Hi, me here. I'm writing a story and my protagonist needs help. She's a spitfire and has know how to defend and keep herself alive in battle. She also has no filter, diplomacy is a problem. Same with bullies and arrogant authorities. She knows a little bit about a lot of things, although her specialty is healing and the study of magical warfare and history. But, she lacks good emotional skills and is s t r u g g l i n g. How do i help her progress and still keep her her? She also is portrayed as a villain in society's eyes, and she has to deal with basically keeping all her friends alive. How do I proceed with character development while maintaining her alive status? She will honestly get herself killed before 20 if she were real.
She's 12-19 in the series and has to deal with struggles at school, and the expectations her parents set for her. (Her mom was a big leader in a revolution 5 years before she was born). Her siblings are a cause of stress too.
Ok, she has some filter when she's dealing with parents and teachers and when she needs something. Very blunt and honest though.
Hello! What I'm getting from what you posted is that she is kinda moody, but not in a bad way. Also, as she has no filter, maybe if you have her progress by letting her learn to keep her mouth shut sometimes. It seems like she should maybe have a support/side character, even a fellow main character help her start to feel like she doesn't have to do it all by herself, cause something else I'm getting from her is she feels responsible for everyone and has a hard time letting go. Another way for development is to have something traumatic happen, a friend dying (example: Katniss after Prim), she is in a terrible accident (Doctor Strange), she has to make a hard call (Melinda May, AOS), something like that. Then give her someone to help her through that, and then have her not necessarily improve per se, but change and get stronger. I hope this helps!
