(I also apologize a bit for how Cleopatra is going to act in the beginning 😅 If I ever do too much with her, just tell me and I'll tone her down.)
Cleopatra reclined in her seat, sipping languidly from the flask of wine in her hand. Her ringed fingers glinted in the setting sun’s rays, and she soaked up the sunlight and limelight simultaneously. Even in her homeland of Allikos, Cleopatra attracted many stares. Some were because she was the queen. Most were because she was ineffably beautiful. But all were wondering why she was doing what she was doing. She could feel their judgment.
The queen of Allikos was the subject of conversation across the continent, having overthrown two of her neighboring kingdoms in five weeks. The conquest had been a challenging one, but now Cleopatra was relaxing as the only thrice-crowned queen to ever exist. She had been coronated three times and was a thrice-crowned queen of Allikos, Peidest, and Clarion. She refused to stop until every nation took a knee before her throne and her crowns.
Though the crowns were not something Cleopatra preferred to wear unless it was for a ceremonial purpose. In fact, as a representation of each nation, she was a queen of, a precious gemstone representing the previous royal colors was added to the golden choker she wore around her throat. It already had three sparkling jewels hanging from it. A ruby (her homeland of Allikos), an emerald (Peidest), and a pale yellow topaz (Clarion). When Reinerre surrendered, the next nation on her agenda, a sapphire gem would be added to her necklace. There would be four more kingdoms in her way once Reinerre fell, but Cleopatra was unfazed. She would conquer, just as she always had done. Every king of his land would be forced to give her his crown and title. The thought made her dizzy with excitement.
But here she was now, home from her current mission, and unapologetically looking for someone to bed tonight. The alcohol from her drink was beginning to create a lovely haze in her mind, and she scanned the people milling about beneath her dais. Her handmaiden, Charmion, was never far off from her side, and as Cleopatra rose to her feet, the dark-haired woman was ready to follow her and attain whatever the queen might need.
Cleopatra's bare feet strode confidently over the cobblestone path, and the bangles around her wrists and ankles chimed together with every step as she approached her target for the evening – a young woman with gorgeous black hair framing her soft pale face. Cleopatra’s interest was peaked as she smoothly fell into step beside the girl and cooed seductively, “Hello darling. What are you doing here all alone on a night like this?"
(Oops,, I forgot lol 💀 I’ll just take that off and leave it for interpretation since I don’t want to fall down a Pinterest rabbit hole-)
(Okay lol)
Amethyst was just taking an evening stroll, as she usually did on nice nights like these. She liked to be there to watch the sunset, and it was nice to get the exercise in, too. She kept her head down and avoided talking to anyone. She didn’t know who she could trust, and in her experience, she couldn’t trust anybody. So naturally, she was a little startled when someone approached her with no warning. She made a soft, startled, squeaky noise and turned and stared at the woman for a while, then finally spoke. “I- I was just, uhh… I was taking a walk. Yeah.” Amethyst’s voice was a little shaky, and she looked nervous and confused.
Cleopatra's eyes widened, and she smirked slightly at the girl's little squeak. "I'm sorry," she murmured. "I didn't mean to startle you." But she found herself confused as the other girl stared at her a moment before responding. This… wasn't the kind of reaction the queen normally got. Her eyes roamed over the girl and then returned to her face.
"I see," she replied, still sipping from her flask. "Would you mind at all if I joined you?" Then, on a whim, she added, "Don't you recognize me at all?"
Amethyst started to fidget nervously. She looked down and mumbled a little. “It’s fine…” She looked up again when the woman asked to join her. She didn’t really want her to, but she didn’t have the courage to say no. “Uh.. sure, I don’t mind.” She just hoped it wouldn’t go south, though it was unlikely this would turn out well. Her expression filled with slight panic at the woman’s last question. “I- n-no, I don’t, not really… but I’m really terrible at remembering faces, should I recognize you? I’m sorry.” She spoke pretty quickly, making panicked gestures with her hands.
Immediately, Cleopatra noticed the fidgeting. She glanced back to make sure Charmion was still following them, and when she looked back, all she saw was panic on the woman's face. Normally, the sight of fear in someone's eyes was inspiring to the Conquering Queen, especially if it was the eyes of a former ruler as she claimed their crown and sentenced them to execution. But this… this was different.
All thoughts of bedding this woman disappeared. She was much too pure for Cleopatra to think about touching, especially with her calloused hands. The queen had never met anyone like her before. She could see in the woman's eyes that her panic was genuine and not an act to get the queen's attention.
"No, darling," Cleopatra assured her gently. "Don't worry about it. I just thought I would join you. The sky is beautiful tonight."
Behind them, Charmion picked up pieces of the queen's words, and a curious smile appeared on her lips. She'd known Cleopatra for years. Never had she seen her queen act this way. Normally, she made people kneel and apologize for not remembering her.
(My heart,)
Amethyst seemed to relax slightly, dropping her hands back to her sides. She closed her eyes and took a deep breath. “Oh… okay, then.” She sounded relieved, although she only barely let her guard down. She could turn on you at any second, no matter how nice she seems. Don’t trust her. She looked up at the sky and nodded. “Yeah, the sky is really pretty tonight…”
(Soft Cleopatra 🥰 >)
Cleopatra herself relaxed as the other woman did. As amusing as it was that she hadn't been recognized by this girl – her wealth dripped all over her from her gown to her jewelry – the queen decided to let it go. See what it was like to spend time with someone who wasn't always cowering in fear of her title.
Her eyes, however, didn't lift to the sky as the woman's did. She instead focused on the sweetness of her face, the paleness of her skin, and the brown of her eyes. As she looked a bit closer, the queen realized that they were actually two slightly separate shades of brown.
"Not half as pretty as you are, my dear," Cleopatra remarked, still not above flirting a little.
