@murphysgirl
Hey everyone, here's a slam poem I wrote a while ago. Hope you enjoy!
2:00 PM
On a Wednesday afternoon
Equals math class
Boring stuff, boring teacher
Boring homework I did already
Boring friends, boring room
All I can do is think
Today’s subject is you
Not the graphs on the whiteboard
But I’m bored
So I think of you in white
Even though black leather jackets suit you much better
So do motorcycles and sunglasses
Hugs and crazy friends
Love from afar
That’s where my mind is
My hands in your hair
My head on your chest
The scent of your cologne
Sticking in the back of my throat
So I can’t breathe
And it’s heaven
Love from afar
Yeah, that’s where my mind is
Until the teacher says,
“Pay attention”
And turns back to the whiteboard
And talks about square roots
But you are my square
Because you times me equals us squared
And you are also my root
Grounding me, bringing me back
When I am too far gone
And the Fibonacci sequence
Is so clear in those dozen red roses
And you are my reflection
Across the x-axis of that graph
So let me go on a tangent:
If it’s a sine to love you
I don’t want to be your opposite
I’d rather be your adjacent
Because you will never be
My secant choice
And function f may not equal function g
But function you, it equals function me
And I can’t function without you
Fractions are easy
Two halves make a whole
And you are the better half
The stronger half
The half with the humor and wit
To make everything seem okay
Even when I think it’s the end of the world
And it is the end of the world
Because my teacher has caught me daydreaming
And my parents will be appalled
When they see my grades
But mushroom clouds and fire
Report cards and college
Don’t have anything on me
Because it’s 2:00 PM
On a Wednesday afternoon
I’m sitting here in math class
And I’m dreaming of you
