I've heard of it as well. There's a youtuber that I like (InsaneReader) who talked about it in one of his videos. He has a longer review of it but I haven't watched it yet because it's like 45 minutes. It sounds pretty awful lol.

I mean, one third of the love triangle is a guy named Clark Kent. CLARK. KENT.

I'm not entirely sure but apparently it was a really bad movie that tanked everywhere.

But it was based on a book that's always in stock at my local Target!

What’s The Room?

It's a movie that's basically just famous for how awful it was. The plot made no sense, the acting was awful (I watched it with my friend and she compared the acting to a high school drama class improv session). It was released in 2003, but it looks like it was filmed in the 70s because the special effects are that bad. If you want to see what I'm talking about, here's a short clip: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aekfPU0SwNw

Basically the only thing that makes this movie worth watching is that it's so bad that it's unintentionally hilarious.
(If you've ever seen the movie the Disaster Artist it's a movie about the making of The Room)

That's an insult to high school improv teams

That's an insult to high school improv teams

To be fail, my high school never had an improv team. What my friend was describing was people who took drama class for an easy A, and couldn't care less about the course content trying to do improv.

Ah. My sister's in middle school and used to be on an improv team, and a lot of my friends were because of a program called Destination Imagination that we had. I was in Engineering and Fine Arts myself.

IS THIS WHERE I MENTIONED HANDBOOK FOR MORTALS??
I was at Half-Price books today and they had a copy, so I flipped through it and it was signed?? Twice?? By the author?? The person she signed it to was scribbled out in Sharpie, so I'm guessing the book's owner wasn't thrilled with the scamming….

Since this thread got revived, I'd like to take a moment to tell you guys all about the book I'm currently reading. It's called "Then She Was Gone" by Lisa Jewell. It's about a mother whose daughter goes missing and then she meets this guy who has a daughter who looks just like her daughter that went missing. I'm about halfway through the book, and here's all the reason why I'm hating it (so far):

  • Main character is the worst. She's so negative all the time and there was one point where she wished that her older daughter could have been to go missing? Like what kind of mother are you?
  • It's supposed to be a mystery, but it's just so predictable. I guessed who kidnapped the daughter 70 pages in (not even exaggerating). I know I'm not done the book yet but based on a) the direction the story is currently going and b) some reviews I've read, I can safely say I'm about 98% certain I know how this book ends.
  • You know that post I made in the "things you want less of in books" thread about wanting less children who speak like adults? That's this book.
  • The love interest and his daughter are literally perfect. I keep getting told how he's so good looking, and she's so intelligent, etc. but haven't seen any kind of flaws yet.
  • Info dumping. Info dumping everywhere!
  • There's a scene where the love interest's older daughter mentions that she's seeing a man who is both way older than her and married. I hate this, but what makes it even worse is that her father and the MC are way too ok with it. I feel like what I'm supposed to be taking away from this scene is something along the lines of "Oooh MC and Love Interest are so kind and understanding. They're so accepting! What amazing people they are!" Just saying if I ever got into a relationship with a 49 year old married man, I hope my parents would kick my ass because that's DISGUSTING AND WRONG.

I feel like there's more, honestly. I was going to DNF it but now I'm kind of at a point where I'm like "might as well finish this."

Overrated Books

Graceling Realm/Kristin Cashore: Feminism at it's worst; annoying mc
Strange the Dreamer/Laini Taylor: Shthole romance; slow plot
Little Brother/Cory Doctorow: Shtty characterization; long pages of lecturing; MPDG
Paper Towns/John Green: Horribly unrealistic; boring; MPDG
The Fault in Our Stars/John Green: Unemotional (ironically); bad characterization

@Starfast group

^ Oh my god I freaking hated Graceling. I mentioned it in a previous post in this thread, but what I neglected to bring up was that I brought that book on a trip to Europe with the intention of reading it on long train/plane rides. I hardly ever touched it because turns out I'd rather stare out the window of a train and zone out for six hours than read that stupid book.
