If you need to kill off a character during a big conflict, you could go the Kingsman route, where someone was killed simply because the villain didn't waste any time. He even said "You think this is like one of those spy movies where I go on a long, drawn-out explanation of my plan while you have time to make your escape. Well, this ain't that kinda movie." BANG!
