(Sorry I haven't been on. I've been sick and with Christmas around the corner it's been a bit difficult. Just wanted to update you. I won't be on today. It's my grandpa's birthday and he passed away earlier this year. So I won't be on today.)
As soon as Abby heard a voice she stopped in her tracks. A person? Maybe they need help? Abby tried to let go of Riley's hand, but she only held it tighter. "Don't we can't trust him." Humans were just as bad as Zombies, maybe even worse. Riley just wanted to get to the farm house where the only thing she cared about was, her dog. She worried that she could be starving or worse. "We need to go. We don't have time for this. Before Riley could even take a step, she heard shouts in the background. Army. At this point she didn't care what Abby thought. With one tug she began to run. "If you want to live, I wouldn't go there!" That was all Riley was willing to give the guy. Whether he listened or not, well that wasn't her concern. The mud started to get more slippery as the entered the forest. This was not the way she was planning to go, but it was the best place to hide if the Army began to chase. There was also the zombie concern, they could be hiding here as well. And with the mud and rain, she would have to be more careful and aware.
Pollux's gaze hardened.
"What's going on?" he hissed, keeping his voice low in case anyone else was within earshot, "Did the quarantine zone get overtaken?"
He kept pace with the other two, but it was clear he was tired. He hadn't been able to rest after everything had happened. He was too focused on making it to his destination alive to stop.
Pollux asked, "Do you know where you're going?"
Addilyn continued on her journey to the quarantine zone, it was taking way longer then she thought it would. She was cutting across a parking lot when a car horn went off that made her jump. She looked around to see who was the cause of the car alarm. But she saw no one, she realized the sun was going down very fast. She thought to herself where can I stay the night, I don't even really know what is around her either. But then across the parking lot she saw a little shop that looked abandoned. She decided she would go check it out and see if it was safe because she was exhausted.
Michael had accidentally fallen asleep on the roof of the building, mostly he passed out from the pain med he had taken to try and get the pain to subside. He woke up sore from a nightmare, and saw it was getting dark. he swore under his breath as he tried to stand. His entire body was sore but his leg hurt so much. He steadied himself with the metal pole and made his way to the emergency exit to climb down to the ground floor. He had to move to a new spot, he couldn't get stuck up there all night, he needed to find some food. He opened the door and it creaked. He prayed he would be fine without getting attacked. He slowly began the climb down the stairs.
"Yeah… you could say that." Riley rolled her eyes. Not only did she have to take care of herself and her sister, now she has to answer some random person questions. As for where she was going, she had a slight idea. The forest was a shortcut, but she had only been through the forest during the day. "Listen, if you're going to follow you're going to help." She stopped and got on her knees, they would be easier to spot from the ground. "I came out here one day and marked a path with little white flags. Help me find them and I can answer you're questions later." Pulling something from her pocket, she knew this could be a bad idea, but it would be easier to find. With a click a bright light shone through the forest. "There you are." Riley whispered. In the distance a little white flag blew in the wind, reflecting the light off it. "We need to run." Before she was ready, Riley turned to the man behind her. "How strong are you?"
"I didn't intend to be dead weight," Pollux agreed softly, "But yeah, I'm fairly strong. Need me to do something?"
He shook his head.
"I would question more before throwing away my chance at making it to a quarantine zone, but you two seem pretty desperate to get out of there, so I think that can wait."
He kept on guard, half watching for anything hostile in the area, half looking for flags like the first.
"Are you strong enough to carry a three month pregnant women?" Riley, though she was young she was determined and didn't have the mindset to give up. A fifteen year old girl stood there with fire in her eyes. Abby was actually quite small for a pregnant girl, but that didn't mean she wasn't heavy. "Hey, I see a light!" It was hard to hear with the rain, but Riley definitely heard it. "No time." Damn it, damn it! With a swift movement Riley grabbed her sisters hand and began to run. But as she did she kept talking to the guy behind them. "Do you have a gun?" Please say you do.
(Uhhhh heyo, is this still open?)
"I most certainly could, but-"
Pollux almost froze, but he kept pace with the other two.
"Yeah, I've got a gun," he replied, trying to keep his voice down.
He pulled out the gun and made sure it was loaded, pointing it at the ground.
With a soft huff, he kept running along side the other two. He'd been traveling for a while without rest, a lot of running in there. A lot more physical exertion than he'd intended.
Michael made it out of the building, a bit surprised. He was purely exhausted, and his head was swimming. His leg had bled through the cloth but he didn't have any meds on him or any sterilized bandages, he was pretty sure it was infected by now. thank god it's just from rust, he though we just need to find a better place and then we'll worry about the blood loss later. He looked around the street and remembered that he saw a small store from when running through the junk yard. He wondered how far away the other people were and if he could catch up to them. he was lonely and knew he needed help. He gave a sad laugh and knew it was pointless, so he started to back track to find the store and hopefully it'd have something to make his head stop pounding and he'd be able to eat something.
Run, just keep running. The words on Riley's late mother came to her. All her emotions were numb at this moment, her survival instincts were at its full. Narrow vision, steady breathing, one foot in front of the other. "Riley I need a break." Abby tried her best, but could barely even get those words out, but no matter what she said, Riley kept going. it's not much further. The lights chasing after them seemed to get further and further away. They were losing them. Finally she slowed down to a walk. Abby clenched her chest, quickly letting go of Riley's hand. Turning Riley sees her sister leaned against a tree throwing up, it was definitely a sight. "We only have a little bit more to go, but it seems we all could use a break. From her side Riley pulls out a hand gun and checks it, just in case. "So," she moved over to a rock to sit down and continued "What's your name?" This time she properly looked the guy in front of her in the eye.
"Pollux," he replied softly, keeping an eye on Abby.
He was panting a bit himself, but seemed unfazed emotionally. Pollux leaned back against a tree, trying to keep his posture straight as possible as he tried to get his breathing steady again.
"How about you two?"
He cast a gaze warily over his shoulder. While he was pretty sure they were far enough away from their pursuers to be safe for now, he wasn't completely certain.
Riley's gun was secure in her hand, elbows on her knees, if she didn't look so young anyone would've thought she was older than fifteen. "I'm Riley." She didn't bother introducing Abby, she would do that herself when she was done. Abby never liked when Riley spoke for her. "Why were you trying to get to the quarantine area?" Most people were leaving areas like that and trying to fend for themselves, because now they were realizing just how bad it was in those places. Rain dripped down Riley's face, cleaning the dirt and sweat. Though she still didn't feel clean, she could never feel clean. Looking Pollux up and down, Riley thought he didn't look much like a guy to survive out in a place like this, but from the blood on him he definitely knows how to kill. Ignoring her other question, she asked a different one, "How many have you killed?" She nodded her head towards his gun.
"My mother and I were alone," Pollux replied, "And we had been since this all started, pretty much. We thought it'd be safer in a place like this. Hadn't actually stumbled on one before."
He shrugged a bit.
"I lost count a long time ago, honestly. It's easier that way."
He pulled his jacket off and over his head, using it to shield himself from the rain a bit more. It was only now that he revealed the bulk of his tattoos, which ran up the length of his heavily muscled arms.
"You'd think… you'd think someone who described themself as 'group medic' would be a lot gentler, but here we are."
"One-thousand six-hundred and thirty-two. That is how many zombies and humans I've killed." Riley didn't exactly understand why she kept count, but it was something she has drilled into her mind. Looking him over once more she was wrong in her assumptions earlier, that jacket was hiding him pretty well. "So, you're a medic?" He could be useful. Though his body looked like that, he seemed like a softie, someone who would find it hard to kill a loved one if it came down to it. Abby was now just sitting against the tree with her eyes closed, trying to relax a bit.
"Mhm," Pollux confirmed, "I was actually applying to med school when shit hit the fan. I'm not a whole doctor or anything, but I do know a lot in the way of first aid. I've always done a lot of reading and research at bare minimum. And I've got some practical knowledge as well. It's come in handy a lot out here, turns out."
He was still trying to catch his breath. Though he mostly felt alright, he couldn't help notice the other two already seemed to be at rest.
"What's your story?"
"Mine, or hers?" When Abby heard those words she just chuckled. Neither of them truly saw each other as the others sister. Telling their story here would be a bad idea, since it was quite long. Riley hummed and a smile broke out on her face, but it was a bit sinister. Crossing one leg over the other, Riley sat up straight and spun the gun in her hand, "Would you like to share what's so funny, Abby." At this moment Riley looked like a villain you would see in a movie. Abby looked innocent, but Riley knew better. "No, it's not important." Pushing herself up, Abby walked towards Riley and stood over her. Both sisters glared at one another. Anyone would be able to sense the tension in the air. After a few seconds Abby broke eye contact and looked over to Pollux, "Don't worry about her." Abby smiled, while Riley just looked at the ground. Her wet hair cover her face. She was filled with so much anger that she was shaking, which could be mistaken as her crying.
Pollux scoffed, running a hand behind his neck.
"Didn't mean to start anything. I just wanted to know a little bit about you two was all. I don't need a whole life story necessarily. Just wanted to know who I'm teamed up with for now."
He shrugged a bit.
"I'm an open book, though. You can ask me just about anything."
"You're right." Riley stood and stepped next to Abby. Riley was about a foot taller, she was tall for her age. "It's rude of us. We're daughters of commander Adam's. Sadly he had passed away some time ago. He taught me everything I know. We're on our way to Washington. I heard there was a safe place there run by the people, not the government." Abby was unhappy that Riley stood in front of her and talked over her, ignoring her. Riley smiled and held her hand out, "Would you like to join us?"
"I don't have anywhere else to go," he admitted, "No one left to protect or search for. Besides, there's safety in numbers. I'll come with you. You won't regret taking me along, either."
Pollux tilted his head back and closed his eyes. Finally stopping to rest, he realized how sore and exhausted he was.
"I don't think I've slept since-" he stopped for a second to think, "Hm… not last night, but the night before that. It's starting to catch up with me. How far out are we? I'd rather us get to shelter before we turn in for the night, if it's possible."
