It's been a long time since I've been active on notebook, but here I am again! I just finished the first three books of The Locked Tomb series by Tamsyn Muir and the vibes are immaculate. I'd love to start an rp very roughly based on the first book, but whoever joins doesn't have to have read it, we'll just see where the story takes us! I emphasize these are not my original ideas.
The setting:
We begin on a habitable-yet-derelict planet in a foreign solar system 10,000 years in the future. Our own technology is ancient, crumbling, and humans have reverted back to medieval ways of life (without the sexism, racism, etc). Modern weapons exist, but are used on more populated planets.
There are nine planets—called houses—all with unique cultures and values. The ninth house is the most religous, led by a family of priests who guard a mysterious tomb buried under the Prime Temple. While the high priests are indefinitely preoccupied with [redacted], their daughter is considered regent.
A fraction of the population throughout the solar system are blessed with necromantic powers. The ninth house, for example, is associated with bone magic. Those blessed with necromantic powers are called adepts. Each leader of the nine houses is an adept, and each leader has a non-adept companion specially trained for the sword, who are called cavaliers.
Main characters:
Character A: A, an adept, is the Reverend Daughter tasked with holding the ninth house together. She lives a lonely life among other cloaked priests wandering the halls of her home, the Prime Temple. She takes audience with disgruntled civilians, gives orders to her generals who handle issues outside of the temple, but otherwise sits as the figurehead of her people's faith. Oh, and she keeps trying to kill character B.
Character B: B is an orphan, taken in by A's parents some 2 decades ago out of nothing but pity. She lives a peasant's life, though she resides in a far wing of the temple. One of the generals thought it prudent to teach B the ways of swordplay, should the reverand daughter ever need protection. Why does A despise B? Perhaps a prior friendship turned sour, or a grudge for something B did in the past, or simply because B is an outsider? Take your pick.
Plot:
When the emperor of the nine houses sends for the leader of each of the planets and their cavalier to meet at the first house for a murder-mystery party (which then turns into an actual murder mystery), a problem arises. A's cavalier has become as similarly preoccupied with [redacted] as A's parents. And so A is in need of a replacement. Unfortunately, B is the most logical choice.
Rules:
- This rp will be rated R purely for any gore that might be mentioned during necromancy or fight scenes. If any spicy scenes arise it will be fade to black.
- I would only be comfortable writing with someone 18+
- Multiple paragraph replies are welcome but not required, but please write at least one paragraph to keep the story going. This won't be a very enforced rule so no stress.
- Let me know if you have any triggers that we should specifically avoid.
Edit: Changed "Cathedral" to "Prime Temple" to describe a more vague religious structure.
