Sorry for asking again, but after the other piece of art, I wanted to see if you could draw my other character, Ria. You can totally put other people who haven't gotten a piece of art before me. https://www.notebook.ai/plan/characters/676863#

literally 2 months later
I finally got around to this! (sorry to keep reviving this dead thread, btw. I couldn't pm you…)
It's just a random sketch and the style is quite different from Tanaya since I didn't have nearly as much time as I did for her, but I hope you like it?

I also have a random request for you - I'm starting up an Instagram account where I'd like to post my art, but looking back on this year I realised that I've mainly drawn characters for people on notebook (such as Tanaya or now Ria). Do you think you'd be alright with having images of your characters up on the interwebs (with credit to you as the creator, obviously)? It's totally fine if you say no, just wanted to run that by you…
anyway
time for me to disappear back into my hobbit hole for another few months haha

OH MY GOSH, THIS IS SO AMAZINGGGG!!! Thank you so much! You are such a great artist!

Also, it would be completely fine with me for you to use the drawings of my characters! :)

Thanks again! I love it so much!

Hey, @ninja_violinist I'm back… Um so I can't find anyone else who's art is similar to yours and that doesn't charge me prices for their art, so I was wondering if you'd be up to doing some more of my characters! I love your art and I don't want to spend like $15 dollars on a small piece of art that I'll probably use once, the other people I asked didn't seem to know what 'just for fun' might, so I've come back to you because I KNOW your art is good and I KNOW it'll be just what I'm looking for.

@ninja_violinist

(Hey so I took my time responding to this… because I want to say something, but I don't want to be rude about it, so I just haven't said anything which I guess isn't really a solution either. So here we go.)
First, to answer your question - I'm not really looking to do more at the moment, tbh. It was fun for a bit but I'd prefer to invest my time into more personal projects and maybe some other people's characters on this site. I hope you understand! If that ever changes, I'll be sure to let you know!

Second, a small PSA that's absolutely not meant to be rude or condescending but it's also important that you understand this for future reference. I guess it's like a netiquette thing or something, or just human etiquette in general. I'm not angry or offended, and I hope the way I say it doesn't make you angry or offended either.

Here's the thing:
It is absolutely valid for artists to charge you money for their work.
I personally choose not to, but that doesn't mean that other artists can't, or that… idk, that somehow me not charging for my art means that other artists shouldn't either.
I'd also like to politely clarify that an artwork's worth isn't determined by what you use it for. It's determined by the artist, for the effort they put into the project, for their time, for their hard work and energy and everything else. You wouldn't go into a store and tell the clerk that "it's just a small shirt that I'm going to wear once, so it shouldn't cost anything". I also think it's kind of unfair of you to ask other artists to put a lot of time and effort into your project "just for fun". For some perspective, the drawings I did for you took several hours each, probably between the 5 to 7 hour range (much longer if I changed stuff or if it didn't match your vision). That's not meant to be a guilt trip or anything, I was happy to do it, but can you see how it's just a little rude to ask people to do all that and when they ask to be compensated (often it's literally their career), tell them "oh just do it for fun"?

Again, I personally don't charge people for my art. But that doesn't mean that other artists at my skill level can't or shouldn't. Art isn't a given; it's not something that anyone owes you or that you have an inherent right to. It's a service that artists provide for other people, and as such they should be allowed to decide its value.

~This has been a PSA~
