The Kingdom of Praven is in a state of civil war. It has been for the past seven years. For decades the prosperous kingdom has been ruled by an ‘Evil King’. He is a usurper to the throne, having married one of the princesses and then slaughtering the royal family, leaving him the only suitable heir. There is no secret bastard son or daughter, no drop of royal blood left in a warm body. Even those under suspicion of being related were squashed, even those who were the subject of baseless rumors. Revon is efficient, ruthless, and brutally effective.

There was discontent of course, with his bloody ascension to the throne, but not enough to warrant a full scale uprising. The King ruled with an iron fist, strict in his laws and his decrees, but it wasn’t insufferable. Peasants had lived through worse kings before, and likely would again. They could let off enough stress with their rumors and idle talk of his monstrousness. This lasted until the second decade of his rule.

No one quite knew what had happened. Some claimed a demon had devoured the king's soul, others that he had always been a demon, still more that it was simple greed, more poisonous to a man's blood than even the deadly brittlebane plant, which could rot a man's skin seconds after touching it. It started out small, a few raised taxes here or there with no clear answer given as to why, then it increased. More decrees, more gold demanded, more debt to pile up.

Revon was newly dubbed The Black Gold King, a horrified echo of the dark blood spilled as people struggled to pay off their debts. Those that couldn’t were executed, enslaved, or.. Joined the army. If you enlisted all your debts were forgiven. But why? The people wondered. There was no war to fight beyond border skirmishes and a petty squabble with landowning lords from neighboring countries. Why?

There was no answer given, just more taxes handed out. The final straw was land confiscation, as is often the case. You can mistreat the people as much as you wish, starve them, beat them, cheat them out of wages. But take their land? That was war.

Revolution was a whisper at first, then a roar. Peasants and defectors from the army constitute the revolt Neighbor against neighbor, as the King still has his better trained army, well fed, well paid, and to some degree, loyal, as these men are given the opportunity to take care of their families.

Yet there is a prophecy, one that is both strengthening and disheartening depending on the viewpoint. Revon can not be defeated until his final treasure has been destroyed. Else the Kingdom would continue its internal fight well into the next generations, tearing the already damaged lands into irreparable pieces. The goal is to find this ‘final treasure’, destroy it, and bring the war to an end.

My character will be the general leading the revolt, and has been fighting nearly since the beginning of the seven year war. Anyone who decides to join can discuss with me how to fit their characters in, I’m willing to be super flexible as long as you are willing to be the same for me! We’re here to have fun after all!

Rules:

  • Good grammar is a must! I expect long responses from everyone, try to make it detailed, if you want to get whimsical or medieval, go for it! Bonus points for you! Mwah!
  • Gore and violence will be expected, we’re in a war zone people, not Derbyshire.
  • Please be patient with everyone else, we’re all doing our best. Characters can be jerks but please try to be kind and respectful out of character.
  • PDA is fine, but anything past that point goes straight to the DM’s if you so wish. I personally will not, as I don’t like writing anything like that.
  • Swearing is fine! No real slurs, but if you can make up a fantasy one, go for it! Still do try to keep that to a minimum though, unless your character's whole thing is fantasy racist. (Why are you roleplaying that? Idk, you do you boo.)
  • I might ask for a writing sample if I don’t know you! I reserve the right to say no.
  • (Uhhh am I missing anything else? If I am that goes here lol)

I’ll post character sheets and answer any questions in the morning, as I won’t get back to this until then! I'm exhausted and need my eight hours. (Why am I making it now you ask? … Shhhh-)

(Ah, Rhys, sorry, I'd like to be able to start this rp sometime this week. But conveniently, I'm pretty sure I'm in a rp with every one of you, so I think we an skip writing samples! I would like slightly longer responses from some of you, but I know everyone works with what they have, don't feel pressured to write whole essays alright? XD I'll get a character sheet template up soon if everyone would like to start brainstorming!)

Name: Luan
Age: 23
Gender: Female
Sexuality: Lesbian
Physical Appearance: https://pin.it/2RVuX0U ⎮⎮⎮ 6'1", eyes that change from a deep, dark brown to a light, pale amber color as the day goes on.
Clothing: https://pin.it/3nq02Zq for when out on missions ⎮ https://pin.it/5yKZqZQ is the sort of aesthetic she chooses for daily wear.
Personality: Very playful, she loves to bet. She also loves to drink out at pubs and has been known to start full-on beat downs whenever a man so much as attempts to flirt with her, whether it be verbal or physical. Enjoys starless and moonless nights.
Powers (If applicable, if not, just put talents here): Very talented with knives, daggers and shortswords. Semi-talented with a shortbow and crossbow. Talented with hand-to-hand combat. Talented at escaping and at parkour. Very flexible and fast. Very good pickpocket.
Preferred fighting style: Strikes from the shadows then disappears again. She never misses her targets. If there are no shadows, she's usually flipping around the battlefield from person to person, snapping their necks and driving spikes into their skulls, or driving daggers into their hearts through their backs.
Backstory/History: Homeless since she was a small child, since the King had seized her parents lands after killing them when they wouldn't agree to it. She learned the ropes of being a thief from a similar group of people, before joining the revolution.

@Emmrii

Name: Kendra Cadel
Age: 27
Gender: Female
Sexuality: Straight
Physical Appearance: Kendra stands at 5’7” and weighs around 129 lbs. She has thick dark hair that is usually pulled back in either a Gibson tuck or a low bun and green eyes that are slightly downturned. She’s Caucasian with somewhat strong cheekbones and a slight tan. (Here’s face reference picture since I can be bad at explaining it: https://pin.it/380hyCJ )
Clothing: While she does to wear some simple dresses, she prefers to wear pants along with a button-up shirt or a shirt with more puffy sleeves. She tends have a more scholarly or almost steam-punk looks. Here’s a few references: https://pin.it/4DqLG0B , https://pin.it/7GpyVyI
Personality: Kendra is known to be a very adventurous, free spirited, and strong-willed woman. As her father was a traveling bard, she has never stayed in one place for long, and she will often go out sailing for days on the ocean. Besides the fun, free spirited side to her personality, Kendra also tends to be a very lonely person. With her constant traveling, she’s been alone for most of her life. She also tends to be more impulsive, and it will occasionally get her into trouble.
Powers: Could be considered a sorcerer; has multiple different abilities
Preferred fighting style: Kendra prefers more hand to hand combat, using a knife that she received from her father.
Conditions: None
Backstory/History: As I’ve mentioned before, her father was a bard, and Kendra would often travel around with him. When she grew older, she left her father’s care to go out on her own, but the king’s strict rule has made it difficult to travel outside of the kingdom.

Name: Calix ("Cal") Alastair
Age: 24
Gender: AFAB, she/her
Sexuality: Biromantic Ace

Physical Appearance: https://ibb.co/xJsTCT6 , https://ibb.co/cvz1Db4 (some drawings I've done of her) / Stands at 6'4, wide-shouldered and sturdy. Has three scars on her face (illustrated in the photos); one from a fight with her brother and the other two from an animal encounter that she was too young to remember. Her eyes are a light brown, and her skin has a warm, tawny complexion with dirty blond hair that is usually styled in the way that it is drawn in the photos, down, or in a low ponytail/braid. Her eyes are upturned and appear intimidating until she smiles. Calloused, rough hands.

Clothing: Hard to explain, but I'll try. Usually wearing a black shirt with sleeves that go down to her elbows, and a fingerless cotton undershirt that covers her palms and is the color of leather. Her cloak (if she is wearing it, which she doesn't usually while fighting) is the same color as her undershirt but is a lighter beige color on the inside if that makes sense. The sort of tank top thing over the black shirt is the same color is an off-white. She either wears black leggings that stop at the knee under a skirt tied around her waist, but more often these sort of brown cargo pants. I will probably have a full-body drawing of her soon so I can explain it better. Has a spear that is carried diagonally on her back, covered partially by her cloak when it is being carried.

Personality: When in combat, Calix appears stoic and menacing. She is very determined and tends to tune out while fighting, only focusing on her sense of sight and touch. Outside of combat, though, she is very sisterly and friendly. Cal appreciates physical touch a lot (whether that's platonic or romantic, it's all the same to her) and sometimes invades other people's space, but will stop when told to. It is in her nature, though, so it sometimes takes a few reminders. Protective, but trusting and trustworthy. Rushes into combat before bothering to think of other solutions. Generally doesn't see much of a reason to hide emotions. Often feels homesick, which is the only thing she is somewhat reluctant to admit since she feels it is childish.

Talents: Good memory, very strong (physically), optimistic and energetic, good at recognizing the needs of other people.
Preferred fighting style: Blunt force if she isn't using her spear, close combat. Uses the handle of the spear sometimes to hit, and doesn't hesitate to use her hands if she needs to. Her aim is subpar so she doesn't tend to throw the spear or use arrows. Unbalanced and messy, bad dexterity. Doesn't talk or listen while fighting.
Backstory/History: Raised in a family of hunters, Calix is the second-youngest of five children. Before the rapid tax raises, they her family got by selling the meat and skin of animals- but soon that wasn't enough. Her older brothers began having to enlist in the military, which infuriated her. The last time she saw her brother, Aster, was during a fight after she'd failed to convince him not to enlist.
She forced herself into the revolution a year after it'd started.

Other: I don't think so, but tell me if I should add, get rid of, modify, or clarify anything!
Another thing, I'm fine with her being shipped if I'm asked first

(Ahhh, loving everyone's characters so far! To simplify things for us, I think we can think of everyone so far as 'classes' overseeing different parts of the military. Calix can represent the foot soldiers, Kendra maybe the mages if you decide to make her magic Emmrii, and Luan the sneaky sneaky spies, anyone elses characters that join can do their own branch or work under these characters. Everyone needs a good right-hand man. Or woman. General coming soon!)

@ScotchTapeWorm group

Name: General Kerrim Levisay
Age: 30
Gender: Male
Sexuality: Pansexual Demiromantic
Physical Appearance: Kerrim is a BIG man. Standing at 6’5” and 260 lbs, he’s a block of muscle to be honest. Steel gray eyes seem just slightly too small for his face. A strong nose, crooked at the base from having been broken once upon a time. Dark brown hair cut very short and kept neatly. Broad shoulders and frame, Kerrim moves more fluidly and comfortably when he’s wearing armor, as if it were his natural state. His face is reminiscent of a solid block of granite, hard and firm. Despite being just thirty, he has frown lines around his mouth and eyes, yet Kerrim has a sort of regal nobility about him. Perhaps its his sense of confidence.
Clothing: Kerrim is always at least partially armored. He wears metal greaves and gauntlets, the metal etched with light feather designs. The gauntlets come just short of his elbow to increase mobility. He wears dyed black leather clothes underneath, thin and almost form fitting for just the slight added protection. A chestplate with only one pauldron and a dark blue half cape. It’s easily detachable in case he gets into an actual fight wearing it, so it won’t be a hindrance. The helmet for the armor has a T slot for vision and is mostly unadorned, as Kerrim isn’t a big fan of actually wearing it. His colors are black and dark blue, and when out of armor he wears simple, but formal clothes, a black, high collared shirt, simple pants. He is never seen without his sword.
Personality: Kerrim is a leader first and a man second. It’s in his blood to lead, and he feels his responsibility strongly. Every casualty bothers him, and he tries his best to resolve things bloodlessly. He’s stern, a bit strict, and very intelligent. Kerrim tries to be respectful and empathetic of others, but is aware some of the best decisions are the most heartless. While stern himself, he’s indulgent in others when it comes to humor, he likes hearing banter around him often, reminds him why he fights. His determination and will are made of iron.
Talents: Delegation, strategy, and leadership. Also fighting, god is he good at fighting. He’s had practice since he was a young man, talented in swordplay and formations.
Preferred fighting style: He can fight with a spear or bow, but the sword will always be his favorite. Cavalry fighting is also acceptable.
Backstory/History: Kerrim was a part of the Kings military as part of the new initiative of debt forgiveness for enlistment. Debts were handed down from parents to children, so when his parents passed, Kerrim found himself suddenly under a debt he couldn’t hope to pay off in this lifetime or the next. His parents had been carpenters and taught him the trade, but it wasn’t enough to keep them afloat. Their business had been struggling before the taxes had hit them. His wife had died in childbirth, and Kerrim couldn’t bear the thought of his newborn daughter having to grow up inheriting his debt as well. So he left her with a friend's family, and signed up for the army. He was young, talented, and most importantly, driven. With a knack for strategy Kerrim rose quickly becoming a Captain in his early years. He was contacted through a network of people, who were looking through the King’s army for those sympathetic to their cause. He was promised a place in the rebel army and he managed to convince several of his friends to defect as well. When the rebellion started, Kerrim planned his exit strategy carefully, defecting and taking several plans and soldiers with him, which were useful for the first year. It allowed him to keep his men safe and alive, along with showing he had a mind for military stratagem, a rarity in a peasants uprising. By the third year he was Brigadier General, and by the fourth he was General. He’s been fighting ever since then, working with what he’s given.
Other: His horse's name is Penelope :)
