Silver took a breath to speak, then paused and crossed her arms. "Gabe. I don't know if leaving is actually possible right now. And I won't leave without you anyway. If I can make it out somehow then so can you."
Silver took a breath to speak, then paused and crossed her arms. "Gabe. I don't know if leaving is actually possible right now. And I won't leave without you anyway. If I can make it out somehow then so can you."
Gabriel flips his dagger out, running towards Silver, but passes her. He jabs it into the window and the glass shatters around it. He turns and glares.
“Leave. They’ll erase you, Silver. Leave.”
Silver's mouth dropped open. Her first instinct was to shriek at him as the glass exploded around him. It rained over his arms and his legs and she could feel the tiny abrasions in his skin.
"Gabriel–" she gasped. She spun, searching the room, looking for cameras. He was going to get in so. much. trouble.
"Gabe," she gasped, turning back to him. "I won't–I can't–" her heart raced in her ears and her head got light. "You have to come with me. Come on. If I leave you have to come with me. They'll kill you for letting me go anyway. I can't leave you here."
Gabriel, obviously irritated, pulls his pant leg up a bit so she can see his ankle. A metal anklet is around it.
“I cant leave! Get out now, Silver!”
He stands back up and takes her hand, “come on. Go.”
Silver's heart stopped as her gaze landed on the band around his leg. She couldn't move, couldn't think.
Gabe was stuck. He couldn't leave. Like an invisible chain held him down. She came here to rescue him and she couldn't do anything.
But if she left it would only get worse for him.
Time started again and she gasped for breath, nearly hyperventilating. Tears stung her eyes and dripped down her cheeks as she finally looked back up at his face. Her chest felt like it was collapsing. Sobs choked her and she ran to him, throwing her arms around his neck and squeezing him as tight as she could.
"I'm sorry, I'm so sorry. I came here to help and I know I made it worse for you." she cried into his shoulder. "I'll go now but I promise I'll come back for you." her sobs shook her entire body and she struggled to not fall when she pulled away from him. "I promise I'll come back."
She paused for a moment, torn, and then hastily pressed her lips against his cheek, holding him tight for one more second, and then leaped up into the window, squeezing herself through the hole. She felt the glass cut across her feathers and smelled her own blood, but the pain in her heart drowned out anything her wings might have felt.
Alarms ring out through the halls and the door bursts open. A tall, dark guard stands there, ready to fight.
“Dangit, Bird! What have you done?” He runs to the window towards sil, a knife out, but Gabriel grabs him, holding him back with a knife pressed against his neck.
“Go!” He shouts to Silver.
The other guards shout down the hall to let out Cove, send her around the the east wing.
Silver burst out of the hole and spun, seeing Gabriel locked in combat with a guard. She set her teeth and clenched her fists. Pumping her wings, she stayed in midair, hovering a few yards from the window. She knew she should just leave but she couldn't let Gabe fight on his own. Taking a deep breath, she threw up a barrier around Gabe and turned all of her energy against the remaining glass in the window, letting it build until it exploded, the whole force of the burst directed toward the guard.
Gabriel shouts something as Silver puts up the barrier around him. He clenches his teeth and death glares at her. He closes his eyes for a moment, focusing his strength, and breaks the barrier. He immediately heads out the window, spreading his wings but stay close up against the building.
“Don’t you dare!” He shouts.
Kissa floats effortlessly behind Silver, looking rather bored.
“I dare.” She states quietly.
She pulls up an invisible barrier around Silver.
Silver whirled around and caught sight of Kissa just as she felt the silence swallow her up. She didn't need to find the wall to know what Kissa had done. Rage heating her veins, she searched to find what size it was, how much room Kissa had given her, and fought to see if she had any control outside of it.
Kissa felt Silver struggle, testing the limits of the box, and her hands started to shake just a bit from the power she was using.
“Get her already!” She shrieks.
One guard jet packs up from the ground below them, entering the box with Sil while Kiss made a small hole for him.
“Stay still and this won’t hurt.” He growls, nearing her with a syringe.
Silver eased away from him, though there wasn't much room in the small confines of the box. Panic started to rise in her chest, but then an idea came to her. She took a deep breath and clenched her fists, gathering her energy and expanding it within the box until it felt like a physical force. It threw the guard against the barrier and shattered the syringe, but she didn't stop. For once Silver had absolutely no reason to try and control her power so she let it build and build and build, constrained only by Kissa's box and whatever strength the other girl had.
Kissa shrieks.
“Get her out of here before I let go!” She breaks out sweating and starts to breathe harder.
“Kiss, let us shoot!” A young guard calls from the window. Two mean start to shoot up at Silver from below and Kiss opens the bottom of the box as they shoot, aiming to her wings.
As soon as Kissa let part of the box open, Silver's energy ripped the rest of it away with deafening force as her power exploded, no longer contained. The guard in the air was flung back, hitting a building yards away. A sound like a shotgun popped all around as Silver's energy collided with the ground, the buildings around. Windows shattered and glass rained everywhere. Silver half fell, struggling in the air as the resistance was suddenly gone. Bullets still shot at her from the ground and she tried to fly higher, trying to find her energy again and use it to block those below.
Kissa flies back from the force of the blow, but quickly regains herself. She glares and sends blasts of strong wind towards Silver, trying to knock her out of the sky. Men shoot from the windows. “Aim for the wings!” One shouts.
Silver flared her wings out, feathers spread, and caught Kissa's wind, using it to carry her higher instead of fighting it. The building and Gabriel and everyone grew small beneath her. Diving and dipping to keep in motion and make it harder for them to aim at her, Silver wove away, but turned one last time and whispered into the wind, sending her words back to Gabe's ears alone.
Thank you for setting me free. I'll be back for you.
Airow runs into the room, going to Gabriel’s anklet and scanning it. It beeps and turns green. Airow shoves him towards the window.
“I have a sniper pointing at Kissa’s head, you don’t bring that girl back and we'll blow it off!”
Gabriel stares in disbelief, having never been threatened like this, but doesn’t waste any time to stumble out of the window. He flies up with great effort and heaves, then looks down on the building. Sure enough, there was a sniper on the roof, pointed towards Kissa. He pulls at his hair and growls before turning and following Sil.
“Wait!”
Silver faltered when she heard Gabe's voice, and then felt a sharp sting shoot through the end of her left wing. Her stance in the air dropped and when she spun to check her wing, she saw blood seeping into the feathers. Gritting her teeth against the pain she awkwardly flapped to keep in the air and hobbled farther away, watching Gabriel out of the corner of her eye as he caught up to her.
“Silver!” He flies to her side, worried for her and Kiss.
“Silver…” He breathlessly pants. “Please…”
the men stop shooting now that Sil and Gabriel are out of reach.
Gabriel rubs his collarbone and starts to cough.
“They-they.”
Silver hung in the air, beating her wings to stay still, trying to psych herself through the pain. "Oh, Gabe!" she reached out and grabbed one of his arms, trying to help him stay in the air. "Gabe, you shouldn't be up here, you need to rest!"
Gabriel shakes his head and points back to the building, managing a ‘sorry’ between his coughs. He takes her arm and breathes heavily.
“They’ll shoot her, please! Please Silver!”
Silver glared down at the facility, seeing the guns aimed at Kissa. And then it clicked. What had felt so oddly familiar about Kissa, the idea that had wormed it's way through her subconscious.
Kissa and Gabriel were siblings.
Potentially using a few of Ben's Russian curse words under her breath, she hooked her arms under Gabe's armpits and stabilized her wings, using her power of the air to drive them back down instead of working her wings. She landed on top of the same building as the sniper and lowered Gabe to the ground so he could recover. Turning toward the gunman, she flicked her hand and his gun and all his gear went sailing over the edge of the building and crunched on the pavement below. She walked to the edge of building and reached up, gathering her power behind Kissa and pulling her down to the roof beside Gabe and out of the line of fire from anyone else. Then she spun toward the gunman and gained on him, grabbing him by the front of his shirt and flinging him out over the edge of the roof, holding him above the ground far below. Wind whipped her hair and blood dripped from her wing.
"Go tell your master I'm ready to meet him." she hissed, and then threw him toward a door on the roof behind her.
The man stumbles, but instead of going inside shouts in the door, "Code Bird! We need you here, Almec!"
He points the gun at Silver and keeps it steady there as two younger people (prolly in their early twenties) run out onto the roof, one a blonde man and the other a redhead girl. They kneel beside Gabriel as he wheezes and the man sticks him in the arm with a needle as the girl gently helps him take his inhaler.
Kissa watches over them for a minute, then turns to glare at Silver. She starts to rage in an unintelligible language, but soon stops when a handful of large guards come through the door, weapons ready and glaring.
"Stand down, Silver!"
