forum I need a story prompt for a book!

Hello! I need a prompt for a book, preferably, but a short story prompt could work as well. I would prefer fiction, historical fiction, or mystery. Please keep them clean and kid friendly! Thanks in advance! :)

Okay, I've seen this and I'm working on it. I'll be back in a bit with prompts.

A little extra clarification: do you want a whole idea for a novel, or just something to get your started on writing one, and you can figure the rest out? Do you need characters?

@alice, I just saw your reply, sorry! I think I just need something to get me started on a novel. I never really have trouble coming up with characters, but plot is something I definitely need help with. Thanks so much!

Alrighty! I've got one idea of my own, and a few places to find other prompts and inspiration :)

My idea: Your MC and their civilization live inside a glass dome/bubble. (Maybe it's in space, maybe it's underground, who knows?) Outside the dome is uninhabitable, either because there is no breathable air, or because there's something out there….maybe both. You decide. Your MC is walking near the wall of the dome/bubble, and far away from the city, in the furthest corner, there's a message scratched on the glass from outside. Whatever it is makes your MC terrified. Maybe the dome will be broken and the outside will come in. Maybe it already has. What happens next? (Very full of holes, I know. It's not even half-baked, it's more like one-eighth baked, to be honest XD You said you liked mystery, so hopefully this is something that intrigues you?)
