Hi all!
I just released a small update geared at improving the forums in a few different ways. Here's what's new:
Profile and username improvements
- I want your username to feel yours. Your profile is now accessible via your username as well! (For example, you can now access my profile directly from https://www.notebook.ai/@andrew (Our Supreme Lord and Overseer)). If you change your username, this URL will also change.
-
Your profile is still available from the old ID-style URLs (for example, https://www.notebook.ai/users/5 is me again) and won't ever change. If you plan on changing your username a lot, this is a better URL to share with others so they can still find your profile if you're using a different username.
-
In other to support usernames in URLs (and also to help fix some broken @-mention functionality on the forums), usernames now have a few restrictions on what they can contain:
-
Usernames are now limited to 40 characters max. These characters can be numbers, letters, or a few special characters (e.g. *, $, !, etc – the acceptable characters are on your profile edit page).
-
If you have an invalid username now, don't worry: you will not be forced to change it. Your username-based profile may not work and @-mentions may continue to not always work for you until you do change it. Whenever you'd like, you can change it to whatever you want as long as the new username fits the new username rules.
-
New forum boards
-
The Skillsharing board in Resources is now available for sharing your skills: drawing each other's characters, photoshopping book covers, and whatever other crazy talents y'all have (and want to share!).
-
The Off-topic section now has boards for Music and Art chats.
-
The Roleplaying section now has a new board for Character Chats.
-
There are new Genre Lounges for Romance, Thriller, and Mystery. Feel free to pull up a chair and chat for a bit in each. :)
Better support for "aside" comments
- This is mostly targeted as a small feature for roleplayers, but posts that begin and end with parentheses will now look a little more muted compared to other posts. These kinds of (posts like this) are often used to leave comments in RPs when you leave character or stray from the point of the thread, and should now appear a bit differently to emphasize the "main" comments in a thread better. Example below:
Forum rearrangement
- Ever since we launched the forums, there's been a "no category" block of boards at the very top of the forums page. As we grow into more and more boards, I want to keep the forums nice and organized for new users. To accomplish that, I am moving the General Chat board into the Off-topic section. For general chatter around worldbuilding, we still have the General Worldbuilding board, and we now have a ton of other boards across tons of more specific topics to use as well. Feel free to keep using General Chat though – this is just an organizational move with no board rule changes or anything.
Other things in progress
- I'm currently working on a feature to report posts to moderation. In the meantime, feel free to PM me links to any posts you'd like to report; you can start a PM with me by clicking on my name to visit my profile and then click "Send a message".
