Hi! As I worldbuild, I was hoping to store some of my research on this site as well. For example, when I create items that are historically inspired, is there a template that would allow me to copy/paste/screenshot only my research, to differentiate it from the new item I've created? I'm always confusing myself about what I've created versus what is historic inspiration.
Or, do most people simply add a new category to the Item template, and store hyperlinks and text there? I noticed a Documents option under the writing tab - is there a way to save files such as PDF pages for reference?
Thanks in advance! I'm really enjoying this site.
Hey there! I'm very happy to hear things are helpful so far!
Great questions. Right now there's no way to upload documents or files to the site other than images (screenshots would work), but here are a couple ways other users have told me they're storing research like this:
- Creating a "Research" category in the template lets you add fields to share links to resources, copy/paste text in, etc, as you said
- Creating research documents (either for individual pages or a big document to link to multiple pages) and storing research in there; you can link pages to documents to automatically populate a "Documents" tab on worldbuilding pages that'll link to e.g. your research document(s)
- For more structured research (for example, storing information about someone a character is based on), you can also create a separate character page with all that research and link it from your fictional character by typing @ in any field to bring up the page link menu. You can also tag pages with keywords like "research" or "original content" to see what's research and what's not.
I definitely do want to add more research-specific features in the future, though. I have a few related things on the roadmap, like being able to upload your own files and documents, but I'm not sure when they'll be ready for release. I'll take this as feedback and prioritize accordingly though. :)
Thank you so much, @andrew (Our Supreme Lord and Overseer)! Those are all great solutions and I will probably try a combination of all three. I'm excited about any upcoming research features as well! Thanks for making such a fantastic site. It's helped me not only to present information, but to also organize my thoughts and develop ideas as I get them, making sense out of the chaos in my head :)
Very happy to hear that! :)
Happy worldbuilding!
