She took a few calming breaths trying to and control the pressure in her head. ”I’m not leaving until someone can tell us how this magic works.”
Suddenly, the cocoon dissipated as the overbearing pressure in the medical infirmary gradually faded away.
After a few minutes, the heavy breathing returned to normal as James forced himself to get up.
"Is everyone ok?" He asked tiredly before slowly walking away from the disaster he had caused.
"Lieutenant Li- Elizabeth, Go back to work or ask someone else" His voice coldly etching itself into the minds of everyone around him.
God, what is happening?!
Liz was stunned by his harsh tone and the wind around them suddenly stilled. ”James, what’s wrong with you? You just disappeared into a black cocoon and it sounded like you were dying in there. Excuse me, but” I’m worried about you. ”I think you… we both need answers. So if no one on the ship can help, I am going to find someone from the Azure Rose. They apparently live with this kind of thing so they should be able to explain.” she stated stubbornly.
James froze, then shuddered before coldly continuing down the hallway.
*James what ar- Ignore her JAMES…" He clenched his fists tightly as his mind kept being filled with all kinds of voices.
"Shut the f'ck up" James roared angrily as he broke his former calm and gentle attitude into a great fit. Punching out, black threads appeared wrapping themselves to the side of the hallway and completely and utterly decimating them.
James then hurried down the hallway and into his room before falling onto the ground with his hands shaking.
"What is happening to me?"
HOLY $h!+!!! That does it! I need to tell the Captain. Liz didn't take long to see the damage he had just caused. She sprinted down the corridors for Captain Blake's office. James needed help! It took a little while but she finally reached the door. She was so concerned about James that she didn't notice the decent-sized dent she made as she banged her fist against it. ”Captain!! I need to speak with you! It's very urgent!! I think something’s wrong with Ja-… uh Commander Crawford.”
Blake looked through the documents before sending a smile to the princess.
"Well, Shannelle, it looks like we need to start moving our forces through the sea as well for a ri-" Just then, a banging sound came through and he frowned.
But that quickly changed as he heard what the person at the door had to say.
"Forgive me, princess." After saying that, he opened the door and rushed outside.
"Speak Lieutenant, what has happened to Commander Crawford?!"
”I don't know exactly but I believe it has to do with his magic, sir.” Liz started with a wide-eyed expression as she was nearly terrified for James. ”He somehow surrounded himself in a black cocoon for hours where he sounded like he was in a lot of pain. Once it vanished he left the med bay very angry. When I asked him what was wrong, he lashed out and destroyed the hall with these black threads that just appeared.” she explained trying to keep her composure despite her head feeling like it was going to explode.
