Suppose a couple have been together for a while (3 years). They love and care for each other very much, and the man decides one day to propose to the woman. What are some reasons she could refuse?

She's having an affair
she thinks he's having a affair
she's pregnant
She doesn't think she's good enough
etc.
Maybe trust issues? Like, she thinks the man is amazing and stuff but doesn't think she could keep up with his standards or something
Or just being a pessimist?
-She thinks he's cheating
-She knows that he's hiding a dark past
-She knows he's not going to make a good father (if she has a kid)
-She's not ready for a relationship because she's had a sad history and has trust issues
She was playing him the whole time.
Not ready for commitment.
Yea also she could have a secret disease and knows that she's going to die in like a year. Obviously, she doesn't want to break his heart, so she refuses him before he can think that they're going to have a future together, only to lose her.
She doesn't want to mary because it costs a lot of money and you don't really gain any benefits afterwards compared to the relationship before marriage depending on how traditional you are.
Yeah, honestly. Have her not completely sold on the idea of marriage, saying it just seems like a waste of money and time. Have her scorn marriages she's seen end in divorce –maybe her parents were miserable but took forever for them to get a divorce because marriages are messy and someone benefits more from the union than someone else. Maybe she sees marriage as a scam and she's scared of falling out of love and having to deal with the repurcussions of the marriage/ eventual divorce.
Maybe he wants kids and she doesn't want to tell him that she can't have/doesn't want kids. (Or, of course, it could be the other way around.)

That's the more extreme version of what I meant (it was more of a why would I marry? We're already living together and do everything a maried couple does but without the crazy expensive party and stuff) but that's sort of what I was going for.
