One of my favorite things to do is find a theme song for every character and then write a scene introducing them to the other characters, while that song is playing. It's more of an exercise than content I would really use, but it helps me get excited about that character and helps to imagine their aesthetic and how they appear to other characters. Does anyone else do this?

@Samoyed

Omg…. yes…. idk why but it's really useful. I don't do it super often but like you said it can help make you imagine a certain scene or scenario in your head.

@Athantos

I love making character playlists too! Music is seriously helpful for me when setting a mood or imagining a scene, so if I can find a song that perfectly fits the scene I'm writing or the character I'm writing about, it helps to find the words and structure of the passage.

@DarklingFyre

I don't make playlists for my characters, but I have theme songs for my two main boys. I find its really cool for when I'm drawing, and really helps me think of poses and mannerisms and develop their characters!

@Absolum

I always will binge nightcore until a song really creates a scene in my head.

Me too lol. Sometimes I hear something by accident and go "wow, that sounds like _____"

oh hell ya, love the intense energy that nightcore can bring to a world

@KathGray

Ah, I really love it, but I'm not very good at finding the right songs ^^'
Most of them I just hear on the train or some shop and I never get to know it's name :<
Do anyone know if there's a site where I can search for songs based on their
characteristics? Like, mood, musical instruments, etc…

(Sorry if I wrote anything wrong XP English is not my main language ^^')

No. You're not the only one.

I do this all the time. Playlists for certain characters, themes, etc. Really helps you get in the right mood and feel for the character :)

@sgadanwrites

Same here- I always create playlists based on the character's personalities, backstories, etc. For example, Iain's tend to be more simple, poetic and haunting, Fiona's sophisticated and romantic, and Ciarán's super upbeat and energetic.

It actually never occurred to me to link characters to songs or playlists. I mean I have certain music I listen to when trying to write different kinds of scenes and I've gotten inspiration for stories from songs but I've never really associated songs with my characters. It's kind of a cool concept.

I love finding songs that relate to my characters or events in my stories and using lyrics from those songs as chapter titles.
I'm constantly hearing new songs and being like, "Oh my god that's so —!"

@Masterkey

At the moment, I've been writing down songs that I happen to hear and IN THE MOMENT realize it fits perfectly to one of my characters in a certain scene or moment or situation. FOR EXAMPLE: When my main character, Asher, is starting to change from being a selfish asshole with a lot of acquaintances but no true friends to being someone who actually has something noble to live for and friends he loves and wants to protect, "Trouble" by Imagine Dragons really struck me as the perfect song for the moment of his epiphany or at least the gradual change in him.

The drums, the guitar, and these lyrics all really fit the feel of the moment:

"Oh quiet down, I've had enough
I guess it’s now or never"

AND

"I took a photograph of me
When I was only nineteen
I looked a little lost at sea
I keep trying to find me"

AND THEN

"Pray for me brother, I need redemption"

AND

"Oh pack it up and hit the road"

They're very small tidbits, and even if Asher's situation isn't exactly the message of the song, those specific sections and the specific sounds the instruments play are perfect.

That ended up being long, welp.
