Has no idea how to start the book, but has written a bunch of scenes

@blue_topaz

tip for writer's block: just literally choose the character you're having difficulty with and put hem through like twenty personality tests
if it's the plot that's sticking, then idk good luck

The one trope that always pisses me off is the Nice Guy™. oh wow! the bad boy (and the only character with an interesting backstory) was being evil and manipulating the heroine the entire time! Good thing there's a wholesome, FDA-approved, gluten-free, one-dimensional Nice Guy™, who was there all along!

I wanna make a story where it turns out the nice guy is actually evil and the heroine and the not-so-bad boy have to work together to stop him. Its just that this type of story encourages toxic behavior and entitlement. if y'all don't believe me just go to r/NiceGuys on Reddit

@Yamatsu

There's this one trope where the main character happens to be great at, like, EVERY fighting style. Just… no! People can be proficient in whatever fighting style they want, but if they pick up a rapier even though they've had 15 years of arming sword experience, they're not gonna know how to use it properly! Likewise, not every sniper is going to know how a machine gun works and why you can't just hold the trigger down. Why is this fifteen-year-old girl kicking the crap out of an experienced fencer with a dagger?!

Frozen?

lmao I hate that movie bc the twist came out of nowhere (see: https://youtu.be/FSmcGuPQi0A) but yeah basically that without the whole sister plot

Characters who are 'token minorities' in a group and there only for Diversity PointsTM. I mean, diversity in stories? Great. Poorly executed, 1-D stereotypes with 1 personality trait? Nope. I'd rather see no asexuals than poorly written asexual cliches. Same with autistic characters.

@Yamatsu

Tokens work when they're funny. Take Token from South Park. He's hilarious, and the stereotypes somehow make it funnier!

Strong, independent "men-are-completely-unnecessary" female protagonists that can't feel pain and kill emotionlessly are waaaaay too overrated. Every time I find a story with this main character I can't help but role my eyes. Like c'mon guys. Originality.

How about a strong, men-are-teammates-and-so-are-people-of-any-gender-race-age-identity-sexuality-and-so-on female protagonist that has emotions and is vulnerable and has a, like, personality and a supportive friend(s) that they don't have romantic feelings for and if there is to be any romance at all for them it won't be cliche or happen overnight and will actually develop between two characters over time? Is that an alright character? Just wondering.

Deleted user

Erm….. I'm not going to answer that one. In truth I do get crushes pretty quickly, and lose them pretty quickly too.

But if we're going by how most people are, developing the romance makes the story ACTUALLY F***ING REALISTIC AND DOWN TO EARTH!!! Seriously, if you write it how life actually works, people will relate to the characters more and like the story more on the whole.
