Anyone else who just loves these books? I can’t be the only one…
Duuuude I've heard so much about these book series by a booktuber and I really wanna get them to read it but I'm broke as of now lmao
They are amazing!! I really hope you get to read them, tell me what you think of them when you do!
Yeah, I hope i can save up enough
And will do my dude~
I read them a while ago and I remember really loving the writing, especially the narrator's voice in the first book. Though I didn't like all the content I was always there for the beautiful way it was told
Yeah, I know! The way she writes is amazing! I especially love her descriptions of feelings and emotions… which book in the series is your favourite?
I'd probably say the first book. I loved her characterisation and the way the story was told in the beginning.
One of my main issues with the books is the romance, so I remember just skimming through most of book 2 because of all the awkward… ~intimacy~
How about you?
I actually liked the romance part. I would say that the third book is the best, because I love the character development of Aaron Warner. I also love how Kenji developes as a character, going from the guy who just jokes around all the time to actually being really caring and a great character… who is your favourite character?
True, Warner has pretty cool development!
My favorite would probably also be Kenji. He tells it like it is and I appreciate that
Yeah, he's great. What do you think of Adam in the second and third book? I kinda liked him in the first book but later I think he just got annoying and a bit… selfish, maybe?
Oh yeah Adam was genuinely Not Cool
The only thing I liked about him was his relationship with his brother
Yeah, and James is freaking awesome! I kinda liked Adam in the first book, but in the second and third he just became a real jerk. Like when he after the war threw Juliette out of his house… not cool.
Wich is your favourite scene though? Mine is probably when they are at Adams house in the third book and they argue about talking when they are going to sleep and they talk about Brendan kicking people in the face… I have only read the books in swedish so I don’t know if the scene is any different in english but for some reason I just find that scene hilarious! Even though it is a really short scene that doesn’t really mean that much to the story it is still really good…
Huh, I've never really thought about a favorite scene before, to be honest.
I'd probably also say the very beginning, actually. Like, when she's still locked up by herself and contemplating the world. The writing in that part was fabulous. Though I guess not that much happened at all.
Do you think if you had the opportunity you would reread the books in English, or would you just stick to Swedish? I find that sometimes when I start out a book series in one language, the switch to the other can be difficult.
You are absolutely right, the writing in that part is outstanding!
I would defintely reread them in english if I got the chance. With any other book I am not as sure that I would, but since the language is so special and such a big part of the experience while reading this book I would really like to read it in the language it was originally written in. This book was actually what inspired me to start writing. I have always loved writing, but it was first after reading these books that I started writing longer stories and finding my own voice when it comes to writing.
Did you read them in english or did you read them in another language? The titles are actually changed in the swedish version. For example, ’Unravel me’ is called ’Rädda mig inte’ in swedish with the ’inte’ overlined, wich directly translates to ’Do not save me’ with the ’not’ overlined. In case you didn’t read them in english, what are they called in the language you read them in?
Also, if they were made into a movie, who do you think should play the different characters? I saw a lot of posts with dream casts for the books, and some of them I agree with. I think that Shailene Woodley or maybe Lily Collins should play Juliette… what do you think?
That's super cool though, that you were inspired by it! I know I definitely got a lot more into that sort of contemplative, character-driven narration because of it.
I originally read the books in English, thankfully - I'm not sure if I would have liked a translation as much. The titles in German literally translate to: "I fear myself" (Shatter me), "Save me from you" (Unravel me), and "I burn for you" (Ignite me) which is… not promising
I'm actually not sure how much I would enjoy a movie of these books, to be honest. I feel like so much of it happens inside Juliette's head and depends so heavily on her perspective that I'm not sure if it would translate well onscreen. I guess since I liked the writing and the characterisation most of all in the books, I'm not sure how much I would enjoy the movie since both of those things would get a bit lost
idk, I guess it's kind of like the Hunger Games. Absolutely stunning book, and a really good movie too, but you miss out so much because you're not inside Katniss' head for the movie.
Well, yeah, now that you say it a movie would probably not be by far as good as the book. But still, I would like to find out what it would be like. Even if it wouldn’t be the same as the book, maybe a movie with a narrator voice telling Juliettes thoughts might be cool? Or maybe it would just be annoying haha…
In Swedish, the other books translates to ”Don’t touch me” (Shatter me) and ”Set me on fire” (Ignite me).
This doesn’t really have to do with the books, but are you from Germany, since you mentioned German? I actually speak a bit German haha…
Yep! I am indeed German
(we Europeans number very few on this site so no one's really on that much during our time zone)
(I'm just assuming you recently found the forums because I haven't seen you around before, but I could be wrong)
Yeah, I found it from a post on Pinterest about six months ago, but I didn’t really start to use it until a couple of weeks ago
Hey, that's funny - I also found it through Pinterest!
Nice, what’s your username on Pinterest?
I get if you don’t wanna tell, but it would be fun to follow you there since you seem like a really nice person
Oh that's really nice of you to say!
I'm not sure if there'd be any point following me since I actually don't pin much. I kind of just use Pinterest to send my friend memes and look up art references. But I'd be happy to follow you if you'd like me to!
Yeah, sure! My username is the same as my name on this site, Alex Kobbmark.
Cool, I just followed you
Nice, thanks!
