Name: Iverna “Ives” Vincent
Age: 29
Gender: cis female
Sexuality: asexual
Personality: Upon first meeting her, Ives comes across as friendly, if not a bit scatterbrained and distant. She spends most of her free time trying to “experiment” with magic and think of innovative ways to push the limits of what magic can and cannot do. She also enjoys science and is very knowledgeable in regards to physics and chemistry, often trying to draw the connections between science and magic. Most people tend to find her a bit eccentric, but she takes that as a compliment more than anything. She dislikes rules and tends to be somewhat chaotic, caring more about her personal sense or morality than what others think of her— or the law, for that matter. Behind the scenes, Ives struggles a lot with depression and PTSD, and is actually quite cynical, especially towards other people. She does not trust others very much, and while she likes making friends she doesn’t usually do a good job at keeping them. She is intelligent, but can be somewhat dense in social situations, often misunderstanding things like sarcasm or jokes.
Appearance: Ives stands at around 5’6, with fair skin. She is wiry with an almost boyish build— small bust, no curves. She’s not exactly muscular but her arms are somewhat toned, and she likes to stay active. She has a youthful appearance, a small gap between her teeth, blue-grey eyes, and wild golden curls that hang all the way down her back. She wears a pair of large circular glasses and usually keeps her hair tied back out of her face.
Backstory: Ives mother passed away shortly after the birth of her little sister. Ives’ father, a magic wielder, was a manipulative and unstable man. He physically and psychologically abused his children, refusing to let Ives attend school or interact with anyone outside of the house, even homeschooling them (or, more accurately, he threw some books at her and Ives homeschooled herself, to whatever extent a child can). He told her that if she spoke to anyone, she and her sister would be taken away and never see each other again, and she, being only a child, believed him for years. However, he spent a lot of his time away from home, doing drugs and having sex with prostitues and whatever else he felt like, leaving a very young Ives to take care of her even tinier sister. Really, Ives preferred he stayed away though, because he would only berate or harm the girls when he was home. Ives developed a fear of interacting with people and avoided them at all costs, regularly dealing with depression and suicidal thoughts. At the age of 18, after her father broke her younger sister’s nose, Ives ran away and took her sister with her.
Ives scraped around to get them both an apartment and jobs, and eventually saved up enough to go to college. She studied biology, physics, and chemistry.
She now has a job as a physics professor at a local college but makes most of her living off of her writings regarding her study of physics and magic. Her sister is also doing well, having moved out, and is a musician. Ives’ father died last year, presumably of a drug overdose.
Powers/Abilities/Magic: Ives’ magic is somewhat strange. She has the ability to enhance organic matter and living creatures. E.g., she can focus her energy to allow herself to heal, to cause bones, hair, teeth, etc. (of her or another person she is touching) to grow at an extremely unnatural rate, to cause plants to grow from a seed to a fully grown stem in a matter of seconds, etc. Her magic is pretty specific, only affecting things that are already alive, but it requires a lot of energy for her to use, especially on people or larger animals. She has never used her powers to harm any creature, but she believes that it would be possible to kill someone. She has tried to use other types of magic, and she can perform some basic spells and enchantments, but nothing too complex.
Other: she has a cat named Beans, lots of plants, and she likes to listen to music
