What’s it like, not knowing that there’s a whole other world out there? A world outside of your own, with a completely different history, process, all that. New people, new groups. Some things may be the same - most things are completely different.

You’ve lived a nomadic life, in a place where everybody knows everybody. No electricity - you wouldn’t even know what that is to begin with, given things here, like I said, are different. But what you do have is magic. Magic - fascinating powers, that people are born with. There’s even classes that students go to in order to train and control their abilities.
So what’s normal to you, is strange to someone else.

Someone that one day shows up in the area, and they dress pretty weirdly too. Who is this person? What clan do they hail from?

Mm, my favourite. Transported to another dimension RP.

NOTES

  • you, the person joining this rp will be playing the person who lives in the nomadic clan.
  • I didn’t give the clan a name, so you can make that up if you so desire.
  • people in this world live in nomadic clans in an untouched world. clean air, fresh water, you name it.
  • although war has happened in this world’s history, the last major war was about 3 centuries ago. for the most part, scuffles between people aren’t serious.
  • magic overuse is a thing; should a magic user push themselves too much they can be ‘locked out’ (aka unable to use their magic) for a few hours. they can also be extremely tired, or have a headache. sometimes even passing out
  • the character I will be playing comes from a different universe. I’m not going to say much on this.
  • I will be playing as a man. though I’d prefer whoever joins this play a woman, you don’t have to.
  • this will probably a be a romance of some sort, maybe, maybe not.

RULES

  1. Try not to be overpowered, okay?
  2. No autohitting, but don’t dodge everything when it comes to fights. Be fair.
  3. Ask questions as needed.
  4. Three sentences minimum.
  5. Good grammar appreciated.
  6. Mature RPers, please.
  7. As usual, cursing is allowed.
  8. Blood and the such is also allowed, but know that there’s a time and place for everything.
  9. If I am not familiar with your style, I’ll ask for a writing sample. Have one at ready.

(Hullo! I’ve just watched Howl’s Moving Castle, and I’m in the mood for some magic. May I join?)
(Here’s a writing sample:)
(Icarus felt his jaw go slightly slack. He wanted to cry from happiness. If he’d keep imagining this place a bit longer- or better, if this really was real and Tellis was telling the truth, he’d never run out of inspiration.
Seeing Tellis’ full wing span, he was taken aback even more. The wings were so beautiful, no invention he’d ever make would match up to them. They were the embodiment of beauty. At least in his eyes. How much could they do? How powerful were they? What happens when they are injured? Can a ‘Scere’ have their wings removed? Did they fly similar to a bird’s? He could get a step closer to understanding bird’s flight, especially on this scale.
He blinked, bringing himself back after zoning out.
“Perfect timing.” he said, flat out. “Perhaps there is something I can fiddle with … ? Take apart and put back together? Sculpt or draw with?”
Icarus was overflowing, and no matter what, he needed to create before this feeling was lost.
“I’m an inventor, you see. And I need to create something quickly.”)
(I won’t always reply this long though.)

@Meow

(Thank you! And yes, I have a few questions. First, is there anything I should know about the clan’s culture/lifestyle ect. that you’ve already planned out? Things like clothing styles, hair colours, why they are nomadic, housing style and so on. Second, what are the animals/wildlife like? ,,, if you’ve figured that out. Third, what kind of name(s) should I choose?)

@Mojack group

((Alright, so while I most likely won’t be able to cover everything (some stuff for the nomad clans may be improvising on your part) here’s some details to start you off

  • nomads generally live a free lifestyle, though they do have laws in order to protect the clan. laws would just be the common sense sort of thing, like, no destruction of property, no murder, etc.
  • depending on the severity should a law be broken an individual can expect to be under close watch, or put into jail, or worst case, exiled.
  • only the ‘crazies’ (aka ones that commit really bad crimes) would be exiled. these exiled are more likely to attack people, but they rarely ever stay near clan territory.
  • nomads live in well built homes made from natural materials (since the setting is of a forest, there’s plenty of materials to use). houses aren’t extremely large, usually one floor but sometimes two floors. families or relatives in the clan will usually live closer to each other making for groups of houses (neighborhoods) filled with relatives.
  • clothing varies from occasion to occasion, but all of it is handmade, either purchased from a Weaver (a person who makes clothing and armour) or made by the wearer. robes are a common sight for casual wear for adults, but when venturing out in the forest, one would probably not wear robes as to avoid getting caught on stuff.
  • clothing is made from natural materials that originate from the clan’s territory. think furs, leather, etc. anything ‘natural’ that can be used to make clothing, basically.
  • as for why they’re nomads, I didn’t exactly think of a reason aside from, it’s just how things happened to be in this world
  • hair dye, though a thing, is rarely ever done. even when it is done it’s never in bright or unusual colours like blue or green. most people opt for natural colours. some are able to change the colour of their hair, and some can even change other people’s hair colours.
  • as for animals, most animals are (generally) normal. animals possess a connection to magic; most animals cannot use magic like humans can, but are seen as the original users of magic by many.
  • for not so normal animals, they’re mostly seen as rare, even myths. gryphons and hippogriffs live a bit north away from the clan’s land, but can occasionally be seen flying above. they usually don’t interact with humans, but they’re most attune with wind magic, meaning those with an affinity for wind related abilities may have an easier time communicating with them (same for any wind affinity animal. wind related animals would be things like birds.)
  • a stormbird is rumoured to live up at the top of the mountains, though no one’s ever seen one in person. the stormbird has both wind and lightning affinity.
  • wyverns are larger than humans but smaller than dragons. they possess either an earth or fire affinity, sometimes a poison affinity. they live far west from the clan’s territory, and are seen as the hardest to communicate with due to their aggressive nature. rarely do they stray too far from their territory.
  • giant fire salamanders live usually to the east, some can be spotted in the forest. they usually won’t attack humans, but it’s still advised to stay away from them. giant fire salamanders are black, usually with orange or red/yellow markings. they have a very strong fire affinity, and are even able to resist fire to an extent. by some, they’re seen as the creations of dragons.
  • dragons are rare (but not as rare as the stormbird) and intelligent creatures (intelligence rivalling humans). capable of speech and writing. they usually sleep for centuries at a time, making it so that no one’s seen a dragon in this lifetime, but they have been recorded in the past. they’re solitary and prefer to be on their own. they can have any element affinity, but their fire affinity is the strongest of them all.
  • of course, those with animal affinities (abilities relating to animals) would have an easier time communicating with animals overall. minus dragons for whatever reason, which have no trouble communicating with humans in the first place, but choose not to. ))

(Sorry for the delay - I’ve had school meetings all day and I fell asleep before I could finish my character. Let me know if I made any mistakes or if I should make any changes.)
Name: Aspen Sky Willowing
Age: 22
Gender: Female
Sexuality: Pansexual
Appearance: Aspen is 5’ 6”, though she appears a bit shorter from hunching over often to stabilize with her leg. Her skin is a warm ivory and tans quickly. Her hair was a dark auburn. However, after a failed test of hair dye and experimental illusionary magic, she’s enchanted her hair to be indigo black during the day, and a sunny blonde at night. Aspen’s hair only reaches the top of her shoulder, with long bangs she usually clips to the side. Her eyes are an icy grey.
Distinguishing marks: Burns around her wrists, looking as if they were flames curling up her arms. An enchanted wooden leg, in place of her lost right leg. A birthmark over her left eye, appearing like a paint splash.
Clothing: Her favourite robes are a pale blue, and she wears them as often as possible. Otherwise she wears usually a combination of a straight skirt to her ankles, a loose shirt, and a shawl. She’d had them fixed a bit to make it extra convenient to put on. Most of her clothing is fastened with a knot and easily wrapped around to put on.
Personality: A joyful lady. Always lost in a dream, usually wondering how much cooler it would be if magic didn’t have any rules. She is kind to a fault, but she either doesn’t mind or ignores it. She will help the sick or injured, never second-guessing. She’ll jump into whatever looks exciting, often bringing her into a fair amount of danger. She keeps her head up high, and a smile on her face. Those who know her well, often choose to describe her like a flame. Both after her magic, but also after her gentle nature and bright personality. But all the adults also say she’s just as untameable as a forest fire.
Background: Aspen faintly remembers her mother. She had passed when Aspen turned 6, a hereditary disease slowly brought her health to shambles. She’s been told her mother was very gifted in keeping the energy alive in the clan, and helped with building and taking down the shelters. Her mother’s Flute was a gift to Aspen, though the enchantments on the flute slowly undid. Her father has since raised her, her older twin-sisters, and her younger brother. Her father had always been big on cooking and plants. Especially plants. Aspen does as much as she can to help, and to stay out of the way. Her sisters annoy her a lot, and are popular for their flashy strawberry blonde hair, inherited from their mother. Her brother is a bit huffy, but Aspen knows how much of an adventure he enjoys too.
Skills:
Cooking - “If it looks good, it goes in.” She pulls it off most of the time though.
Flute - Her mother had carved an enchanted wooden flute. Since then, the magic has slowly come undone, but Aspen keeps the beauty of it’s sound alive through skill alone.
Flaws/fears:
Easy to manipulate(especially due to her unwilling kindness), gets into danger very easily(doesn’t think about getting hurt until afterwards), absentminded(gets lost in thought very often).
She is scared her people will leave her someday, which only wills her to be nicer and offer to help more. She is scared that one day, while lost in thought, she may also drop into an unstoppable danger and she won’t be able to save herself in the nick of time. Physical fears she has are boiled water, any bird that has red feathers, and thunderstorms.
Magic: Fire - The more there is to burn, the stronger the magic.
Illusion - Making one thing look like another. The bigger an object, the less time the illusion works. Her illusions don’t work on any objects bigger than a book though, and she can’t make illusions out of thin air.
Other: Aspen was the one out of her family who inherited the same disease as her mother. It doesn’t take much of a toll on her health right now, minus the few episodes she has every now and then.

@Mojack group

Name: Jyri Saarela
Clan: N/A
Age: 21
Gender: Male
Sexuality Bisexual

Appearance: Jyri stands at around 5’9”. He’s tall, though not the tallest person around. He has a slightly athletic build due to his lifestyle, and fair - not dark, not extremely pale - skin. Complete heterochromia in both eyes; one eye is a dark brown, almost black (but the brown is easier to see in the light) while the other is a much lighter hazel. The left being the hazel one, while the right being the dark brown one.
Notably, he seemingly has a ring of amber around his hazel eye’s pupil. It isn’t extremely noticeable unless you were to stare at him for long periods of time. His hair is a light, auburn colour, going down slightly below his ears, though he’d usually trim it if he ever got the chance. Speaking of not getting the chance to trim, he has a very slight stubble forming on his chin.

Distinguishing marks: ring of amber around the pupil of his left eye, two vertical scars on the left side of his lips. much larger scars raking his torso that seem to be fading. A black tattoo around his right arm; the tattoo isn’t a very notable design; it just loops around his wrist.
Clothing: ”I can’t remember the last time I sat down and relaxed. In casual clothing.”
True to his words, Jyri hasn’t gotten much time to rest. He wears something resembling a uniform; the uniform is mainly a pale grey, bland colour. There isn’t much to show. It’s made up of pants of course, as well as a fair sized jacket. The jacket, on the back of it, has a white symbol stitched into it. The symbol looks to be of some sort of unidentifiable reptilian skull, though no words are displayed. Black boots, and he wears a very short black cloak around his upper body that has a hood which can be pulled up if needed.
Has a dark red scarf that he wears under his clothing, but he usually pulls it up to hide his lower face. Though he carries light brown/greyish gloves, he doesn’t always wear them.
He sports a greenish grey cap on his head, protecting his eyes from the sun, with cloth draped around the back of it (that stops at the base of his neck.)

Personality: Jyri is loyal to his people, extremely so. He may not be the most courageous - but he usually doesn’t let that show. He’s shown to have a strong will to survive, which helps him push back his fears. Jyri is not the person to want to put on a show, he prefers to be on the sidelines; even a wallflower at times. He’s cautious in unfamiliar settings; even cautious to people and things that are familiar to him - so imagine how he does with something he doesn’t know.

Background: Jyri was born to serve the Imperial Order (a faction from his own world). Not literally, of course, but with that way that it was forced into his mind when he was young, he soon believed service to the Order was the only thing to bring his family to glory. Though that mindset changed quickly after witnessing the horrors of the everlasting war, he thought it was too late to back down now. So, he stuck to service.
As far as he knows, his mother and father still live back at home. They’re proud of their son, and perhaps part of his reason for staying and not deserting is because he doesn’t want to be outcast by them (or he fears their reaction at least). He has one younger sister and a younger brother, both of which aspire to be like him - brave and in service to the Order. If only they knew Jyri’s true thoughts on that matter.

Skills: Marksmanship- he has an incredibly steady aim, both when shooting a gun or throwing something with his hands.
Stamina- He’s excellent at conserving his energy, and keeping an even pace while running.
Piloting- This skill may or may not be any use in this brand new world, but he was an expert at ‘piloting’ in his world. The question is, what was he piloting? The effects of his many years of piloting have shown on him physically; though not to a great extent, one can already see the ring of amber around one of his pupils. A person with no knowledge of Piloting wouldn’t know the significance of a mark, though.
Memory- He’s got an excellent memory, for the better or for the worse.

Flaws/fears: Disappointing his family- it’s because of these fears, he hasn’t deserted the army. That, and he doesn’t want to be captured for it.
He doesn’t have the best knowledge with fighting close quarters, and would rather avoid it.
Though he’s gotten better with suppressing his fears, he’s liable to panic if he fails to do that. He’s not a person to pursue a situation, more likely to give up if something goes wrong unless it’s extremely important.

Magic: Possesses an animal affinity, unknown to him (for whatever reason). It’s not that strong of an affinity (meaning he can’t make out exactly what an animal says, should it speak, though occasionally he can hear words. perhaps due to his otherworldliness, he’s unable to maintain a strong connection.)
Other: Nothing for now.

((Would you like me to make the starter?))

@Mojack group

There was a flash.

A big flash, at that. And it was like one of those movies, where all of the characters slowly turn to look at the situation, and everything goes silent. Except this time it wasn’t a movie - to Jyri, it was his reality.
For a few seconds, anyway. His thoughts were jumbled together - that’s a big explosion to I need to get out of here from where are the others? Except, he didn’t have time to finish the rest of him, because the rest of it was fuzzy from that moment on.

Sunlight drifted onto his features. Birds were chirping in the distance, some were closer than the rest. Jyri opened his eyes, slowly, gazing up into the branches above him. There, sun poked their way through. He blinked a couple times, adjusting to the light; tapping his fingers against the..grass?
Last time he checked, he was in a building, far off from any grass.

He didn’t quite panic then as he sat up, before hissing as a sharp pain emerged from his abdomen. He could move his hand down and feel the blood, which hadn’t yet dried. It was a hefty wound, he realized, leaning back against the tree he’d so conveniently woken up nearby. It didn’t seem to be bleeding very much right now, though. And that was good. He blinked again, looking around at his surroundings. A peaceful forest was what he was in, unusual to him, since, like he’d remembered, he wasn’t anywhere near a forest, last time he checked.
Jyri held pressure against his wound with his right hand for the time being. He wondered if someone had taken him here. If so, how long had he been out for? And who had saved him? Little did he no, there was no ‘person’ that had saved him.

Maybe it was just him being a bit woozy, a bit mindless when he made the decision to call out. “Hello?” Surprisingly, there was no shake in his voice. Yet when the forest fell silent, and no answers came to him, Jyri felt that panic creeping in.
He startled when a bird suddenly landed on the branch next to him, his free hand instinctively moving for his- oh, right. He didn’t have his gun on him last time he was awake. No sense why he’d have it on him right now.
He could feel his heart, thumping in his chest. Had a songbird truly scared him so much? He stared for a while longer, then returned attention to himself. Get moving, get to a place of vantage, figure out where you are.

St..ange..
Huh? Jyri heard a stutter, but he couldn’t pinpoint the source. He went still, looking around, but no one was there that he could see. No one but the bird. For a moment, Jyri was going to speak, ask the bird a question. But he faltered, scolding himself.
“What are you doing, Jyri? Trying to speak to an animal?” He muttered.
He didn’t have time to look away when the bird suddenly spoke to him, though.
Strange..arrival..
The beak. He saw the bird’s beak open and close, just as it spoke those words. Jyri’s pulse rose again, falling deathly still. For a few seconds though only, because he pushed against his pain and scrambled to his feet. When he looked back at the branch, the bird was still there, watching him, head tilted.
“What..what the hell!” He nearly shrieked, unsure if he were to believe this were a dream or not. He had to move. Away from the talking bird - he needed to calm himself. Taking a deep breath, he moved away from the area, and began trudging through the forest.

@Meow

Da, da, da~
Aspen played a soft note.
Today was a beautiful day. The kind of beautiful that said ‘Today will be perfect’- at least to Aspen. Everything was a little dream-like with her.
The sunlight was warm, peeking through the trees in ever-changing patterns. A light breeze tickled at her cheeks and rustled her hair. It felt like the forest was singing to her, and in turn she’d play it a melody.
The birds whistles and chirps gave a little more sound too. They were a bit chattery today, which Aspen found funny. What gossip did the birds even have?
She giggled.
Taking a last glance upwards, she smiled to herself, and continued on forwards. She’d already helped as much as she could, and had gone out for a walk. Begrudgingly, her brother didn’t want to come with her though.
She brought her flute up.
Da, dada, da~
She played her usual tune. A soft melody, but with a strong beat. A song that was similar to a waltz, and a nice drop towards the end. It made Aspen feel like she was being picked up off her feet, and was flying through the sky.

@Mojack group

Jyri slowed his pace pretty quickly, having to remember he wasn’t the best at pushing back his pain. It wasn’t preventing him from moving - though he’d most certainly prefer to not be moving at the moment - but it was a wound that was going to slow him down a fair amount.
He stopped when he heard another noise. It wasn’t loud, not extremely - it was different from the chirps of the birds he’d heard before. Jyri stopped for a moment, the song reaching his ears. It didn’t take him long to have a hunch on what the noise was from. An instrument? Flute? It was a nice sounding tune, he’d have to admit.
Jyri now knew that he wasn’t completely alone. Instruments needed people to play, didn’t they? Unless this was a self playing instrument - which he highly doubted - there had to be someone out there. But he didn’t make his way over just yet. There were still plenty of questions in his mind, like who was this person associated with? Friend or foe?
There was no way for him to know by himself, though. Jyri stumbled on forwards, then stopped again, nervous as to making his approach. If he should even approach to begin with. But then again, he had no idea how big this forest is. If this other person is out here, maybe they’d have a better sense of direction than he did. Pressing his hand against his wound once more, he gritted his teeth and forced himself to head in direction of the tune.

@Meow

Aspen twirled onwards- her step seemingly lightened by the melody. She wished she could cast something so the instrument played itself and she could dance on and on.
She closed her eyes a bit more, sinking into the melody. On second thought, she was a bit glad that her brother hadn’t come. He’d probably be complaining at this point. While alone, Aspen could be as care-free as possible.
She twirled on her heel again- abruptly smacking her face into a tree branch. Her flute smack against the tree’s trunk, and she put her hands to her face.
A noisy bird flew from the tree, and Aspen smiled, remembering her comment earlier. She was glad she couldn’t tell what the birds were saying. She’d probably go crazy hearing their constant chitter chatter!
She picked up her flute, brushed the leaves out of her hair, and carried on.
As she began her next note, she paused. Were those footsteps? This wasn’t in direction of the clan, and she couldn’t think of anyone returning.
“Hello?” She called out, “Is somebody there?”
