how do you write a character who has DID (Dissociative Identity Disorder)
hello! please mind my spelling i have trouble spelling :)
first, TRAUMA! DID is a disorder formed by trauma, often repetitive.
second: it needs to be formed before the age of 10, after about 7?
3- unlike tiktok, real DID systems often have trouble differecniating their alters, and might not know who's fronting when a lot. they may not know how many identities they have, what "roles" they are, etc. it can take DECADES to figure out who's who and add labels + personalities to differenciate them.
4- each alter is essientially a different person with different memories, different "ages", different pain tolerences…etc!
5- show them switching
6- alters can't die. they can go dormant, or blend with another, but they can't die.
Good luck!
I HAVE ONE THAT HAS DID!
Minnow. her did formed when her father forcefully put a second spirit into her body, a demon who goes by Rin. Each of her alters has formed by various things her dad did. She has many different alters, and cant keep track of them all. the more noticeable ones are Mina, who is the oldest, Mimi, who is the youngest, Moss, who is the strongest willed with the lowest pain tolerance, Rin, who isn't an alter, but functions as one, and Nita, who is really rude. they all try to keep up with the others, but its difficult. They all named themselves. inside her mind, they all live in a weird forest-like space, with a house with rooms they stay in (or thats how the alters describe it). || THIS LAST THING IS NOT SOMETHING THAT HAPPENS WITH REAL DID, but a quirk i added to minnow. she can only switch when she blinks, and the swap takes very little time.
