*CONTENT WARNINGS: WILL DEAL WITH SOME ADULT IDEAS SUCH AS THE SELLING OF ONESELF TO GAIN BENEFITS

^ That can be toned down

So sorry this is so long!

I wanted to play with a revamped character.

Before he was named Tali but after a few changes to his plot and character his new name is Hyun (tho I incorporated the original name and concept into his story)

The basic plot line for an rp I have isn’t very restrictive or fleshed out, you can have a normal character who happens upon Hyun or have your character be an Abnormality as well (Abnormalities are the humanoid beings with magic or some metahuman powers/mutations). I’d like to explore some things along the lines of Hyun’s past and his encounter with Yosef, AKA Rupert Thompson, and his interest in the Abnormalities. You’ll learn a little more about him in the character profile down below.

Meet Hyun, the skin-stealer. His profile is below and you do not have to have as much detail as this character profile has, (or even a character profile at all, I’m good with jumping right in) he’s been a long running character for me so I’ve given him a lot. Sorry for such a long profile, I have yet to put him into notebook as well.

(It is also super late where I am rn and I might not be able to reply right away but I just wanted to put this up ahead of time.)

Name:

Hyun (he never learned his forename, it was information withheld from him)

Other Name(s)

First called himself Tali because of the Gwisin that playfully joked he had half as much power as a talisman, then decided (regretfully) that Hyun was much more suited.

Race:

Korean American

Shapeshifter/Skin stealer

Gender:

Male

Age:

23

Sexuality:

Pansexual

Bio:

Born with the ability to mimic appearances just by studying them, Hyun was immediately an outcast. To top it off he was born out of wedlock as an illegitimate child and immediately disliked. His biological mother tried her best to raise the monster she had birthed but it soon became obvious that she didn’t want the thing any longer. Hyun found himself alone on the streets at an early age, fighting to live.

Fortunately (or unfortunately as Hyun would say), he was found by a man who ran a mysterious home for the magical ‘deities’, as the home-owner called them. The man, Rupert Thompson - known to the magical as ’Yusef’ - owned a large, beautiful manner he called a temple for the lesser deities. There, he named and raised Hyun as a deity of mischief and darkness. Hyun’s power wasn’t quite like the other deities, more sinister and selfish. He could mimic appearances to get what he wanted. The other’s could speak with plants and help them grow or lift things with their thoughts or even make it rain when they were angered. They were praised heavily for it, given gifts from those that worshiped them and asked for their assistance. Hyun never really knew who these worshipers were, nor why they sought out the aid of kids and young adults with volatile powers. None of the deities were allowed to know that information though some returned with stories of Yosef accepting favors of cash and pricey items.

He grew through his entire childhood being told he was some sort of bad omen with a desire for nothing but his own selfish needs. Any offering given to him was not one of reverence but of fear and of prayers to forgive the wrongdoings of the offerer or someone close to them. He got many offerings, some that came directly from Yosef, who claimed the people nearby left the gifts tied to the branches of the trees that lined the front gate of the manner-temple. It irked Hyun to see letters addressed directly to him. In order to ‘keep his negative energy at bay’, Yosef gifted Hyun the first of his supposed ‘sacred items’: jewelry made from Black Onyx that supposedly trapped and neutralized most of his negative powers. These included different black rings that were either worn in piercings along his ears, through his lip, or around his fingers. Yosef warned that if Hyun didn’t keep a hold on his powers, he might end up one day actually stealing someone’s face rather than mimicking it; which was often a fear shared by the worshipers. The idea of the facial and ear piercings was that it prevented him from changing his appearance and not being recognized. He wasn’t allowed to take any of them out unless directed to by Yosef.

All deities were free to wander about the manner-temples grounds which were surrounded by many acres of forest land, but were heavily instructed to stay away from the people living just beyond the tree lines. This rule was heavily enforced by the use of armed human guards, mythical and magical creatures, and lesser deities gifted with protection magic.

Once a deity turned 16 they could be granted the choice of whether or not they wished to leave the manner-temple and explore the outside world. Yosef decided who was clear to leave or not. Hyun asked the day he turned 16 if he could leave and Yosef hesitantly agreed to it, advising Hyun to keep the black rings in no matter what he did. Hyun left with a single other warning: if he caused any sort of trouble that Yosef heard about, Hyun would be sought out and taken back to the manner-temple for the safety of humanity.

Hyun left as soon as he could, packing what little items he had and entering a world he didn’t know anything about. It didn’t take him long to learn, however, and as soon as Hyun turned 20 he found himself quite popular and very well off. He had started out by working for many different people and taking up any job he could, sleeping in homeless shelters and generously borrowed beds. At the age of 18, Hyun found that he could get really anything he wanted with minimal effort by using his powers. Eventually he went from mimicking direct people to making himself more attractive to easily seduce anyone he was remotely into. By the age of 19 he decided on sticking to Asian forms as it hurt less and often looked more natural. K-pop idols and stars were his go-to structures. Quite often he found himself surrounded by people giving him gifts and compliments. That he loved and craved.

It took him only a few years to realize that he was no ‘deity’ of darkness and ill-will. None of those ‘deities’ back at the shrine were real deities. Hyun found out that people like him and the other deities, were a rare occurrence that only powerful and important people got to know about. They called the beings like him Abnormalities, and they were an ongoing source of study and interest to select few scientists across the world. The majority of the mass public and common people were kept out of the know for some reason that Hyun was never able to find out. He couldn’t help but question what Yosef’s real intentions were with the deities but his curiosity was overpowered by the need to be free and do what he wanted.

Hyun now spends his days lazing about in different apartments of the wealthy and rich and important alike, taking every chance he could to sleep or seduce some important CEO to get what he wants. He sometimes takes up modeling opportunities but he never lets them last long, too afraid to be spotted by Yosef in some popular media. Hyun did keep a few of the earrings in his ears after all, though he changed up which ones from time to time.

Though, he feels empty even with everything, wanting to find purpose in his life. He seeks authenticity, real affection, and something to make him feel whole.

Personality:

Sulky and yet strong and confident. Hyun lives to impress others as much as he can. He’s often very cocky and does well with people and crowds. He is always super popular at dances, raves, night clubs, and bars as his personality is almost as alluring as his borrowed looks. It really doesn’t help he’s a pansexual mess of flirtatious attitude. He has an inflated ego and a superiority complex along with an inferiority complex he tries to mask with overconfidence and drinks.

Likes:

Cats (absolutely adores them), pastels, Korean style clothing, rings

Dislikes:

Pizza, avocado’s, the smell of pineapple, loneliness, other ‘deities’

Gen. Appearance:

When he’s not shifted or stealing another’s face, he’s not too shabby looking. With dark hair he usually slicks back and a celebrity face he could probably pull off just being himself. Unfortunately he really dislikes how he looks and prefers to steal the most attractive parts of humanity for his look. Though there is one consistency throughout all of his forms: the black rings and earrings he wears. He has ten in total: a lobe and triple helix (three helix) piercings on both ears, a side lip piercing, and a ring he wears on his right index finger. All of these are made with Black Onyx and given to him by Yosef. However he often chooses to leave only a few of the Black Onyx jewelry he was given on at any time. Very rarely will he wear them all at the same time and often wears other types of jewelry alongside two or three of his onyx ones.

Height:

A good 5’10

Eye color:

Brown

Usual outfit:

Pastel or light colored clothing. Relies heavily on the popular Korean style clothing, as opposed to the very restrictive style of clothing required by Yosef at the manner-temple which include traditional ritual clothing provided by one of Yosef’s suppliers. Loves sunglasses. Enjoys street fashion and as many accessories as he can fit on his person (especially rings. He loves rings.)

Other:

Is able to steal another’s appearance if he first see’s them. He can completely rebuild his body shape and attributes if he so wishes to do so. He cannot transform into animals or objects however he can mimic certain attributes such as fangs or claws.
He can't hold an appearance forever, as it drains his energy so every few nights he sleeps with a mask on to hide his real face as he recharges.

And as for his shapeshifting:

Appearance:

Whatever he pleases. Usually he steals the looks from popular Korean and Asian celebrities, combining their best features to make him the most handsome he can be. Unfortunately, it hasn’t helped him any. He only attracts shallow females and horny men. Surprise surprise.

Shifting is actually quite painful, as his bones and muscles rip themselves into new shapes and forms. Over time he has grown used to the pain, and can shift easily without any complaints. He can’t create new mass, however, and has to work with what he has on his body already. (It’s a good thing he works out regularly and keeps himself rather fit. He’s gotta keep up a good body mass for changing his appearance). His piercings never change, though they adjust along with his shifting to appear more natural.

Usual Facial Structure:

(Same person as the clothing reference above)
Narrow face, soft features, think of K-pop idols.

Hmm,,,, perhaps a joining? If you'd explain your plot a bit more that is.

@Toxic_Persephone group

@orion of course! I’m still playing with the ideas so all I have is the basic stuff but I’m more than willing to explain what I’ve got so far.

@jacen-is-really-fackin-gay I’m up for creating another post or heading to the PM’s if you’d like to.

@Toxic_Persephone group

Okay, cool! An explanation is welcome!

I’ll get right to that! I apologize for the wait. It might be a bit longer just cuz I have work today but I should be back soon

Whatever works for you!

Neat! If it’s alright, I’ll send a pm, just easier for me to find people that way as sometimes my @‘s don’t work properly

Alrighty then!

@orion

Alrighty!

Which parts of the plot would you like to know more about?

Rupert’s plans with the deities are of a selfish nature, he uses them for of course the basic, classic reasoning of gaining resources from people to make himself both more wealthy and more powerful. He aims to be a very influential political figure.
He runs a small group of people who want to do the same, they think the Abnormalities are the key to political and military power while the actual government is still trying to decide what to do about them. Rupert and his group don’t want to wait and let the opportunity pass so they’re working on figuring out what to do about it.

A bit cliche in all the ways, but ya know
