I think he was actually intended to be a party member but they scrapped it.
I was thinking about Picky but what would he do? Do less than half an hp of damage? Hit Gigyas with a stick?

They would later use this idea in Mother 3, so Lucas' perfect doggo became a permanent party member.

I would be more sad if Doggo died…. I called him Doggo on my first play of the game, that’s why I call him that. You probably don’t care about that though I’m always attached emotionally to animals more then humans, maybe that’s because I am always surrounded by cats and dogs…

Jokes aside, I agree. Let's face it, the first two games are the only ones we're gonna get in the west.
Unless of course, there's a remake of Mother 3. Then there's a high chance the game will finally get an official translation, but the chances of a remake are slim.
