in best-to-worst order, Krita, Autodesk Sketchbook, MyPaint, MediBang/FireAlpaca, Verve Painter, and Gimp are all free and pretty decent options, although it depends what your art style may be, whether or not you have a tablet, and if this is your first experience with digital art

hi yes
love medibang
couldn't get used to krita
really really don't like sketchbook (at least on computer, for tablet / touchscreen ig it could work better)

I second this. Medibang is amazing and its more than meets the eye ig. A lot of people say there's not a lot of brushes but you can actually download a bunch. It's also super simple so it you can get used to it quick. Personally, I felt like krita was kinda overstuffed and I think it would've taken me a lot of time to get used to. But if you want a more professional programs with more features and stuff then I do recommend it. I didn't use it for long but I remember I like sketching in it. So yeah, maybe for more detailed and professional work. Moving on to autodesk, I mean, it's fine. It's probably my least favorite for computers. Idk, it just feels awkward. But it's also pretty simple and is loaded with brushes so if that's something you're into then give it a try, you might like it. I don't have any experience with the other programs people mentioned except for gimp. Uhhh, gimp is not good. I tried it out once and I could not figure anything out. You could literally get any other art program. However, I have seen some nice art made on gimp so idk, i just personally don't like it. Anyways, I hope this helped a bit. I feel like I'm rambling a bit but oh well.

I use Gimp.
It's not much but it does what I need it to.

One thing I'd say: before downloading and using anything, check your computer's graphics card and make sure it can handle whatever app you want to use, especially Krita, which has certain requirements that must be met by a graphics card to run properly

@Reblod flag

I started digital art with Gimp but moved on to Medibang eventually (with Photoshop use in between). Medibang is really good for lineart I found. The brush strokes are smooth and you can use a stabiliser, much better than any lineart I've done in photoshop. But, I suppose that depends on your style. I've also painted in Medibang and it's doable but from what experience I have it takes time to learn

Gimp also has a line/brushtroke stabiliser and is user friendly. I also used to animate in gimp!
