Kaito wasn't coming back, and the doctors eventually called his time of death

Rantaro looked away after that. His boyfriend had died, and he regretted never confessing his feelings sooner. He couldn't take seeing his lover's dead, lifeless body anymore. He just couldn't handle seeing the person that he loved so deeply dead. He couldn't, even if he had witnessed the death. He eventually walked out of the room before bolting down the hall. He just wanted to go home and cry.

Kokichi ran after him, tears already in his eyes “ taro!”

Rantaro turned around to look at Kokichi, though he had no idea why the other was following him to begin with. "What…?" he asked, wanting some form of comfort.

Kokichi ran up and hugged the other “ I'm so sorry!”

Rantaro shook his head. "No need… He's just…gone… I-I should've…confessed sooner… I could've…been there…longer…!"

“ you can't change the past taro..”

Rantaro nodded. "I know… Just wish I could…! I-I would've…done things…differently…! I was with him for a day…and then he died…in my arms…"

“ he filled his purpose.. His job was done..”

"He…he died…. I-I held him…as he died…" Rantaro sighed softly. "Why…? Why did…everything…have to be…like this…?"

“ I'm not sure rantaro..” kokochi said weakly

"I…I'm not either…but…I miss him…" Rantaro sighed as he looked away, knowing that he was about to sob.

Kokichi sighed “ I do too..” he said and held rantaro

"Why…just why…?" Rantaro asked as he sobbed. "He-he's gone…for-forever…"

“ I know.. I know..” kokichi comforted (end?)

Kokichi continued making efforts to comfort Rantaro until he finally calmed down and worked on accepting that Kaito was dead. It took a while for Kokichi to fully get Rantaro over the death of his boyfriend, but he eventually succeeded. Rantaro became his old self as time passed, and after a few months, he was okay again. Every year, he would visit Kaito's grave and leave little gifts. He loved the other even after everything, and it showed. He kept doing this until the day he died. Tragically, he died only a few years later in an accident while on a trip. However, once that happened, he and Kaito made a happy reunion in the afterlife.

(A slightly happy ending for this)
