Things I Wish You Knew
I want you to know
Most importantly,
I miss you
I want you to know
Getting up from your side,
Letting go,
And walking out of that room…
It was the hardest thing I have ever done.
I want you to know
I held you until you were cold
And if it was up to me
I would have stayed with you forever
But I want you to know
I was with you until the very end, my friend
I want you to know
Last night I laid down in my bed
And I had to get up and sleep downstairs instead
Because all I felt was the absence of you
And I’m not ready to be alone yet
I want you to know
When I woke up this morning
And came back upstairs
I expected you to be there like you always had been
And I cried because you weren’t
I want you to know
For the first time in almost 10 years
I’m without my best friend
And I want you to know how much that hurts
I want you to know
I went for a walk yesterday
And you weren’t at my side
But I want you to know
I took you with me in my back pocket
To the baseball diamond to throw the ball and run the bases
To the bench in the park where we used to sit together
And in the grass under the big trees
I want you to know
I’ll keep walking those paths
With you in my back pocket
But just know
I prefer you at my side.
I wrote this one after my dog died because i had to for school
I wrote both these in 2014.
Midnight Moon
People in a room,
All of them sealed to their doom.
They will die soon,
But not before the midnight moon.
