Winter groaned.
“Great. Now Elias is the insensitive one. I’ll beat him later. Take me to her. I don’t know what I’ll be able to do, but I’ll do my best to help.”
Winter groaned.
“Great. Now Elias is the insensitive one. I’ll beat him later. Take me to her. I don’t know what I’ll be able to do, but I’ll do my best to help.”
Estelle nodded and took Winter's hands as she led her. "She asked for you. Well, I asked her if she wanted you, and she nodded. That's as good as I could get."
Shiloh was sitting on the edge of a seat in the ship's "common area." Since both women had an affinity for the color blue, they decorated their ship accordingly. The Twi'lek was currently surrounded with a hue the same color as her skin tone thanks to the light reflecting off of their blue furniture. She had stopped crying, but her expression was still broken. Her golden eyes turned to the door as her wife returned with Winter.
As soon as Winter made eye contact with Shiloh she took off her cape and ceremonial armor, and went over and embraced her in a hug.
“Hey. What’s going on? You’ve been crying. Why the tears? Did Elias say something to hurt you? If he did I swear I will kill him myself.”
Elias worried. He wondered what he had shared about Hiro earlier had brought something back from the past. He watched Frost closely and maintained his composure. He spoke softly.
“Hey bud. I have an idea. While we wait for Ama, why don’t we play a game? Like General or something? You can pretend to be the General of a ship and me and Hiro are your Lieutenants. How does that sound?”
Frost’s eyes widened and he threw his little fists up in the air.
“YEAH!”
Elias managed a small laugh as he watched his son scramble off the bed and stand regally in the center of the room. Frost knew he was the center of attention and he adored it.
“Lieutenants Ada and Hiro. We have a mission. We got to protect that box.”
Elias’ eyes trailed over to the box Winter had said not to touch, and chuckled. He stood up and gave a mock salute.
“General Frost. I deeply agree. What are your orders?”
Hiro stood too. “At your service frost sir!” hiro said playfully, only hoping he wouldn't be using his saber. He knew how frost was
Frost giggled and regained his composure.
“Ada and Hiro. Your job is to guard the box. No enemy can get to it. As a test, I’m going to try to grab the box.”
Elias put his hands on his hips.
“Now General Frost. That seems like an interesting idea. Using yourself as a test dummy? I have to say that’s very bold.”
Frost crossed his arms.
“Ada, do you have any better ideas?”
Elias looked over at Hiro, with the look of a parent who had been outplayed by a child.
“No General Frost. I do not have a better idea. Carry on. Let’s do your plan and let you do your practice runs.”
Elias whispered to Hiro while Frost was preparing his little sneak attack.
“I love my son dearly. But he’s too smart. He also hits like a bag of rocks. I want to say he got that from me, but he definitely got that from his mother. Be prepared for a wild ride. And sore muscles. But that’ll hit later.”
Hiro nodded “I have a plan.” he said, force-guarding the box first.
Elias squared up mockingly against his son.
“Alright Hiro. Let’s see what you got against this little space friend.”
Hiro chuckled “ come on captain! Give me your best shot,”
Frost cackled and ran full force towards Hiro.
"You better be ready Hiro! I am unstoppable!"
Hiro chuckled, he crouched down and just as frost had reached him, the little boy bounced off an invisible force
Shiloh clung tightly to Winter in return, feeling tears beginning to form in her eyes yet again. Gods, she was pathetic… But her eyes met Estelle's, and her wife's look was so concerned and compassionate that any negative thought Shiloh had went out the window.
"No," the Twi'lek whispered hoarsely. Her throat was still a bit sore from her earlier sobs. "He didn't. Not on purpose." She swallowed heavily and drew back to look into Winter's eyes. "It was only what he mentioned. Hiro's dream. And we're heading to Coruscant, and I'm about to see Kyla again after how many years. It just got the better of me, that's all."
(I swear, I keep changing her sister's name. All I can remember is that it starts with a "K" 😂)
Frost shook his head when he hit the invisible barrier. He laughed.
“Nice one. I’m gonna get through it.”
Frost went back and started running towards the barrier again.
Winter stepped back, and her arms rested on Shiloh’s forearms.
“I completely understand. It’s a rush of emotions, and you don’t know how to feel so all you can do is cry. Believe me, I’ve been there. Just before I got dressed I had a rush of anxiety. I get it every time. People taking pictures. Whispers. Comments. People angry at me and Elias for no reason. It’s all so much. I get overwhelmed.”
Winter stepped back and ran her hands through her hair. She went back over to the table where she had set her armor and her cape down.
“Now. You two must get ready. We’re landing in 15 minutes. Would you like for me to stay and help?”
Hiro kept the shield up, a smirk on his face. “Come on captain!”
Frost ran forward as if he was going to hit the shield. At the last second he turned and charged right at Hiro. And Force pushed him.
Squeals of laughter erupted from Frost as he started tickling Hiro.
“Tickle attack!”
Elias started to laugh at the antics of his son.
Hiro laughed hard, his saber falling off of his belt
Elias watched as the saber fell, and he reached out with the force to prevent it from hitting the floor.
“Careful bud. You don’t want this to accidentally ignite. Especially not with that friend running around.”
Hiro chuckled, “thanks old man,” he teased
Elias groaned.
“Again with the old man. I’m only 28… Win calls me that on a daily basis. But no problem. Just imagine if that little booger gets ahold of a saber and decides to just go wild with it. That’s why his saber, in this very special box that we are supposedly protecting, is just a beam of light that can deflect some blaster bolts. It’s a kid’s training saber. Because stars forbid Frost gets an unrestricted version. Senators would be losing limbs.”
“Plus.. I'd rather not light up my blade. It's.. Special you could say and if rather not be pestered about it,”
Winter stepped back, and her arms rested on Shiloh’s forearms.
“I completely understand. It’s a rush of emotions, and you don’t know how to feel so all you can do is cry. Believe me, I’ve been there. Just before I got dressed I had a rush of anxiety. “Now. You two must get ready. We’re landing in 15 minutes. Would you like for me to stay and help?”
Estelle frowned at Winter's remarks and placed a gentle hand on her sister's shoulder. "Win, why haven't you said anything? I could try to help you, you know."
Shiloh offered a small smile at her sister-in-law. "Thank you, Winter. We should be fine."
Elias floated Hiro’s saber back to him.
“Understandable. Our saber colors aren’t the typical blue and green either. Ours are orange. Because the Tano woman was like wow you guys are kind of thrifty, and the orange saber denotes ambition, creativity, and resourcefulness. And we met that criteria because we survived and thrived and went with it. It was also because the crystals we got on Ilum turned orange when we found them. Ilum was a nice planet. Reminded me of home.”
Winter grabbed Estelle’s hand and held it tight.
“I know, I know. I’m better now, but it’s not easy. The ridiculousness of it all is insane. Being a senator isn’t for the faint of heart. I don’t know how Leia or anyone else does it. Elias and I aren’t even important senators and we get slammed with so many things. It’s maddening. I’m just glad I have family that help me through this. I couldn’t have asked for more. Now I’m going to leave so you two can get dressed. But not after another hug.”
Winter hugged Shiloh and Estelle. And put her breast plate and leg armor back on. She picked up her cape and put it back on.
“I’ll see you guys in 15 minutes. I know you two are going to make senators both male and female weak in the knees. You just have that effect on Coruscant. Knock ‘em dead girls!”
“Yeah..” he chuckled weakly “well.. Mines black,” he whispered, his eyes lowering to the ground.
Elias shrugged.
“I mean that tracks. Your Mando’a. They possess the dark saber. A black light saber isn’t typical, but considering the history you have, I can guess that blade wasn’t always black. The Crystal bled after the tragedy of you losing you family, and it changed color to match your grief. I doubt it’ll change back, but it’s interesting.”
Winter walked back through the airlock and started to walk back towards the room where she had left they boys. She knocked on the door.
“I’m back. We can open the box now. Frost would you like to do the honors?”
Frost scrambled to the bed and hopped on top of it. Winter leaned forward and put the code in. The box unlocked with a faint hiss. Frost gently lifted the latch, and inside the box, were three sabers. The hilts were very decorated. A deep blue inlaid with silver and sleek. In the best sense, it matched the idea of Hoth.
Winter picked up Frost’s and handed it to him. He took it delicately and gently put it in his belt.
Winter picked up Elias’ and tossed it to him. He chuckled and put it in his belt. Winter looked over hers and slid it into her belt. Elias looked at her.
“What’s our eta for landing?”
Winter pushed her hair behind her ears.
“Well, as far as the Navi computer says, we have fifteen minutes or less before we land on our spot on Coruscant. And then we deal with the Coruscant paparazzi and people who are just dying to see us.”
Hero nodded “ no, it wasn't always black, it was blue, like my mother's eyes.” he said softly “ almost a deep and rich navy blue..”
Winter smiled softly at Hiro.
“If your mother was anything like you, she was an amazing person. And who knows? Maybe you’ll fully heal one day and the saber will turn blue again.”
Elias looked over at Hiro.
“Until then, a black saber is pretty cool. Anyways, we’re going to have to head up to the cockpit and start our landing protocol. Would you like to get your very first bird’s eye view of Coruscant?”
