what would push them to that point? how do they look while crying? who is around, and how do they feel about it? how often does this happen? anything else notable? break them!

@Young-Dusty-the-Monarch-of-Dusteria group

D'artagnan: Is honestly the crybaby of the group, even though he always tries to put on a brave face. He cries over sad song and movies, he cries over the bad stuff that happens in the world, he cries when he's had a long day, he cries alone in his room at night when his anxiety overwhelms him, he even cries when he's happy sometimes. He rarely has a complete breakdown, but his tear ducts are directly connected to his heart and his heart gets hurt easily. ^^; The only two people he feels comfortable crying around are his mom and Kineta because they both have a knack for calming him down no matter what.
Kineta: Hasn't really cried since she was sixteen and finally got a good hug from a mother-figure for the first time in her life. She's a pretty chill person and not much can upset her these days. So I guess the only thing that could make her cry is really bad stuff, like somebody she loves dying or almost-dying. She'll never cry in front of someone if she feels like she's supposed to be the strong one, but somehow D'artagnan always knows how she really feels and gives her a shoulder to lean on when she needs it.
Melanie: She read somewhere that crying can be a healthy way to process your emotions. So sometimes she experimentally allows herself to cry, just to see if it's true. She found that maybe it does help, a bit, but she's looking for a miracle cure, not a temporary fix, and that won't happen until she admits that her only real problem is her mentality about life. No one's ever seen her cry, she's made sure of that.
Dean: Ugly cries when she's too tired to get angry, which is her default reaction to bad stuff. She hates it when other people see her cry because she's afraid they'll mock her for being 'weak'. Melanie, however, has a certain sixth sense that helps her notice when Dean's about to fall apart and diligently makes sure she can go somewhere private to sob and pour out all her feelings for Melanie's calm listening ear.
Brandon: Like Dean, crying only put a target on his back when he was a kid, so these days he usually covers up his grief with anger, or a bitter devil-may-care smile. He's cynical and untrusting, so even if someone tries to reach out, he usually pushes them away with sarcasm and an unsavory attitude. Literally the only person who's patient and unflappable enough to stick with him anymore is Boar-back, because he can guess very accurately what percentage of Brandon is bark and how much is bite. (He's mostly bark.) And Brandon lowkey hates the fact that Boar-back can see straight through him, but at the same time, waayyyy deep down, he appreciates it.
Boar-back: Has possibly never shed tears. Nobody knows. There may not even be anything that could make him cry at this point. Except there is something….and it's going to happen in the story eventually…..maybe….wink wonk

@CinnamonRoll

this sounds FUN

Natalie: She's stone-cold as hell, but that's a facade born out of panic. She tears up easily at reminders of her old life, especially when hearing classical music. She doesn't understand why these things make her cry–it's more a subconscious thing, and she hates it. They're silent tears, where she's biting the inside of her lip to keep it from shaking and wiping at her cheeks every time a tear breaks through her lashes. She has a bit of a 'bottling-up-emotions' problem these days. But she can (and will ;))) break down in front of her sister, Clara. That's UGLY crying, where she's all red and screaming and tense and shaking.
Clara: Clara's a bit weepy. She gets teary each time she sees Natalie 2.0 for weeks until she finally adapts. She cries when Nico talks to her too harshly in public, quiet tears running down her face. She cries when he hits her, but she doesn't truly let loose until he's gone. In the good old days (you know, when she was a heroin addict) she had breakdowns during withdrawl for the first few weeks. They were a horribly unhealthy cocktail of addiction and self-loathing tears. She cries with joy a lot, too, especially after her first kiss with Tesla–to be fair, it was a very emotional situation. She weeps when she's afraid for her friends, and she would (and will ;)))) break down if they were ever hurt.
Julianna: Literally NEVER cries. She's icier than Natalie and twice as messed up. She's been groomed to take over as a gang leader since she was way too young, and crying in an environment like that wasn't safe. Showing weakness in front of her family and their supporters is the kind of thing that could've gotten her killed. But she cries once, and it's really bad. Everything about her falls apart for five minutes of screaming, trashing her brother's office, and threatening to kill Natalie. Two things happened at the same time to make her snap: her mother was killed, and Natalie betrayed her. (Put the pieces together). After that, we don't see her cry again.
Nico: Nico only cries for himself. He has a quiet sob session while telling Natalie about his resentment of his mother, and he has a shell-shocked breakdown when Clara injects him. He's never been moved enough to cry for someone else, not even Clara, who he claimed to love.
Monty: Monty's the kind of guy to mask his own issue with dark humor. He rarely, if ever, cries for himself. But he does cry for the people he loves. Monty's ridiculously empathetic. When Clara opens up to him, he cries with her. When Bianca cries, so does he. When his mother dies, he cries quietly. And when Bianca dies, he absolutely breaks down in a quiet, shaking type of crying. He's also prone to angry tears, which happen when he faces both Natalie and Nico.
Bianca: Bianca cries as a release. She cries when driving fast with the music loud, screaming lyrics as a form of catharsis. She cries a little too much at the end of rom-coms, craving a romance like that. Often, she cries after hooking up, since she uses casual sex as a way of relieving stress and sadness, but it's not the connection she really wants. She also cries with and for friends, especially Clara, since Bianca has a special hatred for abusive men. She cries for Thalia, too, when she loses her for the last time. At the time of her death, she cries for everything she never got to do.
Thalia: Thalia's an angry crier, but she can also fake pretty good tears. She cries in rage when her plans fail, mostly, but also when Bianca dies. Her fake tears are used to great effect around Natalie, to make her feel like the superior figure, the comforter. She fake cries herself into webs of lies, tricking people like Clara, Bianca, and Monty into empathizing for her. Her lies are what ultimately turn Clara against Natalie, since Thalia convinces Clara that her sister is irredeemably changed.
Tesla: This absolute angel rarely cries, just because he's so positive. He strongly believes in the bright side, and he fights hard to keep his head up. But he will cry with the people he loves. He cries with Clara when she beats her addiction, when she opens up about Nico, when she gives up on Natalia, and when Bianca is killed. The two of them lean on each other emotionally. Plus, Clara tends to cry about things that are either positive (like beating heroin) or have no clear upside (like Bianca's death), which are exactly the kinds of thing Tesla would cry about.

@Oakiin

Ooh, ooh, me!! (Coming back after finishing this, nvm, I actually made myself cry with TItan's holy f….)

Cello: Cello has a great grasp of his emotional limits and amazing emotional control…or so he thinks. In reality, he just is good enough at turning things around in his favor he's hardly ever had the opportunity to hit rock bottom. But when he does…
After Reason left him, he completely broke down. It was a blow that shook him to his core in a way he hadn't believed possible. He cried then. He scream-cried alone, where he'd been abandoned, the betrayal too much for him to handle. He was curled on the ground sobbing for hours. He thought he might never get up, too damaged by Reason's abandonment to even come up with a point in carrying on. And when, hour later, the grief subsided, it was taken over by rage, and he cried with rage, even though all his tears were gone.

Ram: Ram cries a lot, actually. Or, gets really close to crying. He cries when he's alone, only the ghost of his dead friend Anthony there to comfort him, he cries when he's just with one or two people, Itha and Jiji trying to comfort him, or maybe Osric, who's silently holding him, for once out of mean jokes and snarky quips, just trying to help Ram stay in one piece. He cries around Mehri, though she never tries to help, just watching silently and from afar. He cries around Cal, who comforts him with coffee and a weighted blanket. He fights back tears when he sees his families fighting, when he remembers the things he's done, when he sees one of his friends upset and knowing he can't help. He fights back tears as he stares at Silverlake, the one who caused all his pain and all the pain of his friends. He fights back tears when he sees new cuts on Itha's arms, or when he realizes how unfairly he's been treating Jiji. When he gets tired and wants to give up he turns to Anthony or Osric, begging them for a reason to keep going, and while Anthony quietly comforts him, Osric sometimes only stares back, a dull "I don't have one" his only reply.

Dakota: Dakota almost never cries. They almost never show their emotions like that. But in their truck, after their parents died, waiting for the police to come pick them up, they buried their face in their arms, silently screaming their agony and confusion to the world. No sound was made, only a few tears fell, but that doesn't mean they didn't feel it, entirely overwhelmed by the shock and the pain. Their entire body tense, fists clenched and shoulders hunched, they truly felt their loss, in those brief seconds before they had to paint a dull portrait of composure as the police arrived. They didn't cry after that, just stared with their eyes blank, unable to comprehend what had happened.
Only once they'd found a family again did they realize their grief, and let it out, sobbing as their new family comforted them, hugging them, holding them, whispering that it would be okay, that they were loved.

Titan: Titan physically can't cry. He doesn't possess the functions. Nor has he had much occasion to want to.
But if Peyton died…
He would have been there. They were never apart. He would be holding her body, staring at it as he slowly realized what death really was. Death wasn't just someone going still and cold and not moving at all, death was someone going away forever. You could never see them again, never hold their hand again, never hear their voice again. And Peyton was dead. He wouldn't be able to comprehend it for a long time. Humans sleep, it's fine. Death is just like sleep, just a little different. It wouldn't be until, hours later, as Peyton's body became stiff in his arms that it would occur to him that she wasn't waking up. He would reach up and touch her face, trying to wake her up, because when people are asleep, they're limp. This stiffness couldn't be good for her, she would be sore when she woke up. He'd shake her, oh so gently, and slowly start to panic as she still refused to respond. She had to wake up. She always had before.
He wouldn't know what to do. Without Peyton guiding him, he would be lost. He needed her to wake up, to tell him what he should do. The panic would stay with him for a long time, but as it became clear that nothing he did was going to wake her up, it would subside, replaced by confusion, shock, and something he'd never felt before. He wouldn't have a name for it, but it hurt. An emotion had never hurt before. It gripped his chest, making it hard to breath, his throat burning with some strange pain he couldn't place. His eyes burned too, but he couldn't tell why, or what was hurting him. He couldn't tell why his hands were shaking, or why his heart was pounding. He was scared. He needed Peyton to wake up and tell him what was wrong, tell him what was hurting him, how to make it stop.
All he would think of to do is curl more tightly around her body, hiding her from whatever was attacking him, trying to hide himself. He had to protect her, even if he was hurting. He wouldn't let her hurt too.

@Althalosian-is-the-father book

Hmm. Let's go with the cast of The Marked first since I play with them so often these days.

Daniella. She is all business, crying is not an option, and so when it comes it surprises her and she doesn't know how to deal with it since it was never in the program. When she cries she's a mess and asks that nobody trouble about her. She'll try to get back on task as soon as possible, and most of the time she does. But sometimes she is forced to take the time to have a good cry whether she likes it or not. Normally she prefers to do this in solitude, but she secretly just wants someone to hold her. Which someone does and !!!!!!!!!!

Rune. What? Crying? Crying is for the weak. Crying Theresa is dead. Crying is for the ones who can't deal with life. They can cry as much as they like. Not her.

Octavia. Octavia cries in front of Theresa. No. One. Else. She might if Rune died. But she might wait until she was alone to let the tears come. But she doesn't cry. And she would hurt anyone who suggested she did.

Josiah. He's chill with crying I think. He doesn't like it, and doesn't do it often, but when he does he'll do it in the open if only friends are around. Wants hugs. Especially from Alene.

Sam. She will always prefer to deflect any negative emotions. But if she has to cry, she'll do it in front of anyone she feels safe with, like Daniella and Josiah, but probably not in front of Kym.

Alene. Will cry in front of anyone who will let her. She also knows that she can get sympathy which is part of why she allows it. But if she really needs something she'll go to Josiah because she knows he'll do whatever he can for her.

(I'll do more later I think.)

Carsyn

Autumn: Was a crybaby when she was younger, but due to some traumatizing issues with her brother who constantly used the phrase "cry me a river" (the title of the story) on her, she ran away and told herself she would never cry until potentially a loss of a friend occurs.

Azaiah: Will try as best as he can to not cry to stay strong for the group. The only time he'll cry is after the loss of someone and will cry alone.

Lanea: Tries to hold in tears in order to continue being the comic of the group so they can stay optimistic. Eventually, she ends up breaking down because of this when a stressful situation hits and she could not take it anymore.

August: Will cry no matter what. He doesn't try to put up a front for anyone, he'll cry when he's in pain or suffered a loss. He does not hold back and is very honest. He mainly ugly cries.

Denka: Experiences in his life allowed him not to feel many emotions in order to put up this tough exterior. He isn't capable of crying because of this and is replaced with anger or irritation.

Delmus: He'll shed a tear once and will quickly get over it. He prioritizes events that will happen than events that have already happened and continue moving toward the future.

Merrick: The same as Denka where he wasn't permitted to feel many emotions to put up a strong front. But he won't ignore other's emotions and will sympathize.

Tulip: Traumatized by the loss of her parents, she used to grieve all the time about their deaths. Eventually, as time moves on she starts developing a positive mindset, but when the death of a close relationship occurs PTSD will occur causing a mental breakdown.

@Young-Dusty-the-Monarch-of-Dusteria group

I'm back for round two swings fists helplessly

Mike: Only cries when he's in intense physical pain these days, and that's mostly just a gut response rather than an emotional one. The last time he truly broke down was when he was seventeen, and he's currently thirty. He doesn't deal with bad things by shedding tears, rather he isolates himself and goes for a walk or a run–sometimes until he's so exhausted he can't make it back home. Physical exercise and fresh air help him process things. He pretty much trained himself to calm down as soon as he goes into the woods, after spending almost a decade solo-hiking across his country. There is one, literally one person he might consider safe to relax around when he's sad, and that's his best friend Bernon. It's never actually happened, though. The time when Bernon witnessed him sobbing in his sleep while they were out camping doesn't count.
Bernon: Cries over everything and isn't shy about doing so in public. He cries over sad stories, love stories, pretty sunrises, cute kittens, hugs, his friends, his enemies, the all-consuming loneliness buried deep inside his soul, nice songs, fine art, bittersweet memories, cute ladies, cute gentlemen, happy endings…..etc. He is the exact opposite of Mike and far more well-adjusted. He hates being alone when he's sad and actually seeks out a shoulder to cry on most of the time. If that shoulder belongs to Mike, he just barely tolerates Bernon's soppiness and has no idea how to react. Because Bernon's so free with his emotions, he usually gets over them pretty quickly, so it actually takes a lot to truly break him.
Crash: Crash doesn't really understand crying because he's rarely that sad and even more rarely afraid. But when he does cry, it's usually out of pain or intense panic. Also he cried when his parents passed away–he knew they were gone even though they lived miles apart at the time. Generally, he cries when he feels helpless, because he's normally very confident and capable and can almost always handle whatever trouble comes his way. But when he can't, or when he doesn't know how, he starts to freak out. His girlfriend Hiss has seen him cry and was there for him, which was what really cemented their relationship in the long run. The fact that Crash was willing to show a weaker side of himself around her proved that she really was someone special.
On the other hand, once he's done crying, he's done. He doesn't hold onto grief or worry like a human might. For the most part, he's a very calm, grounded person, and while he's still a grumpy loner, he's a content grumpy loner, not an angsty one.
Nina: She's the type to always try and hide her tears with a smile, except she's really bad at it and you can always tell when she's sad if you've known her for even a few weeks. She's so sensitive and softhearted that she cries for other people way more than she cries for herself, but sometimes she just finds herself sobbing alone in her room with no idea why, not realizing that she's been bottling up her stress and heartache for days and is totally overwhelmed. Luckily, she has plenty of friends and family members looking out for her. Her parents are always there for her, her little brother can almost read her mind, and her boyfriend Luke will personally make sure that no one hurts or upsets her on his watch. He's also her rock, and knows just what to say to get her back in reality so she doesn't get lost in anxious or despairing thoughts. It's the least he can do after all she's done for him.
Luke: He doesn't cry, he laughs. Quietly. Mirthlessly. Alone in his room at twilight when he's pretty sure his enemies have finally caught up to him. Sometimes the laughter doesn't sound anything like laughter after a few minutes, but by then he's ready to subside into silence anyway. He's spent years pushing certain memories to the back of his mind and he knows if he cries, there won't be any chance of fighting them off. It isn't until he royally screws up so bad that he can't ever go back, when he's lying in a sewage tunnel with broken ribs, and the entire city's police force looking for him, and there's too much blood on his hands to ever wash off, that he finally admits to himself what a horrible person he's become. And then he cries all right, but his ribs hurt too much to really melt down the way he wants to, so he's left with no choice but to lie there and wonder if this is how he dies. It's not, but that's another story ;)
He no longer hides from his past, but he still hasn't shared it with Nina. More for her sake than his. He doesn't want to see her ache for him too, after she's already tired from carrying everyone else's pain.

@ccb group

ok since i started the thread and promised myself i’d get around to actually participating, here we go…

Page: She isn’t emotionless, but it’s rare for her to be upset enough that she can’t fight back tears; the only way to get her to that point is to attack something she holds dear in a way that seems irreparable (which, to be fair, could mean a variety of things). The first time she cries this school year, it’s because she’s injured and has to take leave from the track team. It’s at the beginning of winter break, in front of her father, and she just sheds a few tears, hugs him, and brushes them away. The second time she cries, it’s after she finds out the circumstances of her injury, and the extent of Laurel’s manipulation of her. Frustrated that she’d been coerced into her role of The Hero, hurt that nobody had ever told her about her lineage, and angry that her own family was willfully keeping her in the dark like a pawn, she storms off into the woods and is followed by Darcy. She breaks down in front of her, tears steadily spilling down her cheeks, but she’s endeared enough to Darcy at this point that she lets herself be comforted. If it had been anyone else, even one of the boys, she probably would have worked harder to restrain herself, and she probably would have been able to, at least until she was alone.

Darcy: Darcy heavily compartmentalizes and guards her feelings, and it's rare that she lets herself tune in enough to be hurt by anything. The last time she really broke down was when she tried to ressurect her parents at 13, and she full on scream-cried then, barely able to breathe. That incident sent her fully into her fortress of emotional repression. However, the events of the story chip away at her ability to ignore her feelings. After Jules captures her and reveals that he was the one who killed Phaedra and Teddy, Page rescues her; as Page tries to get her to drink some water, she is weak and hurt enough that she starts to choke on the water, her coughs dissolve into sobs, and she ends up weeping in Page's arms. If it was anyone besides Page (or maybe Silas), even under such dire circumstances, she would have been extremely embarrassed, and wouldn't in a million years have let herself be held. Instead, she woud probably become even snappier and ruder than usual, trying with futility to mask her extreme sadness with her anger. However, the one time she cries freely and inconsolably in front of everyone is when she thinks Page is dead. At her core, Darcy is actually quite sensitive, and losing anyone she cares about (or being betrayed by them) can completely break her, which is part of why building up her walls feels so crucial to her.

August: As the oldest in his family, August learned to be outwardly steady in times of crisis for the sake of his little sisters, and that habit has stuck with him. However, he tears up when he’s extremely anxious, and he’s a fairly anxious person. He cries relatively often when he’s alone and he’s had a rough day or something, but he will pretty much never let himself cry in front of people; when he does break, he doesn’t feel embarrassed so much as he feels like he’s failed, and like his being upset will now make the people around him upset. If he does cry in front of others though, the way to comfort him is not to fuss over him too much or ask a lot of questions (this will just make him more stressed) and to just gently take his hand or put an arm around him—show him you’re there without overwhelming him. Callie is particularly good at calming him down, and so is Page (because awkward shoulder pats are the only comfort she knows how to give, unless you’re Darcy).

Jesse: Jesse is both extremely sensitive and extremely embarrased about how sensitive he is. He grew up in an environment where men crying just wasn’t encouraged, but he still has always cried very easily; instead of dissuading him from crying, the restriction just made him more ashamed when he was crying, and the shame made him cry harder. He gets very shaky when he cries, and his sobs tend to be wheezing and high-pitched (in other words, it’s very clear that he’s upset). It doesn’t take much to break him: show him a slightly emotional movie, dwell on Tri Eta or his relationship with his parents, be particularly mean or nice to him when he’s already feeling low, etc. If he feels any negative emotion past a certain threshold, he will at least tear up, because his baseline level of anxiety is so high. While he typically feels bad crying in front of other people, and tries to avoid it (without success usually), he also really appreciates being comforted. However, before the events of the story, he hadn’t been properly taken care of while crying since he was 6; Silas is the first person to hold him while he cries in years. If you lend him your shoulder or give him a hug, you can at least mitigate how bad he feels about feeling bad.

Silas: Silas is fairly sensitive, but can typically control himself when it comes to crying, at least until he’s by himself. He is also quiet and subtle when he does cry (just like he’s quiet and subtle when doing everything). When he happens to cry in public he will hide his face and give off the aura that he doesn’t want anyone to come near him, or he will just slip away as quickly as possible, but he doesn’t mind being comforted by any of the few people he’s really close to (namely his mom and the other 4 members of the MoA squad, but particularly Jesse). There are a few things that will get him without fail; when someone he cares about is seriously emotionally hurt, he’s a sympathy crier, and anything heart-wrenching involving children or animals will choke him up. Like August, Silas is also much more likely to cry when he’s especially anxious.

i might come back and do side characters/antagonists, thank you for your responses friends they are very detailed and some of them are devastating

@Becfromthedead group

Aurelius: Sensitive, but not a crybaby. He is less likely to cry from sadness and more likely to cry because he is overwhelmed or feeling other things he cannot express. He often finds himself more tearful than usual when in the middle of depressive episodes.
Valkyrie: Doesn't cry much. She's very rough around the edges, doesn't grieve through crying, and was generally raised being told that crying never accomplished anything. Even as a child, she was scolded for crying over being pricked by thorns in the fields, over crying from sometimes-painful hunger, and many other things that might do the next man in.
Septima: Not a frequent crier, but not because of shame. That's just not how she works. She encourages others to cry if they need, but typically she only cries in extreme situations like grieving.
Taurin: Like his sister Septima, not really the crying type but holds no stigma against it.
Felix: Cries a good bit, but usually saves it for when he's on his own. He has a lot of pent-up frustration and unresolved issues, and he's a much more sensitive soul than he lets on. He feels godawful about crying and takes great shame in it, but sometimes it just can't be helped.
Rosalia: A very emotional individual. She's not a "crybaby," but she does cry a lot. Probably the most likely of the group to shed happy tears or to cry for someone else when she's not the one experiencing the pain.
Ignis: They are generally pretty collected, but they are best off when they have a good cry every now and then. It often is a tool they might use to sort out their emotions, and they consider crying in order to grieve especially healthy. They also will cry if someone else is crying, especially if said person doesn't usually cry.
Cyrus: Often has trouble crying, even though he needs to let it out. He cries probably a few times a year and it's the most horrible feeling. After all, when a dam breaks, a destructive flood often follows.
Moreau: Cries very little, but still more than one would expect from him at first glance. He is very private about it, and for him, crying is often a product of either worry or a feeling of not being good enough.
Fiera: Cries a pretty normal amount. Usually she lets it out and then is basically fine afterwards unless she's grieving or there is another extreme situation.
Naran: Doesn't cry much and feels uncomfortable upon seeing others cry. She doesn't necessarily judge it, but it's just hard for her to wrap her mind around at times.
Pollux: Probably hasn't cried since he was quite little. He just doesn't really have the emotional capacity to cry like most people do, and he in fact considers it something of a defect. The only crying he has done is perhaps involuntary tears of physical pain.

@Starfast group

Crispin: Doesn't really cry all that much, and usually deals with sadness by lashing out at others which isn't so great. He grew up in an environment that kinda had a lot of toxic masculinity, so he was kind of raised with this idea that crying= weakness, and weakness= bad. He cries exactly one time in the two and a half books that he appears in so far and it's because his father basically disowned him and then tried to kill him. So it takes a lot to make him really cry.

Gerard: Gerard has been through some shit and is really sensitive so he cries a lot. Will literally cry if you look at him the wrong way. He'll also sometimes cry when he's really stressed or overwhelmed, and not always because he's sad. But he gets stressed and overwhelmed a lot.

Kit: Doesn't really cry a whole lot, but there's certain topics that'll upset him and will make him cry if he's pushed too far. He'll also cry out of frustration sometimes, but he tends to handle it pretty well.

Matthew: Was kind of in a situation where he was being emotionally abused by one of his parents and was constantly being told that he was overreacting even though he usually wasn't. He cried more when he was younger (usually in private, when no one was around), but eventually he just started bottling everything up. Doesn't really cry much anymore.

Ara: Ara's not really a crier. He's working to become a trauma surgeon so he can't really afford to let his emotions get the better of him in extreme situations. He's actually kind of weirdly calm in stressful situations, and I'm pretty sure the only thing that might break him is losing someone close to him like his parents (but I'm not really planning for that to happen).

Andor: Andor usually tries to put on this "everything's fine," facade, so he doesn't really cry a whole lot either. When things aren't going to so great for him, he usually just does stuff to distract himself (ie. partying) and sometimes becomes a really messy drunk crier because of that. Will shed a couple tears in extreme circumstances, but other than that, he's pretty good at hiding things.

Garzlan: Kind of similar to Andor, Garzlan just kind of tries to act like everything is fine, but that's kind because he just wants the rest of his family to think that he has it together since he was kind of put in charge after the deaths of his parents.Doesn't really do a lot to distract himself though, so he kind of just periodically breaks down and starts crying. Usually though, it's pretty easy to get him to calm down unless something really bad has happened.

I'll probably come back with more later

@stolenbrocoli group

what would push them to that point? how do they look while crying? who is around, and how do they feel about it? how often does this happen? anything else notable? break them!

Garret: he's not vv in touch with his emotions and he just generally doesn't know how to handle them. but he's an angry crier for sure. and when he does cry, he scrunches his face up a lot and it's a vv aggressive cry. and since he doesnt have much control of his emotions, if he needs to cry he needs to cry and it doesn't matter who they're around. it doesn't happen often. i think what would make him break is when his love interest (who hes obsessed with) cuts all ties with him. He usually obsesses over any emotion that he does feel and it takes him over.

Dani: the negative emotions she feels are usually masked with anger so she only cries when she's really broken. when she cries, her face is blank and tears just stream down her cheeks. she has to be completely overwhelmed with her emotions to start sobbing. she prefers to cry alone because she grew up in a household where crying wasn't very acceptable. she only cries around people she can really trust.

Dominick: his emotions aren't masked with anger but they're fueled by it. he's a very manipulative and narcisistic person. He's as close to a sociopath as any of my important characters get. he only cries when he sees an opportunity for benefit, which doesn't happen often. the main person he manipulates in this way is his sister (dani^). His "break" is usually more on the psychotic side and he gets to this point when he realizes that no one trusts him anymore and therefore he doesn't have anyone left to manipulate. so he results to forcing what he wants.

i'll prolly have more at some point :)

Azami: She doesn't cry around most people, and it used to be a rare occasion. When her brother died, she finally broke. The only people she cries around are her remaining brothers and some very trusted friends. When she's reminded of her brother, she'll usually go to the ship's cook, who's like a brother to her, in the middle of the night, and let out all the emotions that have been bottled up inside her. When alone or with a trusted friend, sometimes she'll start full-on sobbing, trying to hide her face. Being a talkative person by nature, she tries to choke out sentences while crying. She sheds happy tears often, usually when reunited with friends.

Jax: Jax is a kid at heart(and actually), so she tends to cry whenever she gets emotional, except when she's doing a medical procedure. Jax gets emotional very often. She's the biggest crier of all my characters. She sees her captain return from a mission slightly beaten up? She'll cry. Somebody dies? She'll cry, of course. Somebody gets her her all-time favorite candy? She'll probably cry from happiness. Jax loves her captain dearly, and even though he's older than her, she feels like he has to protect him. If something happens to him, she'll start wailing, not trying to hide it. If her captain, or another adult that she trusts is around, she'll bury her face in their shirt.

Maia: Maia hasn't been known to cry, and only cries if something really bad has happened. The only times she cried were when one of her crewmates, who she considers her brothers, was killed, and when her boyfriend and captain, who she thought of as her father, died. The first time, she completely broke, and cried alone in her room for days. When her boyfriend and father were killed, she was half-dead, so she didn't have much of the energy to cry, although she managed to choke out a few words amidst her tears. When she died a few weeks later, she died with a smile on her face.

Fern: Would only ever cry around Christi, or by herself. Would only cry when someone she loves died. Also when she killed her father she was so physically and emotionally drained that when she tried to talk to her brother she broke down.
Christi: Would cry when Fern is crying, or if Fern died. Sometimes when she wants to cry she just smiles really big, or thinks about how annoying Xavier is so she can be mad instead of crying.
Chenelle: Never cries. Never. She would rather die than show emotion.
Ferrin: Tries really hard not to cry, would only do so around Wisp, or his mother.
Micheal: This boy might cry if he saw a bird get eaten.

@Leshierian

Aldin: He cries when his eyes have been open too long, or there is an eyelash or something in his eye.. it happens a lot actually… he never cries for any other reason. Well, unless you could count getting your face drenched.

Neo: Weeps softly, alone, in corners where no one will find them. they cry when the emotion they wished could be expressed with words or writing or something can't. Or of course, when their so called beast friend ends up becoming an ass faced jerk, whose got his head so far up his on ass that you can't tell where he begins and ends.

Leif: No one could ever tell if she cried or not, her face was always wet from the water she spent ever moment in.

Denver: He cries himself to sleep thinking about how he's failed everyone he loves, he tries to keep everyone safe, but they just keep dying, he wants to help Albin regain his lost life, he wants to help Neo express them self, he wants to be a good care giver for Rori, he feels he's let her down the most.

Rori: It's actually dangerous for her to cry, it would take too much of the water out of her body. it would just sizzle into steam, and she'd need to get water as soon as possible.

Micah: No one really knows, no has ever seen them cry. They always say "It's cause ghosts can't cry", But they aren't a ghost, nor are they a full human anymore, but that is beside the point.

Jairo: He'd probably just be talking to Kellen and tears would just start to pour out his eyes, he would say it's just from the pain, the bruises and such. He never cried when he was anyone else, even if they touched his fragile skin.

Kellen: Pretends to cry, pretends to care. he cries during movies, music, books, emotionally charged conversations. nut, he would never cry around Jairo, anyone else could tell him they saw a bird die and he'd start to cry, Jairo telling him the same thing, his eyes would be as dry and brittle as autumn leaves.

ooo okay this is gonna be fun

elara she cries easily. although, especially over characters who have terminal illness, in which case she tends to relate to them and their feelings way too much. also has frequent breakdowns where she just collapses in a corner of her room and cries. she tries so hard to stay strong but it's just not possible, as she also tends to have mood swings too. the reasons for them vary, from not wanting to die, to wondering what she did wrong to make god inflict upon her this illness (even though she's an aethist), and to being frustrated that there isn't even a way to extend her life.

Oooo let's seee okay right

Willem: Lil Willem is a softie, really. However, life has taught him that nothing will ever go your way when you want it and you have to look out for yourself. A resilient soul. Even though he tries not too, he cries, more then he likes to. He puts up this front that he's strong because he has to be, for everyone that he loves (which is a lot). As one of the only boys in the orphanage with a steady income even on his bad days he has to go into work even if he feels like he's on the verge of a breakdown. Doesn't tend to cry in front of people, usually it's when he's alone in the library or in bed at night. The only person he trusts enough to cry in front of was Oliver, his best mate. When Olive was murdered he sobbed. In front of everyone and he didn't care. His heart broke that day.
Drayce: This stone cold bastard doesn't cry. Well, he likes to believe that, anyway. In the eighteen years of his life his mates haven't seen him cry once. Not one time. He closes up and bottles everything inside and tends to come out in bursts of dry anger then sadness. That being said… when it comes to Willem, this boy would cry over him any day of the week - in private, of course. He has never sobbed per say, it's more silent tears that are easy to wipe away. Even though he doesn't express his feelings much Willem is the only one who can get him to open up and express any kind of emotion apart from anger. If it came down to it, he would be comfortable truly sobbing in front of the other boy, even if he would find it embarrassing.
Elio: Elio is a major goof. He's an emotional wreck and wears his heart on his sleeve to the point where it might be a problem (and something the boys have told him he needs to keep in check sometimes). He cries over everything. Books, memories, a lady giving him a compliment, boys, his family, his mates, everything. It's something he is trying to control but he never really has been very good at keeping his emotions in line. He will cry in front of anyone and he doesn't care who sees or who judges him. If he's crying he's crying and this boy does not give a single fuck who sees. It comes in handy on missions sometimes and even though Drayce and Aston criticize him for it, it really is something they love him for.
Aston: Much like Drayce, Aston tries not to show his emotions a lot. He is a level headed guy and is more logical then emotional, doesn't let his heart lead him all too often. Even though he doesn't let his emotions out, when him and the guys are having a good time and he can let loose, he will happily let them see his emotional side. When it comes to crying, he doesn't cry often. The main people he would cry over is his Mama and his baby sister (oh and the boys but don't tell them that). Tries to cry in private if he does get a random burst of emotions but he would be comfortable crying around his Mama, sister and the guys if he was comfortable in the situation and it was a big enough problem.

Peregrine: Peregrine can't remember when she's cried last. She's usually a very distanced person, but when she's sad, she's more touchy-feely than before. Not much would break her, but if one of her fathers was killed, she'd certainly break. She thinks about that possibility often, but usually dismisses those thoughts, telling herself that they're much too strong to die.

@kingnocedas group

kacey: she's the crybaby of the trio. sad movies, happy movies, dog commercials, she'll be in a flood of tears. she doesn't care who sees her cry, and (for lack of a better word) she's an ugly crier. she's loud, snotty and she doesn't give two shits. she cries and cries until she's let it all out, and usually quickly returns to normal.
nabila: she never ever lets people see her cry. it's not that she suppresses her emotions, she just waits until she's truly alone to cry. whether that's in the night, or in a toilet cubicle, as long as nabila's by herself she'll cry.
karuko: as the funny one of the group, karuko is never seen crying unless it's from laughter. the girls have only seen karuko cry once in their lives, and she was heartbroken.when she cries she gets angry, and when she gets angry she cries. she says some truly scathing things, but only because she's extremely emotional at the time.
