I don't see any pokemon discussions, and the Video games tab isn't used enough so I'm going to make this

Also there's a Pokemon presents tomorrow, so

Welcome the the Pokemon hole!

|| Remember the guy was called AZ. I am a bit sad we didn't get anything Unova, but Kalos really needed their Z I agree. Don't really feel too strongly on Mega's, not sure if thats a good or a bad thing||
Also I don't remember how to do spoiler tags/srs

@im-with-stoopid pets

(Yeah, the Discord shortcut for spoilers doesn't work here – you have to type out the <"spoiler"> in markdown. Also doesn't work if there's no end <"/spoiler"> or you double enter.)

Most of my xy love comes from the anime and the adventures manga of it, I was pretty meh on the games. I'm exicted for Z-A though! I might also replay it, just for funsies

@im-with-stoopid pets

(Without the quotes – sorry, I didn't specify. Quoting replies is a good way to see how markdown works, even if you don't plan on actually quoting it.)

It is just me, or does it feel like Scarlet and Violet just came out? I know it didn't, but it feels like it.

SV were neat, but the open-world without level scaling doesn't work. That gym in Alfornada(?) was absolutely brutal for it to be right next to one of the first ones? It was a fun game, and SV introduced a ton of really good Pokémon (Tinkaton, Farigiraf, Ceruledge, Glimmora, Annihilape, etc.), but without any guidelines of where my level should've been, I was either way over or underleveled for a decent chunk of it.

Yeah, I managed to get a good route, I did team star mostly in order (Even though the advertised one is like, the 3rd one in order) And I think the only road bump I really felt was being under leveled for Larry
But I do think it should have Level Scaling for their next main line game. (I really like Annihlape, I've got one named Ghary. Caught it on the ice mountain, its got Poison Tera type.)

Been wanting to do a Pokemon rp, but I don't have any actual ideas for one aside from: Pokemon

@im-with-stoopid pets

(Oh dear you've just unlocked a core memory for me-)

I used to have this running Pokémon thing, and essentially it was a bunch of wild Pokémon living in a treehouse and gardening and doing chores and stuff while trying to avoid being caught. Think Peter Rabbit, pretty much.

Of course, I made it in 5th grade, so my favorite Pokémon (Flygon, at the time) was a hyper-shiny (black and gray) and was immune to Ice attacks and he had a cool pair of glasses and his name was Shades because yeah- but the premise was still there!

@im-with-stoopid pets

(There was a chapter about an Abra working as a double agent because Teleport? And the villain all along was a Jigglypuff, I think. The whole evil team was also all made of Pokémon, but the details were super blurry, even back then.)

(Thats pretty cool)

Looking back on Pokémon Gen I is so hilarious because we're so spoiled for choice now-

You want a Dragon type? Dragonite. Also, the only Dragon move is Dragon Rage.
You want a Gengar because it looks cool? Trade evolution. The only damaging Ghost moves are Night Shade and Lick. Also, Ghosts are bugged, and they don't hit Psychics super-effectively. And the Gastly line is also part Poison, so they're weak to Psychic themselves.
Do you think Paras and Parasect are neat? Wrong. In Gen I only, there was a bug that made Bug weak to Poison, so Gen I Paras and Parasect are the only Pokémon to this day that have three 4x weaknesses.
You want a Poison type because they're the most common type in the game? Best move is Sludge.

And that's not even counting all the Physical/Special split shenanigans. Hitmonchan has, like, no coverage because the elemental punches are all Special and not Physical. Charizard's Flying type does absolutely nothing for it because it doesn't get Fly until Pokémon Yellow, and Fly is a Physical move on a Special attacker.

Nothing in Gen I works the way it should, and honestly, I'm starting to respect it for that.

I think I thought the Poison against bug thing was just a thing
I mean, it makes sense
And I didn't know that was a glitch until recently
But yeah gen 1 is wack

Apparently, Bug was good on Poison and vice versa. Doesn't matter much because this is before Fury Cutter, X-Scissor, buffed Leech Life, and pretty much every other half-decent Bug move, but it's something!
Also, Psychic is straight up immune to Ghost- yikes

Tbh, now that I've been making custom Sprite edits for Johtonian Typhlosion, I'm starting to realize just how squandered his potential was-

He wants to be fast because Eruption does massive damage at full health, and base 100 is, like, decent for fast
Wants to be a special attacker, most coverage moves are physical attacks (Iron Head, Earthquake, Play Rough, Aerial Ace, Wild Charge, Rock Slide, Shadow Claw, Zen Headbutt, Brick Break)
At least Hisui Typhlosion gets Infernal Parade, which is Hex with a chance to inflict burn by itself-

I've been ideaing a bit lately, just thinking about potential moves that could make Johto Typhlo at least a little unique

  • Shed Fur: Typhlosion's explosive fur sheds onto the opponent's side of the battlefield. It sparks and combusts on contact. - (Pretty much just Fire-type Stealth Rocks/Spikes, can be absorbed by fire Pokémon and Pokémon with Flash Fire (and activates Flash Fire, too!))

  • Arid Updraft: The user rapidly heats the air around themself and concentrates it into a parching blast. Flying type move that hits Water types super effectively, 70 base power, special. (Charizard would kill for this move, lol- gives Typh some much-needed Water coverage that isn't Thunder Punch, Wild Charge, or Solar Beam)

  • Scorching Sands (already existing move): (For whatever reason, Typh doesn't get Scorching Sands? It's a newer move, so maybe it just hasn't been fully distributed yet, but Blaziken and Incineroar get it, and both are better as physical attackers)

Ofc, just spitballing here y'know- Typh got a form last gen, and I don't think the Johto form will get much attention for the time being, most certainly not signature moves

Deleted user

Man, Johtoian is a mouthful to say ain't it

We do need more field hazards of different elements, I think that'd be cool to give Typhlosian
I don't know Typhlosians exact stats or anything, you sound like you're right tho, so I'll agree

On a mildly unrelated note, I think A Johto Legends:Ho-Oh or Celebi would be cool to get someday

@im-with-stoopid pets

Yeah, the main issue is just power creep- there are so many genuinely amazing Pokémon (and personal favorites) that are just outclassed because every generation needs to be stronger than the last, otherwise there's no point in using the new Pokémon

I get it, but it really stinks for Johto in particular because it's an older Gen and there aren't that many good Pokémon to begin with

@im-with-stoopid pets

Also, yeah Legends: Ho-Oh would be fantastic- there's so much cool Gen 2 lore, it's like second best in the series behind Sinnoh and mayhaps the UB stuff- I'm on the fence about Gen 7

Deleted user

Yeah
The idea came from me cuz I was re-reading Pokemon Adventures, the GS and Heartgold and Soulsilver arcs, which have a lot of Celebi stuff important, and Also Gold does literally fight Arceus, who sends you back in time in Legends Arcues]
And I'm a personal fan of Gen 7 and the UB stuff
Me and a friend have been working on a sort of fakemon idea for an Ultra Space region/Legends game
