Ok, so I'm writing a new story, and one of the main characters is born into a family that lives in poverty. This is a realistic fiction. I can't stop worrying about whether it's alright for me to write this character when I've never experienced the hardships he has to go through. But… this story means a lot to me, and I want it to mean a lot to others too. Any advice or tips? Is this ok for me to write?

I think it should be fine for you to write. People often say not to tell stories that you yourself have no experience with but as long as you do appropriate research into the lifestyle and hardships and don't make any assumptions about a life in poverty it should be okay, at least in my opinion.
It's best to approach this sort of thing without any predispositions. I guess just keep an open mind.
