Hi! I've done like a teeny tiny bit of woodwork, so I'm not gonna be super helpful. What I do know: Plywood is pretty cheep and easy to work with, but your result isn't going to be very sturdy and you're definitely going to want to put a nice stain and finish on it so that whatever it is you made doesn't look like glorified cardboard.
Any pure type of wood is going to cost you moneys, but cherry wood should be used for literally everything everywhere. Probably don't stain and be careful with the finish with these, bc you want to showcase the pretty wood ( as opposed to covering up your brokeness, like with the plywood.)
Make things in pieces, have a design plan ahead of time, and maybe an extra set of hands to hold things in place while you screw or nail things together. If you don't have an available extra set of hands, invest in some wood glue to hold things (ish) together while you finish it up. Also, it's a lot of fun and so satisfying on so many levels.
Hope that helps at all!
