Another brother and sister spat..
Valentina drew back and frowned. Then her expression deadpanned, and she put her hands firmly on her hips. "I don't like your tone, hermanito," she retorted using the same tone.
Arturo furrowed his brow just slightly. He didn't say anything, knowing full well that getting into the middle of one of these… discussions never ended well.
He did tug Diego's wing a little harder than necessary. Purely by accident, of course.
Diego yelped softly “ ouch! “ he said and looked back at his sister “ go fool around with your friends before I put you back in your place”
Valentina's jaw dropped, and she glared at Diego before running down Casita's hall to her room and darting inside. She shut the door and closed her eyes tightly. What was it that she always heard Tía Abuela Pepa saying? "Clear skies, clear skies, clear skies," she whispered, trying not to descend into a heap of emotions.
Diego and his sister had gotten into a serious fight, and his dad had been brought into it. Which had led to a very rough fight.
Arturo gave Diego a long look. "Avecito… you've got to be better than that." He patted his cousin's wings. "All cleaned up. Why don't you go test them? It's a beautiful day, the sun is shining and there's just a slight breeze." He smiled, before turning and heading towards Valentina's room.
The big guy knocked gently on her door. "Valentina?" He projected as much calm in her direction as he could, hoping she could feel it through the door. "You alright?"
Diego got up and went for a quick flight
Valentina covered her mouth and nose to hide the sound of her quiet crying when she heard the knock. Arturo's voice reached her, and she relaxed a bit. For a second, she thought it was Diego. "I'm fine," she called back, trying not to sound choked up. "I'm good. Great actually. I'm doing great. Thanks for asking! How are you?" She cringed at her own words right after they passed her lips. Her tone wasn't sarcastic, but she tended to ramble when she was either excited or upset.
"Mind if I come in?" Arturo opened the door just a little bit, and stuck his head in, but just up to his eyes, leaving him peeking at her around the corner. "I'm doing great, just worried about you, Lucecita." He stuck a hand in the door. "I've still got some pandebono, if you want it…"
Valentina jumped at the sound of the door opening, and she whirled around to tell him off for invading her room. But instead, she burst into laughter seeing just his eyes peeking over at her. "Arturo!" she cried out, shaking her head and laughing with tears pooling in her eyes. "I'm fine, really. Although…" She reached over and snatched the pandebono from his grip. "If you insist."
Her laugh made him smile. Always a good sign.
"I do insist." He opened the door a little wider and offered her a hand. "I also insist you come with me to find Tia Isabella. It's nice outside, and the sunshine is so pretty, with the flowers waving in the breeze…" He waited, hoping she'd take him up on it.
Valentina felt his hope and kindness extend to her, and she reached for his hand. "Very well, primo," she said, letting herself smile too before taking a bite of her great aunt's pandebono and moaning at the taste. "Maldito," she murmured, shaking her head. "Why is her food always so good?"
"Welcome to the Family Madrigal…" Arturo sang softly, a grin on his face. Tia Mirabel had a song for everything.
He gently took Valentina's small, soft hand in his larger calloused one, and tugged her through the door. "We can check the market first, and maybe we'll find her between there and here." He headed out the front, careful to sneak past the kitchen. If Tia Julieta heard him leaving, she'd give him a look, and then he'd be going nowhere but up to his room.
Diego few over town, fighting with I few updrafts. He felt bad about what he said, but his sister shouldn't have been such a perra
While all of this chaos was happening, Elena was in her room, turning her rug into stone and back again, over and over.
Atuñ walked over to Tia Mirabell's room, knocking softly. "Tia?"
Valentina giggled and followed Arturo. She felt something, however, pull her back. Like a string taunt between her and something else. "Wait," she whispered, a playful grin on her face. "What about our other primos, Arturo? ¿Podemos todos ir a la aventura?"
Arturo had mostly been trying to cheer Valentina up. If she wanted others to come along, and it would make her happy, that was fine with him.
"Bring whoever you want! I don't even know who's home right now, though." He smiled brightly at her.
Valentina grinned back, then pursed her lips. Without a word, she raced back upstairs, paced down the hall, and knocked on the door to Elena's room. "Prima?" she called. "I know you're in there! Come here!"
Elena looked up, pleasantly surprised. "Coming!" She called. She tied her hair into a messy ponytail with an orange ribbon and then left her room.
Atun (i have given up on trying to figure out how to do the accent thing) Sat outside of Tia Mirabell's room, hoping she would be there soon.
(Its implied ;)
Arturo waited for Valentina to get back, wondering who she was planning on inviting. He noticed Atun waiting outside Tia Mirabel's door.
"Atun! You wanna come with us? I don't think Tia Mirabel is home." he called over. "Maybe she's out and about with Tia Isabella. We could try to find them both, if you need something."
"Oh! yeah, sure, I'll come" Atun stood up, walking over to him. "Where are we going?"
