I'm writing a story where the three main races are humans, dragons, and wyverns. The humans and dragons I have down, but I need some ideas for wyverns. As much as I would love to just take the Monster Hunter list of wyverns and such, I can't pay for copyrights and such.
(Though seriously, I don't think I could beat the design of a T-rex with a polished obsidian carapace that has EXPLODING FISTS)
So what kind of ideas do you need?
I need ideas for wyverns. What would they look like? Sound like? Eat? How do they fight? I've already got one called the Boromandur, a wyvern that is too heavy to fly on account of its thick scales, massive horns, and mace-like tail. It is covered in a special moss that absorbs water, and it uses its tail to knock down rotted trees for food.
I just need some that will be biologically probable (we can take some pretty major liberties here) and aren't blatantly stealing from other works of fiction.
One thing that helps me when doing this sort of thing is looking up anything I can on the subject. I'm working on my own animal species called Hellions. I'm taking inspiration from many different things – like from history, myth, and random stuff – and mashing together certain animal traits and body parts.
For wyverns, you could take inspiration from their page on Wikipedia. Reading the description and letting your imagination put the pieces together in new ways can lead to some interesting ideas. Along with that, we could chat about what they are.
What nutrients fuel horn growth? What drives the wyverns? What is their history so far?
Thins like that. :D
