So I have a character that is a clone/experiment. He doesn't think of himself as human, most of the time, since he's been treated all his life as lesser, as not human. He refers to himself as an "it", and is referred to as such. He has no name, only a number designation. He doesn't show emotion, as he isn't allowed to. He often thinks of himself as "malfunctioning" when he feels emotions or desire. I want to show him struggling with this sort of inferiority, and struggle with thinking of himself as a person. What's the best/most believable way to do that?

I guess one way is to characterize is either to make his a self-sacrificing doormat who sees his life as a use for the humans that goes through arc of seeking out his humanity
Anyway what his feelings towards the humans, does he like them or resent them
