I've got 10+ years of horse back riding experience under my belt, and in addition to that I have also have owned a horse for the past 5 or so years. If anyone has any questions about riding horses, horse care, terminology, or anything else pertaining to horses that you can think of, I can (probably) give you an answer.
So yeah, just come at me with your horse questions and I'll see what I can do!
Out of curiosity (I got someone's opinion on this but more opinions can't hurt) Would it be bad to feed a horse part of a chocolate chip granola bar minus the chocolate?
It probably wouldn't hurt since a lot of stuff that goes into granola bars can typically be found in horse treats (like oats and whatnot). But I think ideally it would be better to give them something that doesn't have chocolate chips in it.
Also, in an irl situation, it would be better to double check with the owner before you feed them anything (and if the owner isn't available, then just play it safe and don't feed it).
Thanks for the reply, but I'm back with more horsey questions! I have a friend, and the two of us do a lot of horse camp. Sadly, these weeks of camp don't really prepare either of us for actual horse problems, since it's only one week out of the year. We both do some barn volunteering, but no riding. That leaves us with a lot of questions, and we kind of have a list of things.
How would you explain canter leads, and how to get into that canter with the correct lead? (we think we understand this, but we aren't 100% sure)
If your horse is on the correct lead then the horse's inside front leg will be extending farther than the outside one. That's pretty much all it is. To ask for the correct lead, you would move your outside leg just behind the girth and your inside leg would stay where it is.
I see… I think we've been overcomplicating things a little bit. Thank you!
Ooooooooo if it's possible do you think you could explain to me how one gets over the smell of horse pee combined with their bedding? My friend and I did some barn work during a camp this last summer, and the smell was almost unbearable. You mentioned you also owned a horse, so uh hopefully you have tips. I'm not likely to do some more barn work anytime soon, but any tips would help
