Ok, so I have these two characters who are each others love interests. One of them (Maliah) Has the appearance of 12/13 year old, but is over two hundred and the Other (San) is 15ish. Let me know what you think of these two. And ask any questions you might have about them. Thanks

@Lynnnnn

Well someone who is around 15 might not be interested in someone who looks 12 or 13, even if they are over 2 hundred, but I think other than that the relationship sounds good.

The thing that worries me right off the bat is how young the characters are. While this could be a great idea for someone a few years older, just reading 12 years old makes me cringe no matter how old the character really is. At twelve I was still in seventh grade making really bad fashion decisions (plaid shorts and graphic tees with cute school supplies like smiling erasers on them …ick), I don't think I was even wearing a training bra at that point… even the thought of dating a freshman in highschool would have caused a riot. If the story is set in the US how would they interact? Even in accelerated classes there is no way a 7th and 9th grader would interact except maybe in an out of school theater/band/orchestra program. Im just worried that left unchanged it could get into slightly creepy range relatively quickly… My advice is keep everything the same and have it maybe between a 15 year old and a 17 year old if you want to keep it young and in the same age difference, But if your characters are younger than 18/19 the Romeo and Juliet Law might come into play, not saying that it would develop into this - but as a reader this was my immediate concern (if you don't know what those are, I would google it). If you're just going to write hand holding, obviously this doesn't really apply.

I agree with @LYNNNN about the 15 year old not being interested in the 12 or 13 year old. And also, I can't really tell you what I honestly think about the relationship because you haven't really said how they act towards each other and basically how they got into the relationship.

@AJMaskell

@LYNNNN @LittleBear @Celestial-B Thanks for the feedback guys.I know that they are a bit young, but I had a dream about these characters and that's just how old they were. Also it's set in a medieval type world, but I could try ageing them and seeing how it goes

@slightlyinsanewriter

I agree with @LYNNNN and @Celestial-B because it is extremely difficult to write a good romance when one of the characters look 12-13 ish, and you have to acknowledge that at that age, despite how old they actually are, they won't have much experience with relationships. I remember when I was 12-13, the longest romance lasted about a month and was full of cheesy, cringe-worthy stuff. I would recommend, like @LYNNNN said, to age them up. You could set Maliah to be 14-ish and San to be 16-17, so there is time to develop a relationship before the Romeo and Juliet law comes into play.
