Interesting question. It depends on the type of earth dragon. I'd say a volcanic dragon would be more inclined to be hatched and raised in a mountainous area with plenty of volcanoes - either dormant or active - while a true stone dragon would fair best in a deep cavern, tucked away from light until it's at least a month old.

When the egg hatches, find food immediately. Lots of meat, obviously, but some berries and fruits too. Dragons are living creatures like any other, so they need nutrition. The legends about dragons being pure carnivores aren't entirely false, but in the time the stories were written that was the scariest thing to humans, was a pure carnivore. So make sure to balance your dragon's diet. Even if it is an earth dragon. (If you capture a live animal, give the whole thing to the dragon. Bones help with digestion and producing the stuff that the dragon uses to breathe fire.)

And as I said, once it hits a month old it should be at roughly hip height, making it very difficult for most normal predators to attack it due to its hard scales. Let it learn to hunt and don't interfere.

From there, once it hits 6-7 months you can either train it to use its wings if it has any, or train it to carry you on its back.

Congratulations, you've raised an earth dragon.
