i tend to find making side characters tough, because naming is such an important process to me. so, i'm leaving some of the work up to anyone who has a character they'd like me to use, or who wants to make one specifically here.

they can be as detailed or vague as you want, and that'll vary how important they are to the story. some ideas are:

missing teen: the main plot of the story centers around the hunt for teens that have gone missing over a month/few weeks from a small town. they'll be found mostly safe and sound at the end, don't worry!

high schooler: you guessed it, just your regular old classmate. this is a private school, so maybe they're mentioned as coming from a lot of money, or for excelling in a class they share with one of the main characters! they could even be featured as a recurring character important to the happenings

adult: anywhere from a shopkeep, a teacher, or the owner of the local diner(only one of those, though, since that's where the kids hang out). make them helpful and friendly, or have them be tied to the wanna-be witch causing the problems in the story

a cryptid!: there will only be a couple of these, featured here and there and in side stories and drabbles. this is a realistic world featuring cryptid creatures and the occasional not-quite-normal human, like the main character's ability to see ghosts. it could be a mer-creature, since the town is settled near the ocean. it could be something lurking in the forest, good or bad or neutral or confused. it could even be a ghost!

I wanna do this!!!
I can make a cryptid and a missing teen?

@croccin-champagne

i would love that! i can't wait to see them!

i suppose i should mention, for anyone else interested, that there's only going to be a small handful of missing teens

Now onto the cryptid-

Was dubbed Fuzzy by a child like…. four hundred years ago, they kept the name becuase they might as well, they don't have any other name.
They're a genderless, ageless, entity of fear.
They're somewhat humanoid, theur covered in a thin layer of white and grey fur and they have large, fur covered wings (The wings vaguely resemble moth wings) They have super big eyes and have like… five eyes. two on each side of the face then a eye in the middle of their forehead. They have a pretty human mouth with shorp teeth
They pretty much stole an entire mall's worth of clothes and has clothes all over the forest hidden in trees and such.
They're petty and have no sense of bounderies, they'll essentially find a person they think is nice and kidnap them. They'll give the person back… in a day or two.

@croccin-champagne

i love both of them???? i can already imagine the return scene for the kidnapped kids, and imagining allie being suddenly swarmed by a group of her friends who are all crying in relief is so. pure. im crying

also fuzzy would make the best short story cryptid. do they talk at all?

@SpookyScarySnoteleks group

Alright, so I found a Picrew that I liked, so I made a cryptid based off of it:
完成画像
It's been dubbed Static, and although it dresses in traditionally 'feminine' colors, it prefers being called 'it'. Its head is a winged television, and it has long, slender arms and legs. It mainly steals electronics in large quantities, and is said to kidnap people with technology on them. If the victims are found, their gadgets are always broken or gone. The speaker part of the television has small, sharp teeth, and are said to be used to take power from electronics.

@croccin-champagne

oooo, i like it! does it operate in more crowded areas or prefer attacking lone people? would it enter homes or attack on the street, or does it wait for someone to wander close to wherever it is? and would you consider it more benevolent or malevolent?

@Althalosian-is-the-father book

Peter Cerf (Called Mr. Peter as often as not.)
Old man, wise eyes, kind heart, hidden secrets. Gray hair, polite and good natured and gentlemanly. Inclined to complain in a casual way about the state of things these days. Would die for a cause he saw fit. Possibly fought in a war. Definitely fought with other boys as a child but now tells children to find more peaceful routes. 50-65. Plays and instrument? Is always gone at a certain time and always says he was running errands even though he never brings anything back. Has friends in convenient and odd places. Has at least one person that would die for him because of something he did for that person when they were a child. Went to a college at one point. Jewish at least in blood.

Boom. Here's my random drop as it sputtered out of my brain.

Alrighty, meet Patience (Pait) Leal!
-Eccentric genius is the best way to describe her. Her family’s so insanely wealthy, but she doesn’t even care. Math is far more interesting.
-Outfits are best described as odd. Chunky sweaters, khakis, literal mom jeans, occasionally guilty of crocs with socks, etc. All thrift store finds.
-Obsessed with true crime. Knows all the major serial killers.
-Flighty, but nice. Her mind is on other things. Socially awkward but doesn’t give a rip about that!
-Would rather do 200 math problems than write a paper.
-Bad at public speaking. Not because she’s shy, but because she’s a verbal Niagara Falls.
-Doesn’t have many friends, but would die for them without hesitation.
-Introverted af.
-Messy ponytails and buns.

That’s all I’ve got so far!

@croccin-champagne

after double checking my class schedule notes i had made, i have to ask. would he be at all into teaching? and what would he be into teaching? also, he would make one hell of a guidance counselor too

I actually intended for Patience to be a student but she could totally work as a teacher in the highest math class at school!

oh! i meant dom's character, but if you thought that would work, it could. i have a character in advanced trig?

I'm assuming this is pointed to me. Do as you will with him. But I agree that he would be excellent in such positions.

@croccin-champagne

honestly guidance counselor it is. it'll let him be a guiding authority figure and jam out on whatever instruments he vibes with. i think he'd make one that teens could actually trust, which is a feat, at least imo

@CinnamonRoll

cracks knuckles o-KAY, let's make an overly detailed, annoying, hyper-posh high schooler who everyone hates!

I know NOTHING about how she would fit into the story, but I kinda want to design… like… the rival, you know?

Caroline Huan - 16/17 - Chinese-French-American - a literal legend

I'm thinking… black hair, ombre-dyed to a honey blonde, worn braided or otherwise held back. Her eyes are lighter, green or blue, inherited from her European mother's side. She looks very Chinese, so when she tells people she's half French, they're confused. This makes her angry (actually, a lot of things make her angry). She was spoiled silly until her junior year, when her father suddenly decided she should learn what the real world is like. She thinks she's better than everyone else, but she has to work a normal job (like at an ice cream parlor or something). During her time working, she's heard the stories of older employees struggling through life (e.g., one man who has a degree in biology but only manages the shop). This has made her incredibly afraid of her future. She's studied hard for years, but what if it means nothing? Deep down, the people that she meets at work are starting to soften her up, but her high-pressure family life undoes all that work when she goes home, leaving her confused. She still lashes out, trying to cling to the superiority she felt before. Now that she knows life doesn't depend on her test scores, she's looking for some higher calling in secret. Stuffed between Yale and Johns Hopkins pamphlets are informational letters from West Point, the Naval Academy, and even the Peace Corps. She would be amazing in military, since her upbringing gave her amazing organizational skills and the ability to think quickly on her feet. So I feel like a hunt for missing teens would be exactly the kind of thing to spark her interest, but it would take a while for her to finally let down her angry, standoffish exterior and accept that she's not better than everyone else and really just needs to be there to help, not to lead.

WOW I got carried away. Anyway, enjoy! :DD

@croccin-champagne

oh my gosh??????? i adore her???? honestly, i think she would make a great recurring character who started out as sort of the 'alright, listen up, nobody is getting in my way' trope and ended up helping out the main characters. she's right around their age, so she'd be dealing with that fear around the time of the main events, and i can see them meeting at whatever place she works at on different footing from their first meetings. now i'm getting incredibly carried away, but she just. has an incredible amount of potential and now i want to give her an arc too hdghsgh

Awesome. I feel like he would be a flute or violin kind of guy. Like a chill kind of intense. Not a guitar. definitely not electric guitar.
Btw thanks. It made me think enough to make Nathaniel's boss. (Newly named Issac Booker.)

i can picture a student walking into his room for a session and he's just chilling by his desk, playing the violin as though he's not actively working

oh?

Fuzzy doesn't really talk, in a physical sense, ut they do have that good good brain connection.
