So I was hoping for a critique on the item I use in my story? It's a bit weird but I will flush it out a bit more later.

It's a neat concept, a special marker that has a unique match, showing your soulmate. But one hole I do see is the problem of where the marker came from. In many soulmate universes, you're born with the ability/mark that shows your soulmate. With an item based soulmate universe, you can't really be born with it. There are some universes that have unique items that could help you figure that out. In Harry Potter, each wand is made unique and bought at a special store. In Star Wars (I believe), Jedi create their own lightsaber with a unique crystal. These are some examples to help you with that problem.
One other thing: there's a tiny grammar issue in the item description. It says "A simple marker that everyone has one." Maybe: "A simple marker that everyone has." would be better. And maybe, try to expand that description a bit. Give more detail? If you can.
