I’m thinking pretty young, like 3-8. I was looking for neurodiverse kids books and I realized that most of the kids books about autism are written by neurotypicals. I don’t feel like making it for an older age group, since I want it to be short. Anything helps! Character names (either female or nonbinary character, haven’t decided), tips, things to consider (if you’re neurodivergent yourself).
Helo, I have ADHD and one thing to consider is that neurodivergency isn’t necessarily something to be proud of, but you should also not be ashamed of it. For example, am I proud of the fact that I have the attention span of a chicken nugget? No, of course not, but I don’t see it as something to shame myself for. Instead of wearing it as a badge of honor, just accept it as a part of what makes you, you.
As for names, I’d definitely say to keep it something simple, like Lily or Piper. Something that will appeal to your target audience is definitely simplicity.
