I don’t full on cry, but I do get that sad feeling.

I killed the protagonist of my first book in a trilogy once. Either way he wasn’t gonna make it to the second book considering that he’s human, and the second book takes place several centuries after the first. Protag’s death was by a random bullet, maybe from the enemy, maybe from one of his own allies, just as he was about to be free from war for at least a few years. Shot turned out to be fatal.

The series in itself does have a lot of deaths. Not all of the time, but it does take place during a war, so you’ve gotta expect that.

I’ve got antags i’ve killed and felt bad for. Sinistra’s inevitable end? I feel sad about it.

Ironically I'm on this page after having the sweetest character in a story break his arm after falling from a tree (he lives, but he probably is screwed for his career because medical tech isn't great in this one and he's in the middle of the woods)

@HighPockets group

Sick DEH reference but no he fell. The branch he was on broke and so did his arm. Then his gf had to make a splint with some sticks but he probably won't be able to write with that hand anymore which sucks because he's a bookkeeper

Flozz

Not really as I like my readers to feel the pain the characters are feeling. But sometimes I do because I feel like I have bonded with that character.

Jesus Christ! Thank You so much for making this page (つ﹏<。). Can I just vent to you all for a moment? I'm sorry if this is taking up your time…

So…. I just finished writing my 3 Book series called Creekmouth, and I have gotten super depresso espresso after killing one of my favourite characters (Something which my readers haven't seemed to have gotten over yet), and I can't believe that I decided to myself "Yep, this seems like a good idea." Like, don't get me wrong, the inner me inside know that it had to be done… but….. it still hurts a little… and knowing that it isn't a happy ending is still kinda gut punching for me… even as the author.

So… to explain this as best I can without going over to much details, Creekmouth is this urban fantasy series about this group of local kids, discovering a demonic cultist (Who worship and evil monster called the Shape) underneath their sleepy New Zealand town. No one is safe and No one can be trusted.

Essentially, one of the kids (Out of the main 6 characters) Nikolai Babcock, is this Jaded and Sarcastic Emo who's usually negative and cruel to his mates, The Maori kid Caleb Turei (Also the main character), Jess Lau, and M.j Wright. All this negative attitude is due to a horrible relationship Nikolai has with his parents, and he unknowingly is lashing out on them as a coping mechanism. This all changes when one day, he stumbles into this precious, pudgy, red haired boy called Benji Pocket. Nikolai, immediately develops a closeted crush on this kid, and Benji is to innocent to figure out any of his advances. The Entirety of the first book is Nikolai concealing his feelings for Benji, and when his friends find out they promise to keep it a secret……. Until Nikolai's life is on the line……

The monster, 'The Shape', is an invisible being that can possess people's minds when he grasps onto you, taking over you body and attacking your allies. At one point Nikolai gets possessed, and everybody has to hold him down to try and stop him from killing everyone… or worse… the shape killing Nikolai from the inside…. It's at that moment they realise that the only way they'll be able to save him, is by waking him up with something that will bring joy (As they tried knocking him out and nothing worked), and what better way to do that then to get Benji to kiss him. So with some coaxing.. Benji does…… only it's one way… Benji knows they kissed… but Nikolai is still unaware…. But anyways, Nikolai is saved, and the two of them (After helping kill one of the cult head leaders) Become closer as friends…

By book 2, Benji still hasn't lost his childlike nature and is still really cute and sweet to the rest of the cast. Despite Nikolai and Benji now officially dating, Nikolai still thinks they haven't had their first kiss yet. Then when the Cultists rise again, Benji is shot chest by a bullet to the chest, and the rest of the character have to take him to the healing fountain (A cultist relic that they have taken) and try to pour sanitatem water onto his dead body to revive him. Only a single drop from the tap, spreads onto his wound…. It's all dried up…. they have used all of it…. Thinking that he's dead, everyone starts to cry… until slowly… his eyes flicker…. and Benji wakes up to see Nikolai over him. Nikolai overjoyed, hugs Benji tightly, and Benji grabs him by the shirt and pushes him in for their first mutual kiss. After that, they help support Caleb in killing the Shape and leaving the Cultists to run away, with their deity defeated.

By Book 3…. things get dark….. having lost their families… their allies….. their friends…. its just the last of the kids are standing alone against a world that's out to get them. Killing the Shape, actually alerted a bigger threat, a God called The Phantom Queen, a entity that plans on decaying the very earth. The Cultist army has now grown in numbers, and they capture Nikolai, Jess, M.j, Jasmine and Benji to be used as a sacrifice for their new Goddess. They banish them to the nether world, a alternate reality earth where everything is either dead or dying. After battling with some Nether monsters and Cultists…… Nikolai suffers a severe stab wound…. Benji is lying over Nikolai's dying body, telling him that everything is going to be fine….. But Nikolai just caresses his hand down Benji's face and hands him the gun that he had been holding onto him… Benji starts crying saying that he's not going to let him die like this… but Nikolai says that, out of love, he should be the one to pull the trigger…. Here are his words.

"Benji…. It's because of you.. that I have gotten this far …. and there is not a second in our time together that I would have gotten rid of…. You have given me happiness, that I would have never thought possible…….You saved my life… he pulls the gun that Benji is holding closer to his chest….. so I would be more than happy ….. if you were the one to end it…."

Its at this point Benji starts bawling, shaking his head and mumbling "don't do it"…. but Nikolai is counting down.. a finger on the trigger Benji is also grasping…

1….

2…..

3……

BANG!!!

Benji stares, dumbstruck by what just happened….. and he has to get dragged by M.j and Jasmine (Who spot some cultist's on the horizon) in order to pull him to safety….. they leave his body… to rot in the Nether….

The story concludes with Caleb, talking to The Phantom Queen (Looming menacingly in the sky) on top of a mountain, trying to get her to change her ways. This is what the scene looks like…

(Not my Art! Credits should all go towards Alena Aenami, who I highly recommend you go check out)

After a long while of to her (With a small fight scene in between) The Phantom Queen senses Caleb's unbreakable Will and Determination to right the wrongs… and she vanishes without a trace…. letting Caleb's friend float down from the sky… and right into his arms for a group hug…. without Nikolai…

It ends with them all standing at the beach and looking at the sunrise….. hoping that the future is bright….

Soooooooooo….. sorry if this was boring to you guys… I have been reading a lot of your stories and they sound heart-breakingly awesome. In conclusion, It is because of Benji that Nikolai was able to find the happiness that he so desperately needed, so when it came down to it, he thought it best if he could spend his last happy moment with him.

I don't know whether or not I should make a forth book, and Nikolai could come back as a Nether monster or something but all I know is that killing him off, hurt me so bad. I didn't want to do it, but I knew that I didn't want it to be a happy ending either…. I is very sad :( ….

Anyways… thank you so much for reading this and letting me vent to you :D… I hoped you liked my little story.

Cheers and Bye ´・ᴗ・` - Sunny

Can't speak for everyone else, but I didn't find it boring. Your story sounds awesome :)

@Reblod flag

Yes, an awesome story but also a depressing death. Not even a grave to go to. I mean…at least my characters get proper graves…which gives me some new ideas to make deaths even more sad
