Look at any nearby furniture/object/animal/anything else that isn't human or already a character and make a character out of it. Describe them as much as possible physically, mentally, and personality. They can be any sort of race, but please don't just say "Oh this remote talks, but it still looks like a remote."
It can be in scene form, paragraph form, or chopped up thoughts form.Examples of the forms:
Scene: Her eyes were navy blue, dark and unemotional like the night sky without stars. She stared right through me. She has always been a cold person, but I still believe I can get through to her.
Paragraph: Mel is a human girl, based off of a table. Her hair and eyes are the same oak brown, and they always make her seem bored or bland. She loves staying inside, staring at the table as her mind takes over.
Chopped: Obsidian is based off my cat. Neko, so cat ears and tail. Short black hair. Toxic green eyes. Hates the outdoors. Stranger danger.
Don't be afraid to share. Sometimes they can be very strange, but most of the time it gives you a unique character. I've done this several times. I'll do a new one in the comments as an example. Have fun!
Anne Watson is based off of a root beer. She is human. Her hair is dark brown and reaches midway down her back when straightened. Most of the time, her hair is a fluffy mess of small curls. Her eyes are a faint caramel brown, much darker around the edges to keep the iris separate from the rest. She is mixed, her mother being white and her dad black. She wears a white t-shirt with her initials, AW, on it in dark brown letters. She wears black leggings and a jean jacket. Black converse adorn her feet. She has a bubbly, friendly personality. She's a super fun party goer, but small get togethers work too.
(This is all I came up with; I used paragraph form. Feel free to use this as an example to help you make yours.)
Okay Imma do it:
Billy is based off of a hardcover copy of many Mark Twain books in one volume. The volume is decorated with dark reddish-brown, orange, and yellow. Billy has reddish-brown eyes, bright orange hair, and likes to wear yellow just to make people's eyes hurt. He has a pale but smooth complexion (no freckles), a sharp nose, and a big smile. He loves to read books when he's not tromping around the countryside, and his favorite author is, you guessed it, Mark Twain.
@Masterkey That's an interesting character. I even picked up on a bit of personality. Also, thank you for participating!
Do stuffed animals and dolls count? I thought it would be fun to personify my oldest stuffed animal.
Magic is a benevolent, ethereal dragon. Small, plush, and round, he doesn't share much in common with others of his kind. Instead of scales, he has pearlescent fur with flecks of glitter. Instead of horns, he has small rounded ears. He has the snout of a pony, wings of a bird, and where most dragons bear claws, he has short stubby legs and fluffy paws resembling hooves. Even his spikes - his most threatening feature - are flexible and rounded at the tips.
Despite his innocent appearance, Magic is the oldest of his kind; a gentle guardian to all who inhabit his domain. He's a wise storyteller with a talent for patience in place of fire. As a creature of the sky, he carries himself with unmatched weightlessness. Slow-moving, fluffy, pudgy, and white, Magic is more like a cloud than a ferocious creature to slay. Still, magic is a dragon. He enjoys long naps, high places, and he'd never say no to a princess.
For anyone who's curious, he's a beanie baby: https://i.pinimg.com/originals/46/13/88/46138816bfab9ef3228d3ac0f80e1038.jpg
Her tar-coloured hair is glossy and drips down her back in long strands, her eyes like ink on soft paper: black, with the possibility of destroying anything they gaze upon. Her lips are painted to resemble the night sky and a choker the colour of death hugs her throat.
When she smiles there is no warmth and her words can cut through anyone walls, reducing them to rubble. It's because of this blank-paper persona, that she has been isolated in her dance classes; though everyone knows its also because her body can move in ways theirs can't.
After dance, an air of icy threat hangs over her head; a protective barrier against the rest of the world as she loses her self in her art, the weight of her sketchbook a comfort as the paper digs into her skin.
The girl appears to be made of sharp edges, gentle shadows and harsh lighting. Her milky white skin smooth and clean, no freckles or scars or bruises to ruin the paper-like perfection of her body and from afar she is impossible to touch: the very idea of approaching her as she mutters softly to herself in German, of holding her black-nailed hands and damaging them, is enough to want to look away.
To turn your back and leave the ever-so-small art store you have found yourself in.
But the shine to her hair, and the curve of her legs and the professionalism of her stance is enough to have you running back in, even just to catch another glimpse of the girl who is made of ink.
Her name is Pippa and she holds a set of Faber-Castell Manga pens, the very pens she has been based off of.
@Minette Yes, stuff animals and dolls count. I do that all the time. I love yours. Thank you for participating!
@imjustshy Wow, that was really, really good. Plus, I'm going to count this as using the scene form, since we got other people's opinions of her as well. She's really cool. Thank you for participating!
Her hair, black as night that extended to her waist, glowed in the moonlight. She was excited and she was waiting for someone as well as praying that no one would would notice her, though it was easy to, after all her skin was gold. It shined under the moon, which highlighted all the cracks throughout her skin. Her name was Kula, and she was sitting under a bush, waiting for her ex-boyfriend who'd promised he would love her this time. But she knew he wouldn't. Kula was a thing to be chased after, until she was forgotten and pushed away until the next time he said he wanted her back. The worst part was that she kept letting him back into her life. And one of these days, he would break her heart into too many pieces and he'd leave her forever. Kula's tail swished nervously, and the blue feathers at the end kept getting tangled in the bushes. She heard a voice and her blue eyes lit up.
Kula is based off of a branch that I painted gold and attached a piece string with a blue feather tied to the end to be a cat toy for my cat.
Mimio is based off of a potato.
He looks human, with all the right human features, except you can clearly see he's a human potato. He's very fat, he's the color of a potato, with dark brown eyes and sandy-colored hair. Is very shy and afraid of other people, which describes a potato afraid to be eaten. His brain is made of mashed potatoes and he has dyslexia (inability to read), and is very lazy (couch potato. Get it?)
@Nerd Interesting. I like it. Thank you for participating!
@Celina Qu That one's ppretty good. Would it be bad to want to laugh a little bit? I mean, it's just something about potatoes for some reason. Thanks for participating.
My sister's arithmetic book:
Mr. Glencoe is a very stout man. He has a hideous orange suit with an equally garish pair of bright magenta pants. He, unsurprisingly, is a math teacher. He has a pair of thick glasses and is balding. He thinks he's a fun teacher but everyone finds his classes ridiculously boring.
@"Shadow of the Elements" I love him. I can picture him and sitting in his class. Thank you for participating!
Cecilia, the humanized version of a plastic water bottle.
Her hair is a short, platinum bob with blue highlights and her skin is very pale. Her facial features are sharp and perky, her eyes are blue-gray, and she's small and skinny. She wears an ombre blue crop top and short white shorts either with flip flops or white converse. She can often be seen with aviator sunglasses and her natural habitat is the beach. She's of average intelligence but very funny. She's agile and limber and she's a skilled gymnast. One day she hopes to be in the Olympics.
@"Broken Princess" That one was good. I was expecting her to be quiet and cute at first, but then she turned out to be a beach girl. I really liked that. Thanks for participating!
@"Isabel Thanks! This was fun!
Laura, the humanized piano. She wears a mahogany sweater and pants, the same color as a piano, with the swirly gold letter things you find above the center of the cover of the piano, printed on her sweater (upper chest). She has dark, red-tinted skin and hair, and always wears white fingerless gloves and black nail polish (piano keys!). She loves music,
(this is so fun!)
Thanks! I love stuff like this :D
@TopazWyrmlet~ That one's good too. Thanks for participating!
@Minette I didn’t even need to click the link, since I have the same beanie baby :p
Odette is based off of a blanket. Her favorite thing to do is curl up in bed and read a book on a cold night. She has piercing aqua eyes, and she dyes her naturally blonde hair to match. Her most worn outfit is a bluish green, fluffy, oversized sweater that matches her puffy boots and white leggings. Odette enjoys indoors and sleeps quite a lot.
@snowflake_castiel She sounds adorable! Thanks for participating!
Marina, humanized version of my acoustic guitar. (I actually named her Marina when I got her)
She had a long figure that was filled out like an hour glass (Shape of the guitar). Medium width shoulders that tightened at the waist only to spread out at her hips. Her blue eyes lived up to her name, as they looked like the color of the ocean on a very sunny day. The color popped against the pale color of her skin (White guitar with a border of a bluish green) . Every thing about her said she was cold and mean, but she spoke very warm and deeply (Sounds produced). One shoulder was out and up more as she posed her hand on her hip, and the other shoulder slouched an loose like she was posing on a runway (The top part of the body are un even on the guitar) . She had a long neck (Neck of guitar, duh) that accentuated her long rectangle head( head of guitar) that seemed to fit her body.
Uh oh. Whenever this happens, I HAVE to write a story about them, and I already have wayyy too many stories in my head lol. But idc because I love stuff like this!!!
BLANCA
Born white as snow, soft, and new.
Blanca is the fixer. She lives to erase the effect of others' sins, or sins themselves.
It seems that her job is neverending, alcoholic mother draining the till, abusive father beating his child, drunk preteen crying her heart out, sick toddler coughing sticky blood up, hurtful, hurting, hurt people, neverending sins.
She softens the harsh dark marks of life on people and erases their pain, but as she fixes, she wears away. Giving and giving and fixing and fixing turns her to nothing. Why? She becomes nothing to give hope and a white bright future.
Giving them a clean slate each morning she sits there hoping that one day, one day, they'll see it, their snow clean slate, and think to themselves, "Maybe I can create something beautiful today."
Yeah, Blanca's inspired by my eraser lol.
@imjustshy WOW. That was pure poetry. I want to hold those words close to my heart forever. I love it!!
