I would like to add a field ("Group Associations") to a Character category ("Social"), and instead of it just being a freeform text field, I'd like it to store links to groups I have defined in my Universe. This would operate the same way as the field "Best Friends" in the same category, but instead of storing links to specific Characters it would store links to specific Groups. Is there a way for me to do this on my own? Is this perhaps a Feature Request?

Hey there! Unfortunately there's not a way to add additional link fields right now (since there's a ton of behind-the-scenes stuff that happens with them), but it's on the to-do list to add at some point. In the meantime, the best solution is probably to use the @-mention functionality that lets you mention your other pages by pressing @ in the text field. It'll create a clickable link and sync the page name, but it doesn't add the association to the other page's "References" tab (yet).

Sorry about that! I'll take this as feedback and make sure it gets accounted for when prioritizing features in the future!

@andrew (Our Supreme Lord and Overseer) thanks for the quick and informative response! The interface you use to modify the categories and fields for the entry types is SO amazing to me, and it's one of the reasons I've started supporting the site.

I can imagine that it is really complicated to let a user define a link-storing field dynamically. I’m glad it's on the list, but I understand it will take a while.

Instead of that, can I put in a feature request? Please add a field titled “Group Member” to the Social Category of the character entry format. This field should store links to Groups that have been defined using the Group entry. And since the leader position is tracked separately in the Group entry format, it might make people happy to have a “Group Leader” field as well. Of course, both of these fields should be able to store more than one link, in case the character in question is a member of several groups or even a leader within several organizations.

I’m requesting this because I feel that connecting a character with a group should be easy to define from within the Create/Edit Character interface. Both group membership and group leadership exist as associations within the database already, but as it stands, I can only define them from the Create/Edit Group interface. To me, the Social category seems to be the most sensible category inside the Create/Edit Character interface for this feature to be added.

In the meantime, thanks for the tip about using the mention feature. I was aware of it, and I can make do with that for now. Again, I have to say, I love the interface you’ve built for your site. I’ve used several campaign management and world-building tools in the past, and yours has come out on top. The customization ability is incredible! I can’t wait to see how timelines turn out.

Thanks,
