I wanted to know if anybody had any AMV tips or just art tips in general. The AMV will be of people and all my drawing are of people and I just wanted to get better. If anybody has any links to help feel free to tell me below and I'll check them out.
hey i'm not that good at drawing, but if you want, i could try to get a drawing up here of an example of how i lay out proportions for any face, even animals… if you accept, then don't mind the ugly face, i'm just doing an example and besides, i'm terrible at noses, eyes, and mouths in particular
If you like to go ahead, I'm happy with just about anything I can get
ah, well i'll see what i can do
Alright cool, so here's the guide to the proportions, which you can find the proportion image here:
the red lines - how i divide up a face to know where the eyes, nose, and mouth go
dark black lines - hair and outline
grey-ish lines - the outline of the eyes, nose, and mouth
Could I start and ask how you draw? Do you draw with a pencil or on tech? Because a few people I know (I myself included) have different techniques that they’re definitely better at.
yeah of course! usually i prefer traditional drawing, but i drew the ref digitally.
yeah so i sketch whatever i draw in pencil first and then go over it with pen
Nah not you, love, sorry, the person asking for tips.
Though if you’d like some tips, I also draw traditionally (for about four years now) so if you wanna hit me up in a different thread you can (shameless self-promo over).
oooh sorry i mixed you up with the person asking
I normally draw with paper/pencil. I'm eventually going to take pictures of my drawing then sketch over them digitally but right now it's just on paper.
Ooh nice. Okay. The reason I was asking is because a big group of us here has ways they prefer to draw.
Anyway, as someone who also draws on paper and with pencil (charcoal soon!!), it might be really hard for you to work on proportions. But all I can say is to find a style that you feel most comfortable with (realistic, anime-ish, cartoon), and find references that you like.
Also absolutely try to learn as much anatomy you can. Especially the muscular system, it’s so important.
However now that I've had a few hour’s thought on it, it probably is wise to summon artsy fartsy friends here.
@Ella-NutElla_Goddess-Of-Doodling has some excellent videos for reference if you’re just getting started on a style choice, or even fundamentals. She also has an amazing style and some nice advice on electronic art.
@Kinarymo probably the best artist on the site? I’d definitely ask them for advice if you want to go for a route towards anime/tech drawing. Has a great DeviantART account too lmao.
@ninja_violinist absolutely excellent with the human figure. Also amazing with color and a paint-like style all on tech. Never ceases to blow my mind when they show us something.
@TheGoldenLegend great with animals and scales! They could probably help you with math/proportions on animal-like figures if you ever wanted help with it.
(you praise me too much Lol >////<)
aaah what a fabulous group of people to be named alongside of!!! I am not worthy thank you
Also, if we're talking AMV as in "anime music video" I'm assuming you're also looking into lil animations?? Possibly?? I'm not sure if this user is still active but @Soup_Nana_and_co has shared some really cool animation clips that would be cool to learn about!
And either way they're also a really great traditional artist who could probably give a lot of good advice on that
So, I'm not much of an animator, but I do paintings, watercolors, virtual reality art, traditional figures, portraits, and gesture drawings.
And this may have already been mentioned, but use guidelines. They make sure everything is even!
Thanks to everyone that replied, this helps so much. I am making AMV but it's not necessarily anime. I go for a more realistic art style
guidelines, a ref sheet or a turnaround if you're using a lot of the same character, a pose modeler (something like a mannequin, I like to use DesignDoll or MMD for posing custom models for longer projects)
another good thing to look into is story boarding on youtube, or just watch a bunch of AMVs until you find a style of animation you like. Some use only stills and such while other use more camera movement, and some even do segments of smooth animation. If you want to use smooth animation at all, I suggest Pencil2D as a good free animating program.
Okay, I'll look into that. Thank you for the suggestions
Alright, so anybody that leaves suggestions for websites and stuff, I'd prefer the site to be free to use.
I wasn't clear about that and just wanted to give a heads up to everybody that had more to share. Thanks again

via this wonderful post
Ah, thank you! Ha ha. Only advice for animation I can give you is that you don't need constant motion and draw the key frames first.
Annnnnnd for traditional art I'd just suggest using instagram for art tips. There are thousands of posts about that sorta thing and that's what has helped me so much. Just use an art tips hashtag and you should get results.
