"Oh," Celeste responds. I forgot about the plague.
Celeste gives him a puzzled look, "Why would you get a blood sample from a lunar?"
"Oh," Celeste responds. I forgot about the plague.
Celeste gives him a puzzled look, "Why would you get a blood sample from a lunar?"
wait, i don't remember. has it been found out that the plague came from lunars?//
(Letumosis originated on Luna, but Lunars are immune to it. It is later revealed - spoilers - that Levana had the disease created in order to "bring humanity to its knees.")
(NOT going from before).
Celeste sits in her room, thinking about what kind of outfit she should make out of the fabric she got. Maybe a… no not that. Ooo! Maybe a dr- no not that either. She puts her hands on her head and sighs. She looks around. Maybe I need an opinion. She gets up and walks out of her room. But who?
Celeste passes by a maid. She keeps on walking but then stops. Turning around she yells wait. The maid stops.
"Yes?" She says sweetly.
"Do you have an idea of what I could make out of some fabric?" Celeste asks.
The maid opens her mouth for a moment and then closes it.
A second later she answers, "Actually, yes."
Corvin steps out onto the open balcony hallway of his temporary home. The apartment complex is ordinary and full of some of the poorer but innocent people of the city; it's the kind of place he usually hides out in when on a job. It's less likely to be searched by the police force, unless there is a random outbreak of the plague, and it feels safe. Corvin doesn't often go by feeling, but when you know, and your feelings match up with what you know….you're in a good place.
He scans the sparse crowd in the alley just below his second-floor view. He walks along the walk, keeping an eye out for no one in particular. When he reaches the stairs he stops and turns around. Letting the records, travel and money, settle was another reason he usually didn't work the first day after travelling….fast movements, unless he got out of their quickly, were more noticeable.
Celeste sits in her room, charging. She scans the internet for anything about lunars being on earth. That girl, and that guy… if they're lunars then how did they get to earth. Why are they on earth? She feels her system getting hot.
Charging Complete
Celeste gets up. She walks to her window and opens it. She looks down. She starts thinking about the thought she has every time she looks out her window. I could jump right now and run away, never having to work again. But why don't I? Suddenly, she thinks about Kai. She sighs. He's why.
-
Years ago, the emperor thought about getting Kai a friend. That's when I came in. I was built and programmed to act and look like a 7 year old sense Kai was 7.
They introduced him to me and the first thing he said was, "Why a girl?" I felt hurt. It was the first "emotion" I ever felt.
The scientist that brought me to Kai laughed and said, "How about you two go to the garden to play?" Kai agreed and said for me to follow.
We get to the garden.
"What should we play?" I asked. Kai paused for a moment, thinking. Suddenly, his face lights up.
"How about we play pirates?" He says lightly.
"Ok," I say, "How do you play?"
"It's simple!" He grabs two sticks and hands me one, "Now we fight like were pirates and these are our swords. But don't actually hurt me… or yourself." I nod understandingly and we start playing. Kai laughs and I do too. Even if I'm just simulating what he's doing everything feels real. It feels like I'm doing what I want to do. It feels like I'm actually a person; not a machine.
Kai falls on the ground, out of breath and I follow. I do not really have lungs but I think I look enough like a human for someone to think I have lungs. Then we both sit up. Looking around I see the garden, but it's in the distance. About a mile away. Did we really run out this far?
Kai stands up and starts walking back to the garden. I follow. Suddenly a figure behind a tree comes out.
"Hello kids!" The figure says.
"Who are you?" Kai asks.
"Your father sent me to come and tell you that you need to go inside now," The figure responds.
Kai looks sad and I want to comfort him, "Oh, okay." He starts walking back to where the castle is and I follow.
Just then the figure whistles and grabs Kai.
"I got him! Come out guys I got the kid!!" The man hollers. I run up the man and kick him in the shin. He yells out and drops Kai. The man lunges for me and grabs me.
"Kai! RUN!" I yell to him. He starts running and three more men come out. One grabs him. The man holding me tosses me over to another man.
I don't remember what happened after that.
-
Closing her window Celeste sighs again. The reason I don't go is because of him. We have that brother and sister relationship. I know he would protect me because that one day somehow we still ended up in the castle, safe and sound. I would protect him because he is one of my only true friends. The reason I don't go is because I need him… and I think he needs me.
Celeste decides to go take a walk.
(I like the short backstory for Celeste.)
Corvin frowns. His tablet, which he had set to work stealthily on searching for unit transactions by his target, has caught something. I don't get it.
How is his target, who he was 99% sure was in New Beijing, making purchases somewhere in South Africa? Corvin sighs and tosses his tablet back on his uncomfortable bed.
I need out. Soon he finds himself in one of the larger markets, hands stuffed in his pockets, people-watching.
(@"Peter Duende " Thx!)
Celeste walks around the large market. Maybe there will be something worth looking at… She sighs. As long as I don't let anyone know I'm an android, then everything will be okay.
She walks up to a stand selling gadgets.
(Open for interaction)
Corvin smirks at a few of the vendors. Their items obviously aren't worth the amount they're asking for them; 'authentic' and its synonyms are wrongly used and overused on many of the signs.
He steps up to a small stand displaying broken, probably beyond repair, gadgets. At least some of these parts are worth something.
Someone walks up to the stand next to him and he glances at them. It's a girl with pretty blonde hair that reminds him of cornsilk for some reason. He frowns; she doesn't look like a native-born of New Beijing, unless her hair is dyed of course. He wants to try and get a glance at slant of her eyes to see if she is from around here, but looks down at the stand in front of him before he can get caught staring. He picks up a random gadget and fiddles with it. The vendor behind the gadget stand notices and smiles fakely. "Interested? It's got some prime parts screwed into it, even if they're a little rusty."
(Open for interaction)
Celeste looks at the man next to her, but then quickly looks away. No eye contact and then I will be okay.
The man picks up something and the vendor says, "Interested? It's got some prime parts screwed into it, even if they're a little rusty."
Celeste looks at the gadget. She searches for what it is but finds nothing. Huh, that's strange. There should be some info on that thing. She keeps on looking at it, still avoiding.
She picks up a different gadget and studies it. She searches for what it is. There's nothing on this either.
"Uh, sir, what exactly is this?" Celeste asks the vendor.
(Open for interaction)
The vendor smiles oddly at Celeste. "Hello there. That is a fine ensemble of the inner parts of a home coffee maker. You won't find anything like that cheaper in stores."
Corvin smirks but hides it. The piece is obviously not what the vendor tells the girl. If I had to place units on it…..yes. Corvin decides that the gadget in his hand is probably Lunar. He sets it back down on the stand.
"Oh," Celeste says politely to the man in the stand. She places down the gadget. Celeste searches for what the object is again. Nothing. She quickly looks up and then back at the gadget. Finishing her scan she sees that the man is Lunar. Why hasn't he used his gift yet? She goes threw the scan one more time. He's a shell.
She looks around the stand a bit, searching for most things on the web. Nothing here is earth made.
"So, what else do you have here that's interesting?" Celeste asks. The vendor hands her a small little box. Turning it over Celeste examines the object.
"That my dear is a very special box," The vendor says.
Celeste tries to sound as surprised as possible, "Really? How so." Well, one thing is for sure, he is good at playing human.
Corvin listens intently but secretly to the dialogue between the girl and the vendor as he sifts through the smallest of gadgets with his finger, hoping to find some pretty or useful trinket. He happens upon a small brooch. It doesn't look like it contains any tech, but it is pretty. It is hardly a square inch, and Corvin can't identify the metal, but he thinks….Yes, this is worth a unit or two.
Corvin picks up the brooch and waits for the vendor to finish talking with the girl. He brushes at one of the butterfly's smooth wings with his thumb while he waits.
The vendor smiles, "And that my dear is why this box is so special."
Celeste flinches at being called "my dear" again.
"Don't call me my dear," she says coldly.
The vendor frowns, "And why not?"
Celeste opens her mouth but the man next to her clears his throat. Celeste and the vendor turn toward him.
"Oh sir, I forgot you were there! So sorry," The vendor exclaims.
(I normally don't try to use other people's characters but I didn't really know how to get the vendor to talk to Corvin again. I know this was such a minor movement I made Corvin do but I still wanted to make sure that it okay with you)
[I'll allow it this one time. :) ]
"No problem, it's just that I've got somewhere to be, and I thought I could make a quick purchase while this lady is still deciding." Corvin holds up the brooch. "I think I've found the piece I'd like."
He just called me a lady. Celeste smiles. He doesn't know I'm an android. Her smile goes away quickly. Does he know that this man is Lunar? Does he actually want to buy that brooch?! Celeste decides to stay at the stand for one more moment to see if the man next to her shows any signs of being used.
("Used?")
Corvin politely smiles at the girl and shows the vendor the piece. "I don't think it'd be worth more than 2 units tops." The vendor takes the piece from him, looking at the object in discussion and then back at Corvin.
"I'll give it to you for 3, it's looks like it used to be worth more."
Corvin holds back a frown at the greedy vendor's comment, but pays him the 3 units. "Thanks." He says without any true gratefulness as he takes the brooch from the vendor.
( I meant like a lunar using their gift on you. Sorry, I should've worded that better)
Well, he does seem like he wants to buy it… Celeste looks at the vendor again. She turns around walk away but suddenly her system starts glitching. She freezes. Then, just as quickly as it came, the glitch stops. Running a quick diagnostics she realizes that the man tried to use his gift on her to get her to buy something. What just happened. Androids don't get affected by lunars….
She turns around and takes one last look at the vendor. Without realizing it she holds eye contact for a few seconds.
Celeste shudders and walks away
(Ah, I understand.)
"Uh, thanks." Corvin quickly turns around. His eyes swerve back and forth, finally catching on the girl's light hair. He follows quickly behind, and, not wanting to get a punch in the face for tapping her shoulder, he instead says, "Excuse me, ma'am?"
Celeste stops. If this is the vendor I'm gonna scream
She turns around keeping her head low to make sure no eye contact would happen. While looking at the ground she can tell a little bit by his shoes that it is the man that was next to her in the stand.
"Yes?" She says politely.
Corvin smiles at the girl in spite of her apparent shyness. He holds out the brooch. "I got this for you."
Replaying what she just heard she stands there in awe. He got that for me. For me. She smiles.
"You got that for me?" Celeste says quietly.
Wait, something doesn't add up… why me?
Corvin gives a small smile to reassure the girl. "Yeah, I hope it's not too weird." He's talking about his action of giving her the brooch, but as he glances down at the item in his hands, he worries at its simple extravagance. "It's a free gift. I'm not asking for anything from you."
He seems like he means it but what's his real motive?
Still looking down and the man feet Celeste says, "Thank you… can I ask why your giving this to me?" She looks up at the man, giving eye contact
