The court was bustling with preparations for the arrival of the queen Ada's sister, Astrid. Ada herself sat upon her throne looking, or at least trying to look pretty. Let's just say god hadn't given her the virtue of beauty, or any other virtues actually. She was a nasty piece of work, sent over from the neighbouring kingdom and married off to the king to settle the thousand year old rivalry. Jasper, the king, was not sat on his throne next to Ada but was lounging on the shays, surrounded by most of the women of the court. Each one of them, today in particular, was wearing a low-cut gown with slightly hitched skirts to display their cleavages and slender ankles. It was a rather pathetic practice but it happened none the less. As servants swept through the halls carrying decorations the husbands of these vain ladies were whispering worriedly between themselves, careful not to be heard by the gossiping maids. The court was uneasy after the discovery of Diana's body in the lake, a reminder that no one, not even his mistress, was safe from jasper's bipolar tendencies. The events of the day would only prove what they already knew.
The newest edition to the court, was still drinking whiskey in her nightclothes, a forbidden practice for a woman but the thought never did and never would cross her mind. Trinity slumped against the wall, dreading the formalities of the night before her, " what an empty waste of time" she muttered, draining her glass and flinging it back onto the tray, not caring if it could be heard from across the earth. Bursting into the room, Mary, Trinity's personal maid, was horrified to spot the half empty whiskey bottle beside the bed but quickly realising that she would be wasting her breath she simply locked it back into it's designated cupboard and set on picking a gown for her disobedient lady.
The servants had done quite a splendid job in their preparations. each golden lantern was hung expertly in an orderly fashion, to give an warm, even glow across the hall. Flowers had been arranged to form majestic stallions and graceful swans and wine could be found on every table, which was very important to keep the disinterested guests content. Chatter bubbled through the crowds of ladies, lords, barons, baronesses, princes and princesses. The atmosphere was light and cheerful. For now at least. The jolly music seemed to quieten as the most relevant lady appeared at the top of the stairway. And do not be mistaken, this lady I speak of isn't Astrid, the queen's sister, oh no! No one was particularly interested in her, she was only there to show her alliance was still strong, which it wasn't. The lady everyone had been waiting for was no one other than Trinity herself, the whiskey loving, rule breaking lady that had only arrived a week before. The reason for this will be revealed later. Trinity was stunning in a black gown, as dark as her hair and eyes. The bodice and skirts were made of the finest lace in the continent and the high neck and sleeves were crafted from a light tulle. Taking her time, she surveyed the room, making sure to look each and every guest in the eye, lingering only on Ada's and Astrid's eyes and enjoying the pure rage she had inspired in them. Then dainty as ever she made her way down the stairs with no assistance from the possible bachelors lining the stairs, awaiting her arrival. realising that all eyes were still on her, she declared "please, enjoy your evening, I've nothing I'd like to make you aware of other than my presence", and with that, the conversation continued.
As the evening came to a close, Jasper gathered the attention of the court to make his final announcement. " I'm very glad you have all been able to make it here to welcome back to our court Astrid Angevin, princess of country name" he smiled. A distracted applause was all he received from the guests, who were far more interested in what was rumoured to happen in the next few minutes. " Now before I dismiss you to your homes I have an announcement I would like to make." he declared with the confidence of a lion in a fight with a chicken. "Trinity, please step forward". The crowd parted eagerly. " As you all know" now addressing the whole court, servants and all, " Dianna was found dead in the lake this morning, and to my heart that brings great pain but Dianna always believed that when suffering from grief we should always move on as quickly as possible" he proclaimed with a great emphasis on his "suffering heart" and the crowd groaned unappreciatively. "So I would like you, Trinity to become my mistress" he beamed now with such a perverted joy that the crowds began to shift a little bit with comfortableness. But Trinity, she laughed. And not an embarrassed giggle either, a large, hearty laugh. One that came from the pits of her stomach. Jasper's smile started to waiver. Now back in control of her emotions she replied in a sharp clear voice, " You want
me to become your whore, and why is that, don't you have a loving wife to entertain you" she mused as the king looked worriedly at the gaping faces at his feet. " oh of course I forgot you never consummated the marriage" she giggled. Gasps escaped almost every mouth in the room, this was news to all of them. Ada turned crimson and rushed out of the room, pushing through the crowd. " but then where is your old mistress, I did hear you were getting a little tired of your one trick pony, so maybe you decided to rid yourself of her and set upon coaxing a newer, younger woman into your chambers." Stop right there", bellowed the king, but the guards were in too much shock to move. "unfortunately for you my good sir, I have much better things to do than to be you lap dog" she chuckled. Unfortunately the guards had pulled themselves together and grabbed her by the arms, ripping the delicate tulle in doing so. They dragged her away and under the sheet of onyx hair that covered her bowed head, she still wore her pretty little smile, for what the king didn't know, along with many other things, was that he had just displeased the myth who was simply known as the women who even Lucifer feared.
